Chapter 681: He
The class meeting for Humanities Class 1 ended smoothly at around 8:30 p. m.
Jian Chun asked students who wanted to run for class committee positions to stay behind and come to her office later; everyone else could disperse and return to their dorms to rest.
Li Luo had originally planned to head straight back to the dorm with his roommates, but Jian Chun called out to him.
"Li Luo, wait a moment."
His roommates assumed it was because of Li Luo's celebrity status that the counselor had detained him, so they didn't think much of it and, after Li Luo waved them off, the three of them left the classroom and returned to the dorm.
"Auntie, what else do you need?" Li Luo said, following Jian Chun out of the classroom with a look of resignation.
"Come with me to the office; I have something to discuss with you," Jian Chun said with a smile. "How about that? Surprised?"
"That's definitely a surprise," Li Luo couldn't help rolling his eyes, then turned to Xu Youyu, who had just caught up. "You too, Youyu—why keep it such a secret?"
"Auntie told me not to say anything, and I wanted to give you a surprise anyway, so here we are," Xu Youyu said cheerfully beside him.
"Stop calling me auntie," Jian Chun blushed slightly and whispered, "At school, you must call me Teacher."
"So outside of school, I'm supposed to call you auntie, right?" Li Luo raised an eyebrow.
Jian Chun said nothing, only quickened her pace—her silence was confirmation enough.
Li Luo followed behind, grinning, his mood surprisingly good.
Judging by this, was his uncle finally going to get married?
Jian Chun had just graduated with her master's this year and, upon Xu Rongsheng's recommendation, successfully secured a position as counselor for this year's freshman class in the College of Humanities, responsible for the daily affairs of four classes.
Although her monthly salary wasn't particularly high, it was at least a stable job—far better than what most other Humanities graduates could hope for.
Jian Chun's plan was to diligently perform her duties as counselor and, with Xu Rongsheng's help, strive to climb the administrative ladder at the university.
At the same time, she was preparing for the civil service exam; if she could pass, that would be ideal.
As a master's graduate from Xu Rongsheng's circle and the girlfriend of Li Luo's uncle, she had at least some minor connections.
As long as she worked hard, her path upward would be relatively smooth.
"So why did you call me to the office?" Li Luo followed Jian Chun into the counselor's office on the fourth floor, where over a dozen students waiting to run for class committee positions lingered outside.
"Well," Jian Chun smiled a little shyly, "you know, this is my first year as counselor—I'm still unfamiliar with many things."
"So since you're familiar with Humanities Class 1, I was wondering if you could help me by becoming class president?"
"You were class president for all three years of high school, right? You must have plenty of experience with this."
Li Luo heard this and sighed helplessly: "Auntie…"
"Call me Teacher."
"Teacher Jian… I still have to write novels regularly."
"Didn't you write novels in high school too? University coursework is lighter than high school, and your duties won't be that heavy."
"Mainly because it's annoying," Li Luo coughed. "You know—Chanxi, Zhusheng, and Youyu… yeah, I'm pretty busy."
Jian Chun: "…"
Saying this right to her face, Jian Chun truly didn't know what to say—she had a retort stuck in her throat, unsure whether to spit it out or not.
"But your uncle recommended I ask you for help," Jian Chun finally pulled out her trump card. "I just thought—you could help me shoulder some of the pressure?"
"Teacher Jian…"
"Just call me auntie."
"... Fine," Li Luo said, half-laughing, half-sighing, then nodded in surrender. "For the sake of this auntie, I'll take the position."
It was rare to see his uncle actually getting married—Li Luo didn't mind lending a little support.
"Thank you so much," Jian Chun beamed, pulling him down onto the sofa beside her. "You sit here, and I'll call them in one by one to discuss committee roles."
"Just listen carefully and see who stands out."
"Then pick whoever you like best to be on the committee—how's that sound?"
Li Luo nodded, though his expression was odd: "Why do I feel like I'm the counselor?"
Jian Chun rolled her eyes at him and said nothing more; she walked to the office door and called out to the waiting students: "Come in one at a time, in order."
…
Half an hour passed quickly.
The dozen or so students who had come to run for committee positions finished their interviews with Jian Chun and left one by one.
It had to be said—after entering university, girls seemed far more proactive than boys in these matters.
Although Humanities Class 1's gender ratio was already 3:7, of the eleven students who came to run for committee positions, all except one—the guy running for sports committee—were girls.
"What do you think?" Jian Chun showed Li Luo her notebook filled with notes. "I think Cao Yue is pretty good; Song Sijie speaks with clear logic; Wu Xuanyi has a great personality."
"Auntie, you're letting me fully decide the committee appointments, right?" Li Luo asked.
"Yes, you have ideas already?"
"Then here's how it'll be," Li Luo took the notebook from her hand and began circling names. "Liang Yuling as vice president, Song Sijie as Youth League secretary, Cao Yue as life committee member, Wu Xuanyi as organizational committee member, Chi Lingfeng as sports committee member…"
After listing his entire arrangement in one breath, Li Luo handed the notebook back to Jian Chun: "How's that?"
Jian Chun scanned the list; aside from the vice president pick, which surprised her, the rest matched her own thoughts almost exactly.
"Why did you pick Liang Yuling as vice president?" Jian Chun asked curiously. "You're not just choosing her because she's pretty, are you?"
"How pretty could she be compared to mine?"
"That's such a line to get punched for…" Jian Chun finally couldn't help but retort.
"Cough… anyway, that's how it is. If you think someone's unsuitable later, you can always swap them out."
"Alright, I'll go with your judgment," Jian Chun said, asking no further questions and accepting it.
"Auntie, can I go now?"
"Mm, go ahead. I'll leave a bit later."
Li Luo stood up, nodded, and stepped out of the office—only to see Xu Youyu and Lin Xiu sitting on the chairs along the hallway outside.
As the two were chatting, they saw Li Luo come out, and Lin Xiufeng smiled and asked, "Finished?"
"Just finished," Li Luo rolled his eyes at his uncle, "Thanks a lot for the surprise."
"Just tell me if it counts," Lin Xiufeng laughed heartily, clapping Li Luo on the shoulder. "I even fought to get you the position of class monitor—how good am I to you?" "Well, thank you so much…" Li Luo said helplessly, "Auntie's done too. Go keep her company. I'm leaving with Youyu."
"Alright, go ahead."
"When can we expect your wedding banquet?" Li Luo asked suddenly.
"Cough… cough…" Lin Xiufeng immediately looked embarrassed, but leaned close to Li Luo's ear and whispered, "Soon, soon—once her job stabilizes a bit."
Li Luo raised an eyebrow—it looked promising—and nodded with a smile, waving goodbye to his uncle before leaving the administrative building with Xu Youyu.
"How was it?" On the way back to the dorm, Xu Youyu bounced on her toes, hands behind her back, grinning at Li Luo. "Happy today?"
"Happy? Extremely happy," Li Luo gave her a dry laugh. "I thought you'd been so busy these past two days—even though I was right here in the dorm, you barely came to see me. Turns out you became a class assistant."
"Well, you weren't idle either," Xu Youyu huffed. "Who was it that told his roommate he was going to meet his girlfriend? Almost got me exposed."
"What?"
"When I got to the classroom, I asked your roommate where you were—he said you went to meet your girlfriend," Xu Youyu gave him an exasperated glare. "If I hadn't smoothly covered for you, your reputation as a jerk would've been ruined!"
"Cough… I didn't lie, though."
"How dare you say that?" Xu Youyu punched him. "Sneaking around behind your girlfriend's back—and having the real girlfriend cover for you? You're really something."
"How about I make it up to you?" Li Luo grabbed her fist, pulled her close, and kissed her.
"What are you doing~?" Xu Youyu pouted in his arms, tried to pull away, but he yanked her back.
They playfully wrestled and laughed, unaware that they had started holding hands again as they walked forward.
"So, did you go to Chanxi or Zhusheng this afternoon?"
"I spent the afternoon walking around campus with Chanxi," Li Luo admitted. "Then we went to Ningshan Park."
"Huh? You went to Ningshan Park too?" Xu Youyu raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Did you two do something naughty there?"
"Do you think everyone's like you?" Li Luo laughed. "Chanxi's much better behaved than you."
"Is that so?" Xu Youyu pulled Li Luo along Ningshan Avenue, then hurried into Qingxi Dormitory and immediately headed toward Ningshan Park. "Let me show you what a wild girlfriend can really do."
"Hey, it's already nine—still going?" Li Luo let her drag him past the entrances of Qingxi Building 2 and 3 without stopping.
"It's only nine—the dorms close at eleven. Still early," Xu Youyu grinned. "Scared? I won't eat you."
"I'm not scared you'll eat me."
"Then I won't hold back."
As Xu Youyu dragged him into Ningshan Park, Li Luo noticed couples scattered on benches here and there, and felt a little embarrassed. "Seriously? Should we still go?"
But Xu Youyu had already pulled him into a secluded little grove, pinned him against a tree trunk.
…
More than an hour later, they emerged from the grove and left Ningshan Park.
On the way back to the dorm, Xu Youyu rubbed her elbow, lifted her skirt to rub her thigh, then pulled up her shirt to rub her lower back, gritting her teeth: "Why are there so many mosquitoes? I should've brought some Hualu Water."
"Really?" Li Luo blinked, looked at his own arms, then asked curiously, "I didn't feel any mosquitoes at all."
"No mosquitoes bit you?" Xu Youyu widened her eyes, scanning him up and down, incredulous. "Why? Why do they bite me but not you?!"
"Maybe they think your blood tastes better?" Li Luo chuckled.
"Unfair!" Xu Youyu fumed. "Aren't only female mosquitoes the ones that bite? Why don't they bite you?!"
"I think it's fair," Li Luo grinned mischievously. "Mosquitoes bite you—you bite me. That's fair, right?"
"How can you say that?" Xu Youyu gave him a withering look. "Come on, let's go—I'm going to apply Hualu Water."
"Mm, goodnight."
"Goodnight~"
Watching Xu Youyu sprint back toward the entrance of Qingxi Building 3, Li Luo turned and walked into Building 2, quickly returning to Room 310.
No sooner had he stepped inside than he heard Wen Zexuan loudly reciting from his bed:
"The woman wore a sheer silk gown, elegant and refined like a lady of noble birth, yet also seductive and alluring in ways ordinary women could never be."
"Her shoulders were half-bared, her neck long, her corset covered by a thin layer of pink gauze, the valley between her breasts faintly visible."
"The moment he entered her chamber, his gaze trailed along the expensive silk carpet before him."
"Stop! Stop! Stop!" Li Luo broke out in goosebumps and shouted urgently.
But Wen Zexuan ignored him, stifling laughter as he continued reading aloud:
"The carpet was embroidered with lotus flowers and auspicious clouds. The woman glided forward, took his wrist, and led him to a small couch before the screen."
"On it lay a phoenix-tail qin. She lightly plucked a string with one hand, while the other guided his warm palm onto her thigh, hidden beneath her skirt."
"The thin gauze gradually slipped to the floor, revealing skin like congealed jade, faintly visible. Their eyes met, and she lowered her head slightly, lips curved in a shy smile."
"You bastard!" Li Luo turned beet red, scrambling onto their bed.
Seeing him flustered, Wen Zexuan finally stopped, laughing as he blocked him from climbing up. "You wrote all this yourself—what's wrong with me reading it?"
"If you want to read it, read it yourself—don't read it out loud in front of me!" Li Luo, relieved he'd stopped, snapped back.
"I'm reading it right now," Wen Zexuan grinned. "Honestly, anyone who got into our literature college has decent writing—this isn't crude, it's subtle, and it's got depth."
"Vulgar," Bai Haoran muttered from the side.
"Feels kinda interesting," Cheng Xin said from his bed. "I've only read a few chapters—I've never read an Online Novel before, but the story's pretty fresh."
Both were reading The Great Gan Night Patrol, since it was currently trending far more than I Am Really Not a Star, and when they searched Chongran, it appeared at the top.
Besides, just from the title alone, The Great Gan Night Patrol appealed more to their tastes.
"Alright, alright—no more reading aloud in the dorm," Li Luo warned. "I'm the class monitor now. Cross me, and I'll make your life hell."
"What?" Wen Zexuan leaned forward, astonished. "How'd you become class monitor?"
"No choice," Li Luo sighed, spreading his hands. "The counselor practically begged me to take the job. I'm just as annoyed as you are."
"Go ahead and brag." Wen Zexuan rolled his eyes at him, completely disbelieving the excuse. "But now that you're class monitor, when we're doing military training, can we cut corners if we play it right?"
"That depends on your attitude," Li Luo chuckled.
"Cough... Class Monitor my lord, I was wrong just now—allow me to apologize here~"
