…………
That’s the key point of this launch message. Now comes the reflection of a middle-aged man on his stormy past.
Old Buddha has been writing for twelve years, producing over twenty million words.
In May 2012, I released my first novel, *The Era of Big Movies*, when I was still a fresh college student; now I’m a father.
Influenced by Wali’s *Best Director*, I initially wrote only entertainment fiction.
In 2016, when writing *The Literary Moat*, I quit my job, but my income was still low—I wrote while walking, searching for new work.
Only with *The Literary Frenzy* in 2017 did I first earn a Premium rating, confirming I could make a living from writing.
Since then, except for one abandoned xianxia attempt, every novel—even my genre-shifted *My Concubines Are All Talents*—achieved Premium status, allowing me to firmly establish myself in society, build a family, and support myself through web novels. I’m grateful to readers and thankful for web literature.
Old Buddha believes his first career peak was *I’m Not Interested in Money* in 2019. Back then, there was no anti-piracy, and due to policy changes, my book was renamed and stripped of recommendations, launching bare without support—yet it still secured 4,400 first subscriptions, a hit for that era.
It was a victory of innovation, but I lacked ability and depth, failed to prepare adequately, and missed the chance—truly regrettable.
Since then, none of Old Buddha’s new novels have surpassed it. Only *I Want to Be Single Is Too Hard* had a chance thanks to its fresh concept; though short, it topped the New Book Chart—only to be sabotaged by others.
Later works like *My Concubines Are All Talents* and *The Director’s Joy You Don’t Understand* lacked originality and pacing, both launching with 2,000+ first subscriptions. The former was merely an ordinary Premium; the latter, thanks to anti-piracy and Old Buddha’s massive updates, raised its average subscription to 9,300—just a few hundred short of ten thousand. Honestly, today on Qidian, ten-thousand-average novels are common, and ten-thousand-average ones are everywhere. As a veteran writer with over a decade of experience, never having reached ten thousand average is embarrassing—I can’t even admit I’m a writer when I go out.
Rather than wait for *The Director* to slowly grind, I’ll rely on a new novel.
Before launching this one, Old Buddha did extensive pre-preparation for the first time. Though still imperfect, still with regrets, even after one full rewrite and major revision, I now have far greater confidence in how to write a good novel.
I’m a clumsy person; only after writing over twenty million words have I accumulated some insights.
Though the free chapters still have flaws—like the two girls’ entrances being too abrupt—I’ll have to fix them in the next book. I hope I can write for another twenty years!
Human energy is limited; after thirty, I’m not as strong; after forty, I’m even worse.
Old Buddha still has five years until forty. I hope to achieve something in these five years, so I can proudly tell others: I’m a web novel writer.
So let’s begin with *Turbulence 1979!*
Finally, Old Buddha humbly begs for first subscriptions and monthly votes—they are critically important for a new book’s future recommendations and for the author’s creative motivation.
Remember: ten chapters on launch day; for every additional 1,000 first subscriptions, add one more chapter that same day!
Middle-aged Old Buddha is going to burn brightly this time!
