Chapter 672: My Girlfriend Called Me
After a brief chat with his roommate, Li Luo took out his notebook, sat down at the desk, and mentally outlined his speech in the Palace of Memory.
He also took a moment to pull out his phone and glance at the WeChat and QQ group messages.
In their seven-person study group's small chat, Qiao Xinyan had already been confirmed as Ying Chanxi's roommate.
Xu Yinghuan and Zhao Rongjun were admitted respectively to the Humanities and Social Sciences track and the Engineering Experimental Class.
Although Xu Yinghuan might not end up in the same major as Li Luo, she was now in the same broad category.
Too bad they weren't in the same class—she was in Humanities Class Four.
She was lucky, though; almost all her roommates were familiar faces.
The most familiar, of course, was Ren Zheng; besides her were Shi Yanran, who had moved to the liberal arts class after Gao Er's streaming, and Shen Shuhua from Class Sixteen.
Among students from Fu Yi High School who got into Qianjiang University, at least half were from liberal arts classes, and among them, girls made up the majority.
Liberal arts students applying to Qianjiang University generally chose only Humanities, Social Sciences, or Foreign Languages.
The probability of familiar faces ending up together was still quite high.
As for Zhao Rongjun's side, it was somewhat coincidental—he was assigned to the same dorm as Liu Shaowen.
Besides him, his classmates Zhu Yufei and Zhang Guohuang were in the dorm next door, and in the adjacent class were familiar faces like Lu Jiahao, Xie Shuchen, Liao Hailin, and Jian Zhenyuan.
Because of the internet boom these past years, many had chosen computer science, so they all ended up clustered together.
As for Yan Zhusheng's side, she had no familiar faces—none of her three roommates were known to her.
But the good news was, all her roommates knew her.
After all, she was the famous daughter of Yuan Wanqing; while others might not recognize Yan Zhusheng with certainty, anyone entering Qianjiang Music Academy as a music student could not possibly not know her.
According to Yan Zhusheng, two of her roommates had been extremely enthusiastic, even dragging her out to lunch at noon, making it impossible for her to leave.
And there was bad news on her end too.
—The music academy's campus had moved.
The only slightly positive part of this bad news was that the move wasn't far—it was just across the Yin River, and after crossing the river bridge in the middle, lay Qianjiang University's new campus there.
The move primarily shifted the music academy and graduate and doctoral student facilities there.
Starting this year, the Ningshan campus of Qianjiang University would focus solely on undergraduate instruction.
All graduate, doctoral, and other research-related programs, along with the music academy's teaching, had been relocated to the Yin River campus across the river.
So today, after Yuan Wanqing took Yan Zhusheng to report in at the north gate, she took the campus shuttle to the Yin River campus, including the music academy's dormitory area, which was also on the other side.
It wasn't that far, really—just crossing one river bridge; the Yin River itself wasn't wide, and driving from the Ningshan campus took only about seven or eight minutes.
But Yan Zhusheng was still a little unhappy.
【Yan Zhusheng】: I miss you.
Just as Li Luo was about to start writing his speech, he received a WeChat message from Yan Zhusheng.
【Li Luo】: I miss you too.
【Yan Zhusheng】: How much?
【Li Luo】: More than you miss me.
【Yan Zhusheng】: Liar, you still miss Ying Chanxi and the senior sister—I only miss you.
【Li Luo】: You don't believe me? That hurts.
【Yan Zhusheng】: Then prove it.
【Li Luo】: How?
【Yan Zhusheng】: I don't know.
Li Luo checked the time, closed his notebook, and stood up to leave.
"Where are you going, Li Luo?" Cheng Xin asked curiously as he saw him heading for the door.
"Going to find my girlfriend," Li Luo said with a smile, waving and stepping out of the dorm room.
Cheng Xin's eyes filled with envy at the words—he imagined Li Luo walking hand-in-hand with such a beautiful senior, and just thinking about it made him happy.
He could never have guessed that the girlfriend Li Luo mentioned wasn't the one he imagined.
But Li Luo couldn't explain further—he hurried downstairs, walked toward Bihai Lanting, and called Yan Zhusheng.
"Hello?" Yan Zhusheng's voice came from the other end.
"What are you doing?" Li Luo asked.
"Thinking about you," Yan Zhusheng muttered.
"You sound like you're not in a good mood," Li Luo said with a smile.
"I should've never taken the music track," Yan Zhusheng whispered. "I should've worked harder and taken the regular major like Yinghuan, so I could've been with you."
"That's riskier, though—this way isn't bad either?" Li Luo said, stepping quickly out the front gate of Qingxi Dormitory and jogging along Ningshan Avenue.
"But you're so far away," Yan Zhusheng whispered. "I thought we'd definitely be on the same campus."
"That's a new change this year—we didn't expect it before," Li Luo comforted her, then changed the subject: "How's your dorm?"
"Fine."
"What does 'fine' mean?" Li Luo chuckled. "Private bathroom?"
"Yes."
"Balcony too?"
"Yes."
"Air conditioning?"
"Yes."
"Washing machine?"
"Yes."
"No way! There's a washing machine too?" Li Luo was stunned. "Is it on the floor level, or in the dorm room?"
"You can buy one with money," Yan Zhusheng admitted honestly. "I talked it over with my roommate, and we chipped in together to get one."
"Oh, that's pretty nice then."
"I'll send you a few photos," Yan Zhusheng added, then there was a rustling sound as she rolled over. Not long after, Li Luo received several pictures.
The photos showed Yan Zhusheng's dorm room—truth be told, the interior was far better than their Qingxi Dormitory, clearly modern to the core, freshly renovated not long ago.
In comparison, their Qingxi Dormitory looked rather old.
In fact, Yan Zhusheng's dorm seemed even nicer than Zhu Lu Xuan in Zhu Academy, though the room was smaller than Ying Chanxi's.
"So you're in your dorm right now," Li Luo said. "Where are your roommates? I only see one person in the photo."
"Yeah, right now it's just me and her in the room," Yan Zhusheng nodded. "The other two went out."
"Who are you talking to?" came the voice of her roommate.
"Oh, I'm on the phone with my boyfriend," Yan Zhusheng said, lying on her bed with her feet propped up, calling down to her roommate below.
"What?!" The roommate's voice was clearly shocked. "You have a boyfriend? Who? Who is it?! Could it be Chongran?"
"Yeah, it's him," Yan Zhusheng immediately nodded, showing no hint of concealment—she even turned on speakerphone and said to Li Luo, "My roommate knows you too."
"Ahem… hello," Li Luo greeted her roommate. "I'm Li Luo. Zhusheng tends to speak bluntly—please bear with her."
"So Chongran's real name is Li Luo?" the roommate asked curiously, then immediately called out loudly, "Hi hi! I'm Cheng Jinyan! Zhusheng's great—we all love her!"
"Thank you," Li Luo said, then added deliberately, "Also, please keep my relationship with Zhusheng private. You understand—her status is special, and we'd prefer to keep things low-key."
"Oh oh, I get it, I get it!" Cheng Jinyan instantly understood, nodding vigorously like a pounding pestle. "I won't say a word! Just look at my name!"
Yan Zhusheng didn't react at all—so long as close people knew, that was enough. She had no habit of boasting to strangers.
After Li Luo and Cheng Jinyan finished greeting each other, she turned off speakerphone and continued chatting with Li Luo.
Cheng Jinyan, being tactful, returned to her desk but couldn't help straining her ears, quietly eavesdropping on Yan Zhusheng's conversation, her mind brimming with curiosity about Yan Zhusheng and Chongran's romantic interactions.
Before school started, she already knew Yan Zhusheng would attend Qianjiang Music Academy—Yuan Wanqing had posted about it on Weibo.
But before registration, she never imagined she'd be so lucky as to be assigned to the same dorm as Yan Zhusheng.
And on the very first day, she got such a juicy scoop!
Online, rumors had long circulated that Chongran and Yan Zhusheng were a couple—fans were obsessed with shipping them.
But others countered: for example, at Chongran's book signing, his childhood friend appeared—a girl equally beautiful and talented, and even the top scorer in Qianjiang Province's college entrance exam.
Additionally, some online novel readers insisted Chongran and Zao Shui Hui Zhang Gao were involved.
Because Chongran rarely promoted other authors' books, yet he always promoted Zao Shui Hui Zhang Gao's novel every so often.
Readers certainly wouldn't believe there was no shady deal behind it.
At this moment, having learned the truth, Cheng Jinyan was ecstatic—she longed to shout this gossip online.
Unfortunately, she'd just promised to keep it secret, so she could only quietly thrill inside.
Then she sat there listening to Yan Zhusheng chat with Chongran, imagining what Chongran might be replying to each thing Yan Zhusheng said.
"Boring." — Yeah, Chongran was asking if she was bored.
"One went to meet her boyfriend, the other went home—she's local, her house is close." — Probably asking why she didn't go out with the other two roommates.
"I'm lying on my bed." — Asking what she was doing right now.
"Don't know." — Hard to guess… probably asking what she wanted to do?
"Of course I do—but didn't you say you're writing a speech?" — Definitely asking if she misses him! Oh my goodness! Oh wow!
Cheng Jinyan strained her ears like a detective, listening for over twenty minutes, her mind already swimming with hearts.
Then, just as Cheng Jinyan was enjoying it, Yan Zhusheng suddenly rolled over and sat up sharply.
Cheng Jinyan jumped at the noise, turned to see Yan Zhusheng scrambling off the bed, barefoot in white socks, sprinting to the balcony.
Cheng Jinyan followed curiously to the balcony, stood beside Yan Zhusheng, and glanced down—there, quietly parked at the dorm entrance, was a black Audi A6.
The next second, a very young man opened the driver's door and stepped out, leaning against the frame, smiling up at them.
No way!
Cheng Jinyan stared at this scene straight out of a drama, mouth slightly open, looking from Li Luo stepping out of the car to Yan Zhusheng beside her.
But when she turned her head again, she realized Yan Zhusheng was gone—she looked back and saw Yan Zhusheng had already dashed out of the bedroom, shoes on.
When she looked down again, not long after, she saw Yan Zhusheng sprinting out the dorm door and flinging herself into Li Luo's arms.
Li Luo held her and spun her around twice, then gently opened the passenger door, leaned in, presumably fastening her seatbelt.
Cheng Jinyan watched this scene, suddenly envious, and couldn't help sigh softly: "Ah… this is just too dreamy."
…
"Where are we going?" Yan Zhusheng sat obediently in the passenger seat, turning to ask Li Luo.
"I don't know—let's just drive along the river," Li Luo said, starting the car and pulling away from Zhenjiang Dormitory at the music academy.
He drove along the riverside road beside Yinjiang River, taking Yan Zhusheng for a spin for over half an hour before circling back.
On the way, Li Luo asked: "Are you having dinner with your roommate tonight?"
"No, I won't eat with them," Yan Zhusheng shook her head. "The other two won't be back for dinner."
"Then you won't join the remaining roommate?" Li Luo chuckled. "Otherwise, she'll be so lonely."
"Hmm…" Yan Zhusheng thought it over, deciding leaving her roommate alone in the dorm wasn't right, and reluctantly nodded. "I'll go back and eat dinner with her."
Li Luo was slightly surprised she was so obedient.
So he thought for a moment, turned the car around, and drove straight back toward Zhenjiang Dormitory: "Forget it—I'll accompany you to dinner. Call her out—I'll treat."
"Oh, great!" Yan Zhusheng's eyes lit up instantly.
Li Luo added: "After dinner, come back with me—I'll pick up Chanxi, we'll go home to get our luggage, then I'll drop you off again."
"Okay!" Yan Zhusheng beamed, immediately pulling out her phone to send a message to Cheng Jinyan.
Upon learning that Li Luo was treating everyone to dinner, Cheng Xin immediately agreed happily, saying he would head downstairs and wait by the gate of the residential complex.
When Li Luo arrived at the gate by car and picked up Cheng Xin, he sent a message to his roommate, letting him know he wouldn't be back for dinner.
Cheng Xin replied that he had received the message, but felt a bit disappointed, since their dorm's last roommate had just arrived in the evening.
They had originally planned to go out together for dinner as a group of four.
【Li Luo】: Tomorrow at noon, I'm treating you all—let's go eat at the nearby Tianjie.
【Cheng Xin】: No problem. You should spend more time with your senior sister tonight; don't worry about us.
