Chapter 751: Youyu: I Need to Test Drive the New Car
"Why out of nowhere are you thinking about financial aid for underprivileged students?"
Xu Rongsheng was greatly surprised that Li Luo had brought this up; he immediately stopped walking, turned back, and sat down again at the dining table before the two of them.
Li Luo also pulled Xu Youyu down to sit, smiling, and said, "It was just a sudden idea I had during the summer vacation."
"Wasn't that when my novel 'Little Joys' was adapted into a TV drama?"
"Because my grades were so good, I originally invested about a few million into this program."
"According to Uncle Ying's estimate, the total revenue from 'Little Joys' could reach two or three hundred million; even after deductions, I'd still get at least several million."
"At the time, I was genuinely confused—didn't know what to do with all that money."
"To be honest, I'm not someone who enjoys luxury; I don't really get any pleasure from luxury cars or yachts."
"Later, Youyu told me again that one of her roommates was an underprivileged student who applied for school aid, worked part-time to earn living expenses, and even sent money home."
"So I thought: since I've already earned so much, if I set aside a portion of it, it wouldn't affect my own quality of life—but it could help many others."
"That feeling is far more satisfying than enjoying supercars or yachts."
"So… Uncle Xu, what do you think? Is there any room to make this happen?"
"This…" Xu Rongsheng, after hearing Li Luo's words, was somewhat moved.
He had always admired Li Luo—not just his talent, but also his character, which suited Xu Rongsheng's tastes perfectly.
But Xu Rongsheng never imagined that Li Luo, still just a freshman, already had thoughts reaching this level.
Wanting to give back to society because you've earned too much money?
If every wealthy person had this mindset… Xu Rongsheng gave a self-deprecating laugh and shook his head, choosing not to dwell further, then turned to Li Luo and asked, "Do you have any specific ideas about this?"
"For example, the scope of aid, funding scale, support model, and so on?"
"Also, I've never dealt with something like this before—I'll need to go back and check the university's records to understand the procedure."
"It's not urgent—I just brought it up casually, haven't studied it at all," Li Luo said. "That's why I wanted to ask Uncle Xu first—how best to set up such a fund if we really want to."
"As for funding scale, two or three million per year shouldn't be a problem."
"If possible, could we pilot it first in Uncle Xu's College of Literature? That way, there's room for error."
Li Luo's idea was actually quite simple.
Two or three million per year—his current stock portfolio generates roughly that much in annual returns.
Using money earned from stock trading to invest in underprivileged or top-performing students is essentially a form of indirect wealth transfer.
This money, taken from stock market novices like Xu Youyu and others, ends up benefiting the nation's future generation—making those novices contribute to national development, in their own way.
It's like accumulating virtue for them.
"Hmm…" Xu Rongsheng paused, then looked up at Li Luo sitting across from him. "I'll look into it for you and get back to you on the specifics later."
"Alright then, Uncle Xu, we'll be going," Li Luo said, standing up. "We have some things to do this afternoon."
"Go ahead," Xu Rongsheng waved dismissively, watching Li Luo leave with his daughter.
Watching Xu Youyu voluntarily link arms with Li Luo as they walked away, Xu Rongsheng fell into deep thought.
To be honest, even though he was much older than Li Luo, his own thoughts could never be as pure.
When he first heard Li Luo wanted to establish an underprivileged student fund, his immediate thought was: Is Chongran Culture looking for a tax deduction channel?
Li Luo's current income is already enormous—possibly tens of millions per year.
If he could legally reduce part of his tax burden through this, it would be ideal.
But Xu Rongsheng hadn't expected that Li Luo never mentioned tax deductions at all—he instead shared his personal reflections.
Given his relationship with Li Luo, Li Luo had no reason to hide anything; Xu Rongsheng knew Li Luo spoke frankly to him and wouldn't lie.
So in Xu Rongsheng's view, Li Luo genuinely just wanted to help others.
Such a heart is truly rare and precious.
In comparison, Xu Rongsheng felt a twinge of shame.
Because after wondering whether Li Luo needed tax relief, his second thought was: Could this benefit me?
You know, Xu Rongsheng is actually a very outstanding person.
He became a professor at thirty-two, was promoted to Level Three Professor at thirty-seven, and the next year was elected Vice Dean of the College of Literature.
He has now held the position of Vice Dean for four years.
If the opportunity arises, he naturally hopes to compete for the position of Dean during the next election in three years.
But the College of Literature has three Vice Deans total—he is only one of them.
One of the other two Vice Deans was appointed just last year and is quite young, posing little competition.
But the other Vice Dean was appointed a year earlier than him and is closely connected to the current Dean and two members of the University Party Committee Standing Committee.
It's said they're related by family.
Xu Rongsheng had nothing to say about that, because Cui Suling's father—his own father-in-law—also holds a position on the University Party Committee.
That was one of the reasons he was elected Vice Dean in the first place.
But on one hand, he graduated from Qianjiang University, while the other Vice Dean has a Tsinghua or Peking University background.
On the other hand, his own background can't compare, and with his father-in-law nearing retirement in the next two years, his support will vanish.
So over the past two years, Xu Rongsheng had gradually given up any hope of competing for the Dean position.
Even after discovering his daughter secretly writing Online Novels, he shifted his research focus to this narrow, niche field, no longer competing with the other Vice Dean for internal research resources.
But now, Li Luo's words had stirred Xu Rongsheng's thoughts once more.
Yet the thought vanished instantly, and Xu Rongsheng shook his head again.
Bringing in an underprivileged student fund from outside the university might be a monumental achievement for an ordinary professor—but for him, it would merely be icing on the cake.
It wouldn't help much in his bid for Dean.
Thinking this, Xu Rongsheng quieted his mind, rose slowly, and headed toward his office after watching Li Luo and Xu Youyu leave.
After returning, I'll look into how to best apply for Li Luo's poverty student subsidy.
I remember there's a specific Qianjiang University Education Foundation that handles such donations…
…
"So this car was bought for you by Li Luo?"
On the asphalt road outside the southern gate, Qiao Xinyan sat in the back seat of Ying Chanxi's new car, feeling the texture of the leather seats, and couldn't help asking, "How much did it cost?"
"Over a million," Ying Chanxi said softly from the driver's seat, turning her head back toward Qiao Xinyan.
"One… over a million?!" Even Qiao Xinyan, usually reserved in expression, couldn't help exclaiming aloud, her head spinning. Over a million!
How many years would her parents have to work to save up such an amount?
Qiao Xinyan didn't know.
But she knew exactly what such a sum meant to an ordinary person.
Yet when it came to Li Luo, it seemed to mean nothing at all.
"It's not just me," Ying Chanxi whispered. "Zhu Sheng and the senior sister each have one too—cars around a million each."
"I didn't want to buy anything this expensive—it felt like such a waste. A car costing ten or twenty thousand would've been fine for me."
"But Li Luo insisted on buying it for me. I had no choice."
Hearing this, Qiao Xinyan stared blankly: "You're showing off a bit too much, Xixi. Don't go too far."
"I'm just telling the truth," Ying Chanxi said, her lips unable to suppress a happy upward curve.
"Fine, fine," Qiao Xinyan waved her hand, quickly changing the subject to discuss the TikTok project they'd be meeting that afternoon.
Ying Chanxi said no more, chatting briefly.
The two waited another ten minutes in the car before Li Luo and Xu Youyu finally arrived together.
Li Luo opened the rear door for Xu Youyu, helped her in, then walked around to the front passenger side, opened the door, and sat down.
"Wait," Ying Chanxi saw Li Luo reaching for his seatbelt and leaned over quickly, clumsily stretching her arms to fasten it for him.
Li Luo: "... Is that necessary?"
"I just wanted to try," Ying Chanxi huffed. "Why were you two so slow? Didn't you text that you'd already finished lunch?"
"I had lunch with Uncle Xu. Afterward, we had a few more things to discuss, so it took a bit longer."
As Li Luo explained, he turned sideways, reached out, pinched Ying Chanxi's chin, and kissed her. "Don't be upset."
"I—I didn't say I was upset…" Ying Chanxi's face flushed bright red. She squirmed slightly, unconsciously glancing at the rearview mirror.
Fortunately, Qiao Xinyan and Xu Youyu sat on either side of the back seat, both looking out the windows, unaware of the affectionate moment up front.
But Xu Youyu had already rested her right hand on the door's armrest, propping her chin, smiling faintly as she watched it all.
She didn't mind—after all, once the car was picked up, Li Luo would be hers.
After being kissed by Li Luo, Ying Chanxi quickly started the car to hide her shyness, driving the brand-new Audi A8 toward the city's auto park.
On the way, Ying Chanxi wanted to find something to talk about to pass the time, so she asked Li Luo: "What did you talk about with Uncle Xu during lunch?"
"About funding the poverty student subsidy," Li Luo said. "I wanted to do something good, so I asked Uncle Xu how to go about it. He said he'd need to look into the procedures first."
"Poverty student subsidy? That's really nice," Ying Chanxi agreed. "I think there are two classmates in our class who applied for the school's subsidy."
In the back seat, Qiao Xinyan suddenly remembered something and reminded Li Luo: "I recall donations like this can qualify for corporate tax deductions—you can offset part of your tax burden."
"If you really plan to donate, ask Uncle Xu about the relevant regulations."
"The tax deduction for donations isn't small—it can save you a lot of money."
Hearing this, Li Luo shook his head: "That's not important. No need to pursue it specifically. Let's see what Uncle Xu says."
The money came from stock market gains anyway. Whether or not to deduct taxes didn't matter much to Li Luo.
"You'd need professional foundation certification for that, right?" Ying Chanxi recalled. She'd always been supplementing her knowledge in this area. "If you donate directly to the school, you probably can't claim the tax deduction."
They chatted all the way, and Ying Chanxi's driving skills gradually improved. Soon, she dropped Li Luo and Xu Youyu off at the auto park.
When getting out, Ying Chanxi felt a little reluctant.
Li Luo, meanwhile, unfastened his seatbelt, leaned over again, and kissed her.
"You'll have to work hard on the TikTok side," Li Luo smiled.
"It's not that hard—Xinyan's still there…" Ying Chanxi blushed, murmuring softly.
"What's wrong with a kiss?" Li Luo kissed her again, this time holding it for a long while before letting go. "I'm off now."
"Mmm…" Ying Chanxi was left limp from the kiss. She'd felt a tiny pang of jealousy earlier because Li Luo was going to accompany Xu Youyu to pick up the car—but now, that feeling was completely gone.
Her heart felt sweet instead.
After watching Li Luo get out and leave, Ying Chanxi happily drove off with Qiao Xinyan toward Huayue Film and Television.
In the back seat, Qiao Xinyan watched it all, her face wearing a slightly helpless expression.
On the other side, Xu Youyu had already linked arms with Li Luo, smiling brightly as they walked into the BMW 4S store.
The male salesperson named Xiao Xu immediately greeted them warmly: "Mr. Li, Miss Xu, your car has arrived and is parked in the garage."
"Alright, let's go see the car," Li Luo nodded.
"Of course!" Xiao Xu nodded eagerly, respectfully leading them toward the back garage.
The female salesperson watching them walk away felt envy, jealousy, and deep regret.
A million-yuan luxury car meant a commission of several thousand alone—not to mention bonuses and other rewards. Selling one car could net Xiao Xu at least ten to twenty thousand.
And that money should have been hers.
Li Luo and Xu Youyu paid no attention to the female salesperson's inner turmoil. Following Xiao Xu into the garage, they saw a pure white BMW 7 Series.
Hmm… not red this time. Xu Youyu chose white—it looked nice too.
Xu Youyu eagerly climbed into the car to test it out, while Xiao Xu dutifully gave a detailed explanation beside her.
After confirming everything was correct, Li Luo paid the full amount without hesitation. Xiao Xu, beaming, followed their car until he watched Xu Youyu drive off with Li Luo inside the auto park, then returned to the store slowly, in high spirits.
"Full payment? Not a loan?" The female salesperson asked around at the front desk, then sneered, "That would mean missing out on a huge rebate!"
Xu, passing by, heard this and paid it no mind.
He had already successfully added Xu Youyu and Li Luo on WeChat; given their ages, they might well upgrade their cars again in the future—better to think long-term than for someone to end up with nothing at all.
And on the other side.
Xu Youyu drove the car, taking Li Luo for a cruise on the highway, then parked beneath Bihai Lanting. Before Li Luo could get out, Xu flipped over and straddled him.
"What are you doing?" Li Luo gripped Xu Youyu's slender waist, looking at this familiar scene, and asked.
"I just bought a new car—I need to test the driving sensation," Xu Youyu said with a grin.
"Didn't you just test it?"
"That was the driving experience of operating the car—not the driving experience of being driven. Do you get it?"
