Chapter 17: Wang Li Like a Dead Dog

I took the money without a word and went to buy the things. To Wang Li and his crew, I looked particularly cowardly and easy to bully. I cursed inwardly: "You guys enjoy yourselves for now, wait until tonight and I’ll show you!"

Finally, night arrived. Xu Hongzhi, Wang Hua, and I were already in position at the intersection. Sure enough, not long after, Wang Li passed by.

I signaled to Xu Hongzhi and Wang Hua with my eyes, and the three of us blocked Wang Li’s path.

Wang Li’s expression became unnatural. He looked at Wang Hua, his face turning ashen. He wanted to say something, but nothing came out.

"What are you looking at? I’m with Brother Yun now!" Wang Hua sneered at Wang Li.

Hearing Wang Hua’s words, Wang Li’s expression turned strange. He looked at Wang Hua and Xu Hongzhi and let out a scoff: "Heh, have you two lost your minds? Following a moron? What benefits is he giving you? I’ll give you double!"

"Do you think I’m a traitor like you? Don't give me that useless talk!" Wang Hua looked at Wang Li with disdain.

Seeing this, Wang Li smiled at me with contempt: "Why are you standing here in the middle of the night? Don't tell me you’re here to pay me back?"

It seemed Wang Li still hadn't realized his situation. I didn't say a word; I walked up and punched him, venting all the anger I’d been holding in these past few days.

Wang Li was knocked to the ground by my punch. He clutched his face and gritted his teeth, looking at the three of us. He realized the situation and lost his previous arrogance: "Yang Yun, you’re looking for death!"

"Screw your mother, who are you talking to!" Xu Hongzhi had a short temper; he walked up and kicked Wang Li.

"Yang Yun, don't take things too far. We’ll see each other around. If you don't kill me today, I’ll kill you and that stinking bitch tomorrow!" Wang Li cursed viciously. He felt humiliated being stepped on by someone like me and wanted to use threats to make me afraid, but I was no longer the person I used to be.

"Screw your mother, I think you’re the one looking for death. Beat him!" Xu Hongzhi didn't hesitate; he stepped on Wang Li’s arm. Wang Hua, although he knew Wang Li before, had to show his loyalty now and joined in the beating.

Wang Li wailed incessantly, looking like a dead dog. Seeing it was enough, I signaled them to stop.

I kicked Wang Li on the ground: "Make a sound if you’re not dead!"

Wang Li stared at me viciously: "What do you want!"

"Simple, give me my pay!" I said concisely.

"Fine, but I don't have cash on me right now!" Wang Li spat out, gasping for air.

"Stop playing dumb with me! If you don't have cash, can't you transfer it? Can't you use WeChat or Alipay? What era is this? Do you think I’m a fool?" Xu Hongzhi cursed viciously.

Seeing that Xu Hongzhi wasn't someone to be trifled with, Wang Li didn't dare to say more. He took out his phone and transferred the money to me. Two thousand arrived—exactly my usual pay.

After the transfer, Wang Li looked at Xu Hongzhi and me: "Can I go now?"

"What about my sister’s ten thousand?" I didn't intend to give up on the ten thousand Sister Shuang gave me. That was nearly ten thousand! Just thinking about it made my heart ache, so I decided to get it back now.

"Yang Yun, don't go too far!" Wang Li got angry hearing this. After all, it was a lot of money; no one would want to hand it over just like that.

"You think you’re something, don't you!" Xu Hongzhi kicked Wang Li again in anger.

Wang Li looked at me with a ferocious face. I ignored his gaze and said calmly: "You must cough up that ten thousand!"

"Impossible, I’ve already spent the money. It’s gone!" Wang Li gritted his teeth and said.

"Oh, spent it, huh? Fine. Counting the three thousand you borrowed from me earlier, you still owe seven thousand. I don't care how you do it, I want to see seven thousand right now, otherwise, hmph!" I threatened Wang Li.

"If you have the guts, kill me today. Otherwise, you’re all dead tomorrow, and Su Xueyan is dead too. I’ll make sure she dies a..." Wang Li stared at me viciously, his twisted face full of anger and malice.

I didn't say a word. I took a cigarette from my pocket, lit it, and stayed silent. Third Brother had been close to me since childhood, so he knew what I meant. Third Brother hit hard but knew his limits, so having him do this was perfect.

I turned away. Not long after, Wang Li’s blood-curdling screams rang out. By the time I finished my cigarette, Third Brother was done. I checked my phone, and sure enough, another seven thousand had arrived.

Wang Li lifted his head weakly and looked at me: "Can I go now?"

I nodded and let Wang Li leave without saying anything.

Wang Li struggled to climb up from the ground. He couldn't stand steadily and limped away, leaning against the wall.

Watching Wang Li’s retreating figure, Xu Hongzhi asked unwillingly: "Are we just letting him go like this? Aren't you afraid he’ll take revenge later?"

"What? If we don't let him go, do you want to kill him?" I retorted to Xu Hongzhi. I continued to them: "This guy definitely won't let us go later. He’ll surely find people to deal with us!"

"Then why did you let him go!" Xu Hongzhi became anxious hearing this.

"I let him go because I’ve already thought about what comes next. It looks like we need to meet this so-called Brother Tao!" I thought for a moment and said.

"You want to meet Zhang Longtao? Isn't that walking right into the lion's den? Zhang Longtao treats Wang Li pretty well!" Wang Hua frowned.

"I naturally know Zhang Longtao treats Wang Li well, but if Zhang Longtao knew Wang Li had betrayed him, do you think he’d still help him?" I smiled and said.

Wang Hua and Xu Hongzhi nodded, agreeing with my logic.

I checked the time; it was past ten at night. I said to them: "Let's go, come with me to see Zhang Longtao!"

Zhang Longtao was usually drinking at the bar at this hour. I took Wang Hua and Xu Hongzhi to the Night Bar. The bartender recognized me because I had been there with Wang Li to see Zhang Longtao a few times, and I had also come to see him alone.

"Sister, is Brother Tao in today?" I asked the alluring beauty politely.

"Little Yun, you haven't been here in a long time. Brother Tao is in today. Come down later and have a drink with me!" The beauty winked at me.

I nodded, said thank you, and took Xu Hongzhi and Wang Hua upstairs. However, we were stopped by two large men at the stairs.

"I have business with Brother Tao!" I looked at the two men and said.

"Brother Tao is busy tonight. He’s not seeing anyone!" one of the men said expressionlessly.

I frowned. Usually, Zhang Longtao didn't have any real business; it was just picking up girls or screwing around. Although I knew it wasn't good to disturb him now, I couldn't care less. If Wang Li got there first, everything we prepared tonight would be for nothing.

I signaled to Xu Hongzhi and Wang Hua beside me and suddenly said something that shocked the whole room: "Fight our way in!"
