Chapter 756: The Boxing Family, Such Is the Family Tradition

~15 min read 2,864 words

After finishing the workout, it was already dinner time.

After taking a shower in his private bathroom, Ying Zhicheng didn't see Li Luo or Ying Chanxi near the boxing ring and assumed they had gone upstairs without waiting for him.

But a nearby attendant quietly reminded him: "Director Ying, the two guests with you are waiting for you in the general fitness area."

"Why did they go over there?" Ying Zhicheng wondered, then walked toward the general fitness area.

The boxing zone is a special area; regular gym members aren't allowed in unless they've enrolled in specific boxing training courses.

Li Luo could enter directly only because Ying Zhicheng held a platinum membership.

Now that he had stepped out of the boxing area, Ying Zhicheng immediately spotted Li Luo and Ying Chanxi.

Probably bored waiting for him to finish showering, Li Luo had pulled Ying Chanxi over to try out the fitness equipment.

Ying Chanxi was currently seated on a lat pulldown machine.

Li Luo stood behind her, giving instructions.

And it wasn't just verbal guidance—Li Luo spoke while reaching out to correct Ying Chanxi's posture.

The intimacy between the two struck Ying Zhicheng's eyes, instantly making the old father's face stiffen, his fists tingling again.

"Like this?"

"Yes, keep your spine straight, but don't use brute force." Li Luo guided Ying Chanxi's hands downward, then pressed his palm against her shoulder blades. "Feel the force in this area—contract these muscles and pull your shoulder blades in to get the full effect. Do you feel it?"

"Oh… it really does feel different." Under Li Luo's guidance, Ying Chanxi began training properly.

At this point, Ying Zhicheng had walked over, arms crossed, and cleared his throat softly: "Cough… I'm done showering. Let's go."

"Dad?" Ying Chanxi was startled by Ying Zhicheng's sudden voice, turned her head, saw him, and quickly stood up from the seat.

But her expression still carried a hint of lingering satisfaction—clearly, she had greatly enjoyed these intimate moments alone with Li Luo.

Ying Zhicheng watched it all, his heart souring, feeling his precious daughter had been completely won over by some outside guy.

Only those who've raised a daughter could truly understand this ache.

Recalling his earlier experience on the boxing ring, Ying Zhicheng—who had previously wondered if he'd hit too hard—now felt regret.

I should've thrown a few more punches.

It wasn't nearly enough!

So, as they left the gym and took the elevator upstairs, Ying Zhicheng said to Li Luo: "Your boxing skills are good. You should train with me more often."

Li Luo knew exactly what Ying Zhicheng was thinking—he was just itching to punch him again.

But with the help of the Memory Palace, Li Luo wasn't afraid of getting hit, so he grinned and nodded: "Sure thing. Training with Uncle Ying really helps."

He actually hoped Ying Zhicheng would punch him more—after all, holding emotions inside is bad for the body; better to let them out.

As Ying Zhicheng's future son-in-law, helping his future father-in-law release a little stress was only natural.

Ying Chanxi had watched their sparring earlier and thought her dad didn't seem to be able to beat Li Luo, so she didn't stop them from arranging another match; instead, she curiously asked: "Can girls train in boxing?"

"Probably," Li Luo said. "I remember boxing has a lot of health benefits. If you're interested, you should really give it a try."

"Then I'll sign up for a class next time," Ying Chanxi said, eager to try.

One could only say the family tradition was like this—no wonder they were father and daughter, both so fond of martial arts.

Back when they started school and had military training, Ying Chanxi had joined the military fist formation, but she'd been forced to quit after just a few days due to slipping in the shower.

Now that she heard there was another chance to learn martial arts, her enthusiasm immediately flared up again.

But practicing physical martial arts was fine—good for health—and as long as she didn't start fighting internet cyber-fist battles, it was all good.

Thinking this, Li Luo followed Ying Zhicheng back to Huayue Film and Television.

He called Yuan Wanqing and Yan Zhusheng, brought along Xiao Wen, and the group went to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

But when it came time to go home, Li Luo ran into trouble.

Because Yan Zhusheng had just gotten a new car, and Ying Chanxi had driven her own new car over.

Li Luo didn't have a cloning technique, so he could only choose one person's car.

But Yan Zhusheng didn't let him struggle—she pulled out her car keys and tossed them into Xiao Wen's arms, then pulled Li Luo toward Ying Chanxi's Audi: "Sister Xiao Wen, could you drive my car back?"

"Huh?" Xiao Wen stared at the keys in her hand. "But… I drove Qing-jie's car today too."

"Just leave Mom's car here—it's not like she uses it anyway," Yan Zhusheng said carelessly. "I'll be coming back tomorrow to record songs; you can come with me then and drive Mom's car back."

"O-Okay," Xiao Wen scratched her head, obeyed the order, and went to drive Yan Zhusheng's new car.

She wasn't unwilling—she just felt a bit disappointed.

She'd been hoping to see Li Luo and Yan Zhusheng showing off affection on the way home.

What a shame.

"Why don't you drive your own new car?" Ying Chanxi stared, dumbfounded, as Yan Zhusheng climbed into her car and pulled Li Luo into the back seat. "You just bought it and you're letting someone else drive it—what's the point?"

"I just feared that if Li Luo rode in my car, you'd get jealous, so I came over out of necessity," Yan Zhusheng said solemnly. "I was thinking of your feelings, yet you speak like this—it hurts."

With that, Yan Zhusheng wrapped her arms around Li Luo's, leaned against him, and blinked her innocent eyes at Ying Chanxi.

Ying Chanxi's face darkened. "Who said Li Luo would definitely ride in your car?"

"On the day you and Senior got your cars, Li Luo always rode with you," Yan Zhusheng replied logically. "Now that it's my turn to get a new car, shouldn't Li Luo ride with me? That's reasonable, right?"

"That…" Hearing Yan Zhusheng say that, Ying Chanxi suddenly couldn't find a counterargument and was left speechless.

At that moment, Li Luo coughed twice and said to Ying Chanxi: "Just drive. Let's get home early—I still have to write."

"Hmph, I'm not arguing with you," Ying Chanxi huffed at Yan Zhusheng, then started the car. Suddenly, she remembered Ying Zhicheng asking her earlier if anything was bothering her.

At the time, she couldn't recall anything—but now, after Yan Zhusheng's jab, it came to her instantly.

If she had to name something that upset her, there was indeed something to say.

But she couldn't tell her dad that Yan Zhusheng kept stealing Li Luo away and deliberately provoking her, could she?

Should she ask Ying Zhicheng to take her side?

They were all adults—she'd have to handle this small matter herself.

In fact, Ying Chanxi had recently felt she had won several times already, no longer as defenseless as before.

Once she put in a little more effort, she would be the one bullying Zhusheng, that annoying little sister.

Her heart brimmed with fantasies about the future.

With that, Ying Chanxi's driving felt much more pleasant.

But when she stopped at a red light and saw in the rearview mirror Yan Zhusheng deliberately sucking Li Luo's lips right in front of her, Ying Chanxi's face turned black.

"Can you two not mess around in my car? Kissing that long, aren't you embarrassed?"

"Sis is so stingy—I just kissed for you since you were driving and couldn't kiss yourself."

"Who asked you to help? Shut up right now!"

"Nope, mua~"

Watching this in the rearview mirror, Ying Chanxi clenched her teeth, her fists itching.

Next time, maybe I should just put Pikachu in the car—then I could punch him a couple times when I get the chance… Ying Chanxi thought to herself.

…

After a noisy ride back to Bihai Lanting, the sisters finally quieted down once they got out of the car.

Li Luo sent a message to Jian Chun and Lin Xiu, inviting them to lunch tomorrow noon.

The next morning, after jogging and having breakfast, Ying Chanxi and Yan Zhusheng headed again to Yuan Wanqing's studio.

One was assigned to handle TikTok coordination; the other went to record a new song, competing with her own mother for original release rights.

So by lunchtime, the only one left at home besides Li Luo was a lazy fish still sleeping.

"What are we eating for lunch?"

Xu Youyu, lying in bed, opened her eyes after a full sleep and asked Li Luo, who was typing furiously at the desk.

"I'm going out to lunch with my uncle and aunt—want to come?" "Hmm… I don't really feel like moving."

"Then no one will cook for you at home," Li Luo said, getting up and patting her firm butt through the blanket, "Come with me—getting some sun won't hurt."

"I can't get up~" Xu Youyu wriggled and groaned in bed.

Li Luo chuckled, lifted one corner of the blanket, and slid inside: "Still can't get up? Want to experience what it's really like to be unable to get up?"

"Ah! No~" Xu Youyu was thoroughly worn out by him; her stomach was still empty and she had no time for his antics, so she cried out in surrender, "I'm getting up! I'm getting up! Let go of me~"

After Li Luo pulled Xu Youyu out of bed, she finally got up and went into the bathroom to wash up.

She splashed water on her face, fully woke up, changed into something light and cool, then accompanied Li Luo out the door, getting into her new BMW.

They drove to the entrance of the West Gate milk tea shop, got out, and first wandered over to Lin Xiu's place.

"Oh, you're here," Lin Xiu greeted them with a smile as Li Luo and Xu Youyu walked in. "Where are Xixi and Zhusheng?"

"They're busy with something—only we two are free," Li Luo leaned against the counter and said to his uncle, "Where's my dear aunt?"

"Cough…" Lin Xiu still felt awkward having Li Luo call Jian Chun "aunt," so he cleared his throat before saying, "She's still at school, handling some matters—she'll be here soon. You two can sit down first."

"Oh, no rush—we can have some milk tea first," Li Luo said. "What would Youyu like?"

"A red bean milk tea," Xu Youyu said.

"Okay, and Li Luo?" Lin Xiu nodded and began preparing.

Li Luo shook his head: "I'll just have what she's having—I won't have room for lunch otherwise."

"Fair enough."

Watching Lin Xiu expertly make the milk tea, Li Luo, bored, asked casually: "By the way, I never got to ask—how did you manage to win over our counselor Jian Chun?"

"Why the sudden question?"

"Just curious."

"Nothing special… just normal interaction," Lin Xiu felt slightly uneasy talking about his romance to his nephew, but went on: "Back then, she was still in grad school and worked part-time here."

"Maybe I just took care of her a bit more than usual—before we knew it, we got together."

"Honestly, there's not much more to say."

"That's it?" Li Luo raised an eyebrow. "What about the details?"

Lin Xiu gave him a look and pointed outside: "Xijie is right outside—don't ask me."

Li Luo: "... pun games aren't funny at all."

"Don't pry into elders' affairs."

"Pfft, stingy."

They enjoyed their milk tea awhile, bantering with Lin Xiu.

Just before noon, Jian Chun hadn't arrived yet—but someone familiar did.

"You… Youyu?"

A petite figure walked in, and upon seeing Xu Youyu, she asked softly in surprise.

Xu Youyu, who had been fighting with Li Luo over the milk tea straw, turned at the sound of her name and, recognizing her roommate Xie Xiuying, was startled: "Xiuying? What are you doing here?"

"I—I'm here for a part-time job," Xie Xiuying whispered. "The boss said they needed extra help at lunch, so I came."

"Oh, it's you," Lin Xiu smiled and waved at Xie Xiuying, then looked at Li Luo and Xu Youyu. "You know each other?"

"Uncle, she's my roommate," Xu Youyu pulled Xie Xiuying into a hug. "Does she usually work part-time here?"

"No, not usually," Lin Xiu shook his head. "I usually run the shop myself—only when it's busy or I have to go out do I hire temporary help."

"I see," Xu Youyu nodded in understanding. "Then you better treat our Xiuying well—she's a great person."

"Mm, we've worked together a few times already," Lin Xiu chuckled. "I'll be counting on her for lunch today."

"No problem, leave it to me," Xie Xiuying said earnestly.

At that moment, Jian Chun arrived.

So Lin Xiu temporarily handed over the shop to Xie Xiuying, took Jian Chun with him, and joined Li Luo and Xu Youyu as they headed to the nearby Chuan-Yu Old Fire Hotpot.

At the dinner table.

After scanning the QR code to order the hot pot.

Li Luo brought up the parking spot issue, thanked Jian Chun, then gave Jian Chun the license plate numbers for Ying Chanxi and Xu Youyu.

"Why only two license plates?" Jian Chun asked in confusion. "Aren't there supposed to be three?"

"Oh, that's right," Li Luo explained. "Zhusheng's mother has connections with the Conservatory, so their car was registered directly—they don't need a spot here."

"Hey? Then why didn't you say so yesterday?" Jian Chun said helplessly. "I already made arrangements with them."

"It's fine," Li Luo shook his head. "Auntie, just add my license plate too."

"Is that really necessary? Your car's already under my name—otherwise you'd have to pay another thousand a month for a parking spot," Jian Chun frowned.

"I'm not short on a thousand for parking. Since it's already settled, there's no point changing it. Besides, your spot will be free now—you can register Uncle's car under it. That way, it'll be easier for him to pick you up and drop you off."

"You say that…" Jian Chun sighed, scratching her head.

Lin Xiufeng, beside her, didn't bother with politeness—he patted Jian Chun's shoulder. "It's fine. Do as Li Luo says. Why are you being so formal with him? We're family."

"Exactly, we're family," Li Luo chimed in with a smile, then smoothly changed the subject. "So when are you two going to let me taste some wedding candy?"

"Cough…" At this, Lin Xiufeng grew a little shy, but whispered, "I plan to take Xiao Su home for the New Year this year, then accompany her back to hers after the holiday—if everything goes well, maybe next year…"

Jian Chun, sitting beside Lin Xiufeng, lowered her head slightly, blushing, offering no rebuttal—she tacitly agreed.

After hearing Lin Xiufeng's words, Li Luo's face lit up with relief. "That's truly worth congratulating! Come on, let's drink!"

After three rounds of wine at lunch.

After the meal, the four prepared to leave.

Just then, Li Guohong wandered into the restaurant, saw his son, and called out to him: "Why are you here?"

"I took Uncle and Auntie out to eat," Li Luo pointed to Lin Xiufeng and Jian Chun, who had just walked away. "Dad, you got something? If not, I'm heading back with Youyu."

"Your mom hasn't had time to tell you yet," Li Guohong said. "Remember to come home tonight. Your uncle is coming over for dinner—he wants to talk to you about something."

"Got it," Li Luo replied, curious but not pressing—he'd find out tonight at dinner.

So by evening…

Xu Youyu, too lazy to move again and needing to write that night, stayed behind and didn't go home with Li Luo.

Yan Zhusheng was still recording at Yuan Wanqing's studio and hadn't returned.

Ying Chanxi, however, drove back to Bihai Lanting, heard Li Luo was going home, and drove with him again.

After returning to Jincheng Community and entering Building 401, Ying Chanxi slipped into her pink slippers and sighed, "Feels like it's been ages since I came back here—I actually miss it."

"True," Li Luo chuckled. "But the renovation's pretty outdated. Once the villa's ready, I plan to have Mom and Dad move there first, then renovate this place."

"Huh? You're going to renovate again?" Ying Chanxi looked reluctant. "That's such a shame."

"You've got to look forward," Li Luo said softly, wrapping his arm around her. "I originally wanted them to just live permanently at the villa."

"But Mom and Dad know too many people here—they're used to this neighborhood and don't want to move."

"So we'll just renovate and refresh it—then it'll be more comfortable to live in."

"True," Ying Chanxi nodded in agreement, though still reluctant. Then, an idea struck her, and she whispered, "Then… what if…"

"What if what?"

"It's rare we come back," Ying Chanxi tugged gently at Li Luo's sleeve. "What if we stayed here tonight?"
