Chapter 19: Zhang Longtao

~7 min read 1,234 words

I smiled and didn't answer his question. Just then, Wang Li arrived. But Wang Li looked miserable—his head was wrapped in bandages, and his arm was in a sling. He looked even worse than when we fought yesterday; it was mostly Zhang Longtao’s handiwork.

I was secretly laughing inside, feeling great. Wang Li had finally been brought to justice.

Wang Li looked at me with hatred and gloom. He said out of the blue: "Yang Yun, do you have a connection with Yellow Tiger?"

Wang Li wasn't stupid. Once he realized Zhang Longtao knew about his betrayal, he felt it had something to do with Yellow Tiger, but he had no direct evidence and didn't dare to go find Yellow Tiger directly.

"I don't understand what you’re talking about." I naturally played dumb. I couldn't tell him the truth; after all, who knew if this guy was carrying a recording device or trying to find a way to set me up.

"I’m sure it’s you. What did Yellow Tiger say to you that day?" Wang Li stared at me viciously.

"I think you’ve got a problem, saying such nonsensical things!" I naturally didn't show Wang Li any courtesy. Anyway, we had already burned our bridges, and I had already beaten him, so what was I afraid of?

"How the hell are you talking to Brother Li!" Sanmao grabbed my collar and shouted.

I gently pulled Sanmao’s hand away, smiled, and looked at him: "Sanmao, are you sure you still want to follow Wang Li? This guy has already betrayed Brother Tao. Brother Tao is considered good-tempered for not killing him. Do you want to betray Brother Tao too?"

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Sanmao looked at me with disbelief.

I sneered: "Don't believe me? Ask your Brother Li and Brother Tao yourself?"

"Screw your mother, Yang Yun, you set me up!" Wang Li couldn't take it anymore. His one good hand grabbed an ashtray from the side and was about to smash it at me.

I didn't hesitate; I kicked him, then picked up the ashtray and smashed it onto Wang Li’s head, blood instantly streaming down.

Wang Li looked like a stray dog, his head covered in blood. Combined with the injuries from yesterday and today, there was basically no part of him that wasn't hurt. This was his own doing.

Just then, Sanmao’s phone rang. Sanmao looked at the caller ID, his expression changed drastically, and he hurriedly answered the phone. After saying "uh-huh" a few times, his expression became extremely complex, and he stopped paying attention to Wang Li on the ground.

I wasn't surprised, but I didn't expect things to develop so quickly. It was clear Zhang Longtao’s actions were quite swift.

Er Gouzi, beside Sanmao, asked suspiciously: "Brother Sanmao, what’s wrong?"

"Nothing, don't worry about Wang Li anymore!" Sanmao sighed helplessly and then pulled Er Gouzi away.

Seeing the two of them leave without caring about him, Wang Li wasn't too surprised or resentful. Compared to that, he hated me more. Wang Li gritted his teeth, slowly climbed up, and suddenly burst into laughter.

I looked at Wang Li strangely: "What are you laughing at?"

"Yang Yun, don't think you’ve won. I’ve prepared a big gift for you. It just depends on whether you can handle it. I can already imagine how miserable you’ll be later!" Wang Li laughed crazily, looking as if he had lost his mind.

I frowned, looking at Wang Li, feeling a bit worried. After all, when people are crazy, the things they do are irrational. I wasn't afraid of what he would do to me; I was mainly afraid of what he would do to the people around me.

My expression changed, and I hurriedly walked out of the room. I found Su Xueyan in the KTV and asked with concern: "Are you okay?"

Su Xueyan looked at me strangely and retorted: "What could possibly happen to me?"

"As long as you’re okay!" I patted Su Xueyan’s shoulder and then reminded her: "Be careful these few days. I’ll accompany you to and from work!"

Hearing my words, Su Xueyan blushed: "Annoying!"

I didn't care about Su Xueyan’s shy reaction at the moment; I was more worried about her. With Wang Li’s personality, since he had said those words, it couldn't just be all thunder and no rain; there must be some substantial action. The key was that I didn't know what he would do next.

I didn't go to threaten or beat Wang Li to find out, because I knew those were meaningless actions; he wouldn't tell me.

Because I had tripped up Wang Li, Yellow Tiger naturally helped me settle the schooling issue, even including Third Brother Xu Hongzhi’s schooling. As for Wang Hua, he was much older than us and had long passed the age for school, so naturally, he was left out. Although these were all equivalent exchanges, I was still very grateful to Yellow Tiger for solving my education problem.

It just so happened that the school was the same one as Su Xueyan’s, which made it easier to protect her to and from school later to prevent any accidents.

On the day we went to school, Xu Hongzhi dressed very formally. He specifically borrowed money from me to buy a nice set of clothes. In his words, he was here to show off and pick up girls. As for me, I was still dressed simply as usual, very ordinary, because I felt it wasn't necessary. But every time, Third Brother would scold me, saying if he had my handsome face, he would dare to come to school in flip-flops and big shorts, which left me speechless. Honestly, I couldn't be considered a super handsome guy, but I wasn't ugly either. If I dressed up a little, I would indeed look better than some of the pretty boys now. But I was lazy and hated trouble, so dressing up had nothing to do with me.

We arrived at the school and went to the Dean’s office, only to find the principal wasn't there. The Dean of Students received us and was very polite. In his mind, students who could still get in through connections at this time must have extraordinary backgrounds.

Xu Hongzhi and I were assigned to Class 6 of the third year. Although it wasn't the same class as Su Xueyan, it was fortunately not too far away. The homeroom teacher was a young middle-aged man, about thirty-something. He frowned at Xu Hongzhi and me and said: "I know you might have some background, and coming to school might not necessarily be for studying, but I still hope you can study hard and not cause trouble!"

Xu Hongzhi and I both nodded. Seeing us so well-behaved, the homeroom teacher didn't say anything more and took us to the classroom.

However, when we entered the classroom, I actually saw an acquaintance—a great beauty named Zhang Yinuo. She was Zhang Longtao’s sister. I had seen her once before. This girl didn't feel like Zhang Longtao’s sister at all; they were two completely different personalities, two extremes. Zhang Longtao was insidious and ruthless, while Zhang Yinuo was gentle and kind. I didn't expect to see Zhang Yinuo here again, and what I didn't expect even more was that in the days to come, I would have a deep connection with her.
