Chapter 42: Elected

~7 min read 1,203 words

Besides Li Luo, not many students in the class took the stage to run for class monitor.

After Hua Xiuxiu and Shao Heqi stepped up, only one female classmate, Shi Yanran, went on stage.

Shao Heqi had served as vice monitor for three years, while Shi Yanran had participated in numerous local volunteer activities, giving both of them some qualifications for the role.

Aside from that, a few boys who were more active in sports took the stage to run for sports committee member.

As for the female sports committee member position, no one at all stepped up to run.

Seeing few others left, Li Luo finally rose from his seat again and walked toward the podium.

"Hello everyone, nice to see you again—I'm Li Luo."

Walking onto the podium, Li Luo greeted the class, then smiled, "Just now, Hua Xiuxiu said something I thought was very right."

"She said a class monitor must first have the corresponding ability, before anything else."

"Whether it's Hua Xiuxiu, or earlier Shao Heqi, or Shi Yanran, all of them used their past experiences to bolster their candidacy."

"Earlier, Teacher Kong said the class monitor's job is to serve the classmates."

"I feel I personally have a certain talent in this area."

Saying this, Li Luo suddenly stepped down from the podium, stood by the aisle near Kong Junxiang, and halted beside Hua Xiuxiu's desk.

Then he continued: "Hua Xiuxiu's hobby is reading; her favorite book is Jane Eyre."

Speaking, he took one step forward, arriving beside Lin Yuan.

"Lin Yuan's hobby is basketball; he gets nervous when speaking on stage."

"Zhou Juanling likes watching movies, especially art films; she's quiet by nature."

"Lu Jiahao is skilled in photography, loves small animals, and is very caring."

"Wang Xinyu makes handicrafts, excels at cross-stitch, and speaks lively and openly."

After listing the entire row of classmates' details, Li Luo returned to the podium, cleared his throat with two coughs: "I personally believe that to serve well, one must first understand the specific circumstances of those being served."

"As class monitor, the most basic requirement is to at least know every classmate's name, personality, and hobbies, so you can offer targeted help when needed."

Here,

Shao Heqi in the audience couldn't hold back.

"Didn't you specifically memorize the self-introductions of that entire row?"

Li Luo, interrupted, didn't mind at all.

Beside him, Kong Junxiang wore an amused expression, legs crossed, enjoying the show—he hadn't expected this student to be so interesting.

Some classmates in the audience, fond of stirring things up, hearing Shao Heqi's challenge, also couldn't help asking: "Yeah, you say you remember everyone's names—what about me?"

"You're Zhu Yufei; you just got up to run for sports committee member," Li Luo smiled. "You said you like basketball and can dunk."

"What about me? What about me?" another boy beside Zhu Yufei raised his hand, joining in the teasing.

"Zhang Guohuang, likes gaming, claims he's great at Yasuo."

"Holy shit, you actually remember that?"

Zhang Guohuang exclaimed in surprise.

The classmates below stared fixedly at Li Luo's performance, clearly stunned by his display.

In the back row, Yan Zhusheng wore a look of curiosity and doubt, glancing at Li Luo's desk to confirm he hadn't written these details down in advance.

"In short, I hope you'll all vote for me—thank you."

Li Luo finished his speech and returned to his seat.

Seeing no one else would take the stage, Kong Junxiang rose and walked to the podium, picked up chalk, and circled the names of the four monitor candidates, then smiled: "Alright, let's begin voting."

"There's no limit on votes—you may vote multiple times."

"If you believe someone is qualified for the position, raise your hand to vote."

"Now, let's first elect our class monitor."

Kong Junxiang acted without delay: after calling out the four names in sequence, he counted the raised hands and recorded the numbers beside each name.

Finally,

Li Luo was elected class monitor of Grade 1, Class 8 with 31 votes, unquestionably.

Hua Xiuxiu came second with 28 votes, elected vice monitor.

Shao Heqi ranked third with a total of 20 votes; when the results were announced, he turned and gave Li Luo a deeply resentful glance.

For some reason, ever since the high school entrance exam, nothing involving Li Luo had ever gone smoothly for him.

He'd thought that even if he couldn't beat Hua Xiuxiu, he'd at least keep the vice monitor position.

Now, he'd lost even that.

This made Shao Heqi feel terrible.

But Kong Junxiang gave him no time to dwell on it—he quickly elected the male sports committee member.

The winner was Zhu Yufei, the one who claimed he could dunk.

As for the female sports committee member…

"Since no girl volunteered, I'll temporarily appoint someone," Kong Junxiang said, glancing at the student list. "Yan Zhusheng?"

"Huh?" Hearing her name called, Yan Zhusheng, sitting beside Li Luo, blinked in confusion, looking up at the podium.

"I checked your profile," Kong Junxiang said. "You broke the school's girls' 100-meter record in middle school, right? I'll temporarily assign you this role?"

Hearing the teacher's words, Yan Zhusheng seemed unable to find a suitable excuse to refuse, and finally nodded: "Oh."

"OK, then today's morning task is done," Kong Junxiang picked up the sealed bag, tidied the podium, and said, "Your student cards double as cafeteria meal cards; they've already been preloaded with one hundred yuan."

"At 11:20, when the bell rings, you can go for lunch."

"The cafeteria is behind Building Two—go down the stairs and walk straight along the asphalt road and you'll see it."

"This afternoon, the school will arrange a physical examination, so after lunch, remember to return to the classroom for assembly."

After saying this, Kong Junxiang picked up the sealed bag and walked toward the door, pausing to smile at them as he stepped out.

"I'll go ahead then, teacher—the staff cafeteria's already serving lunch. See you all this afternoon."

Watching Kong Junxiang's retreating back leave the classroom, Li Luo suddenly thought their homeroom teacher wasn't so bad.

He looked young, probably under thirty, with a relaxed way of speaking.

Being class monitor for a teacher like him shouldn't be a troublesome thing.

In the classroom, after the homeroom teacher left, everyone fell quiet for just a moment.

With lunchtime still far off and the teacher gone, many students began chatting.

Only Li Luo's side remained untouched, as no one dared approach him with Yan Zhusheng present.

At 11:20, the school bell rang, and students rose one by one, heading for the door to head to the cafeteria.

Li Luo stood up too, strolling slowly toward the staircase.

Just as he stepped out the back door, he saw a slender figure at the staircase, tiptoeing and waving at him through the crowd.

"Li Luo, over here!"

Ying Chanxi ran up to Li Luo, looked up at him, and said, "You haven't been to the cafeteria yet? I'll take you."

In an instant, Li Luo felt countless piercing gazes, like swords, stabbing at him.

Not just from Class Eight, but also from the boys in Class One descending the stairs.

All of them were staring at him.
