Chapter 200: The White Moonlight Regrets It Too Late!
Tang Ye returned home and received a call from Xiao Hui.
Xiao Hui said softly, "Tang Ye, where are you? Can I see you?"
"What is it? Can't you say it over the phone?"
A burst of sobbing came from the other end, her voice choked with tears.
"Shao Jinbo was just taken away from home. Wuu, can you think of a way to help him?"
Tang Ye feigned surprise.
"Was he taken in for prostitution or gambling? If he really committed illegal or undisciplined acts, even if I wanted to help, I wouldn't be able to! Why don't you try begging his uncle? That would be much more effective than me."
"He is involved in a corruption case. His uncle is very angry and is drawing a line between them."
Tang Ye thought to himself, Secretary Shi understands politics.
The matter regarding Young Master Huang is too sensitive.
If he doesn't avoid suspicion at this moment, he might lose his official position.
Not long after Tang Ye hung up on Xiao Hui, a call from Du Xi broke the calm.
"Xiao Hui just ran to my house, crying her eyes out, insisting that I step in and beg my father to bail out Shao Jinbo."
Du Xi's voice was full of helplessness and distress.
Tang Ye understood in his heart that Xiao Hui was clutching at straws.
"Is Secretary Du at home?"
"My father went on a business trip out of town. Even if he were home, he couldn't possibly help with this." Du Xi covered the receiver, her voice lowered to a whisper, afraid of being heard by Xiao Hui who was nearby. "What should I do now?"
Tang Ye sighed and said, "I'm coming over right now."
Just over ten minutes later, Tang Ye arrived at Yunhu Courtyard.
Upon seeing Xiao Hui's tear-streaked face, Tang Ye thought to himself that it was time to let Xiao Hui see Shao Jinbo's true colors.
"Du Xi, I want to talk to Xiao Hui alone."
Du Xi first looked at Tang Ye in astonishment, then nodded in understanding. "Alright, call me if you need anything."
After Du Xi walked into the room, Xiao Hui hurried to Tang Ye and, with a "thump," actually went to kneel down.
Tang Ye was quick-witted and hurried to stop Xiao Hui, saying with a serious expression, "What are you doing? If you do this again, I'm turning around and leaving."
"Tang Ye, I know Shao Jinbo did a lot of things to wrong you in the past. But for the sake of us being classmates, please give him a hand, I beg you." Xiao Hui's voice was choked with tears, full of pleading.
Tang Ye sighed helplessly, took a document bag from his bag, and said slowly, "Actually, I didn't intend for you to see these. But, in the end, I couldn't bear it."
Xiao Hui eagerly opened the document bag, and photo after photo came into view.
In an instant, her eyes were filled with shock, and her face turned as pale as paper.
"You've been investigating Shao Jinbo in secret?" Her voice trembled slightly.
"These were just collected along the way. If I really wanted to deal with him, I would have sent these photos to the Discipline Inspection Commission long ago." Tang Ye paused and sighed again. "Of course, I hesitated for a long time about whether to tell you the truth."
Xiao Hui's eyes were red; she stared fixedly at the photos and asked through gritted teeth, "Who is the woman in the photos?"
Tang Ye told her the truth: "Her name is Shen Sichun, she is my junior from university. Shao Jinbo originally wanted to use her to lure me and ruin the relationship between Du Xi and me, but fortunately, I saw through his scheme."
Tears welled up in Xiao Hui's eyes, and her hands holding the photos trembled incessantly.
Xiao Hui had seen the intimate photos of Mo Xiaoyu and Tang Ye!
Unexpectedly, the situation had flipped; Shao Jinbo, the thief crying "stop thief," had actually been fooling around with other women.
Suddenly, she raised her head, looked straight at Tang Ye, and questioned, "Tang Ye, are you feeling particularly smug right now? Seeing that I chose the wrong person, you're very happy, right?"
"Huh?"
Tang Ye was stunned.
His brain short-circuited instantly; where did this even come from?
"Don't worry, the path I chose, even if I have to crawl, I will walk it to the end. And I will always be the woman you can never chase." Xiao Hui's tone was filled with stubbornness and resentment.
Tang Ye really didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and hurriedly explained, "I never even thought about chasing you; you're overthinking it."
Xiao Hui fiercely wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, grabbed her bag, and put on a brave front: "I will live very happily!"
Xiao Hui walked out of the Du Residence, her mind a blank.
Years later, when she saw Tang Ye at a class reunion, she discovered he had grown taller and more handsome, and had even become a hero.
She tried hard to tell herself.
That she hadn't been wrong to choose Shao Jinbo.
But only half a year later, the cruel reality ruthlessly shattered her self-consolation.
She had thought Shao Jinbo could help her achieve a leap in social class, but before they had even stepped into the marriage hall, he had already betrayed their relationship.
Xiao Hui was filled with regret.
At the same time, jealousy toward Du Xi quietly sprouted in the bottom of her heart.
She had to admit that Du Xi's choice was far wiser than hers.
Du Xi received the news that Xiao Hui had left and hurried downstairs.
"How did you persuade her?"
Tang Ye laughed in spite of himself, "I made her leave in a fit of anger."
Du Xi looked at Tang Ye with a complex expression, "She's in a terrible mood right now, and you still angered her; will she do something foolish?"
Tang Ye said firmly, "You underestimate Xiao Hui. She is stronger than anyone else."
That appearance just now was nothing more than an act.
After saying this, he handed the envelope to Du Xi.
After Du Xi saw the photos, she said in surprise, "I didn't expect Shao Jinbo to be this kind of person. Xiao Hui has finally seen his true colors. What about their wedding then?"
Tang Ye smiled faintly, "If I were the one to do something like this, what would you do?"
Du Xi looked at Tang Ye earnestly and said decisively, "You won't."
Tang Ye pulled Du Xi into his arms, "Thank you for your trust in me. Based on my understanding of Xiao Hui, there is a high probability that she will still choose to marry Shao Jinbo. After all, she has to consider the price that must be paid to start over."
Du Xi nodded thoughtfully.
Clearly, she had some understanding of her high school best friend.
Du Xi suddenly pinched Tang Ye's face with her hand.
"Comrade Tang Ye, listen well.
From now on, you belong only to me. Your eyes are not allowed to wander, and no one else is allowed to live in your heart besides me. This isn't me being selfish; it's because I'm afraid you'll be seduced by a vixen and go astray.
You are an excellent cadre; for the sake of your future and your political ambitions, you must discard messy, distracting thoughts.
Do you understand?"
Looking at Du Xi's burning gaze, Tang Ye smiled and nodded, "Both publicly and privately, I have no reason to refuse you."
Sparks flew from their gazes as they sat on the sofa, sharing a tender moment.
An image appeared in Tang Ye's mind.
He had once tried his hand at pottery.
With his hands applying force skillfully, pressing and kneading according to a unique rhythm, the clay obediently changed shape under his fingertips; every transformation was like a marvelous metamorphosis.
A sharp ring from the landline phone rang abruptly, breaking the warmth and tranquility.
A moving flush of pink instantly rose to Du Xi's cheeks, and she moved with light steps to answer the phone.
Tang Ye's gaze followed her figure the entire time, secretly thinking how beautiful she looked with a blushing face.
After hanging up the phone, Du Xi asked with a red face, "When are you going back?"
Tang Ye laughed, "Looking at your stance, you don't intend to let me go tonight, do you?"
