Chapter 25: Good Boys Must Be Snatched Up!

~11 min read 2,005 words

After lunch, Tang Ye parted ways with Gu Wenqin.

Around three in the afternoon, Tang Ye stood at the door of the hospital room, carrying a box of milk and a fruit basket, and knocked.

Yao Nainai was recovering well; her eyes were closed, and a radio sat on the bedside table, playing local opera in a chirping, melodic tone.

Sitting beside the hospital bed was a girl of about twenty, peeling an apple. Her skin was exceptionally fair, as if carved from mutton-fat jade; her face was small, her eyebrows curved, and her nose and mouth were delicate. Her figure was slender, yet she was certainly not lacking in the right places.

Hearing the knock, Yao Nainai opened her eyes, a look of pleasant surprise appearing in them. "Little Tang, you've come? Qingqing, this is Tang Ye, the one I mentioned to you."

Qingqing looked Tang Ye up and down. She hadn't expected the blind date candidate her grandmother introduced to be so handsome. He was different from the civil servants she knew—tall, dashing, and looking like the male lead of an idol drama.

Qingqing's cheeks turned red instantly, and she took the initiative to pour a glass of water for Tang Ye.

Tang Ye took the water, said thank you, took a sip, and asked with concern, "I asked my father about your condition; the surgery went very smoothly. I've been wanting to come see you, but I've been too busy lately. Seeing that you're in good spirits, I'm relieved now."

Yao Nainai smiled. "This time, it's all thanks to your quick reaction, otherwise I wouldn't have recovered so well. Let me introduce you; this is my granddaughter Qingqing. She's an alumna of yours, a freshman this year, studying law."

Tang Ye smiled and nodded at Qingqing. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Qingqing said, "I heard from my parents that it's thanks to your quick reaction that Grandma was saved. I've been wanting to thank you in person."

Tang Ye smiled at Qingqing. "I just happened to be there, don't mention it." After saying this, he said to Yao Nainai, "You have just recovered from a major illness and need to rest more, so I won't disturb you any longer."

Seeing Tang Ye stand up to leave, Yao Nainai pursed her lips at Qingqing. "Help me see him out."

Qingqing walked with Tang Ye. Usually carefree, she felt a bit sentimental at this moment. "My parents were very busy when I was little, and I lived with my grandparents until I left them for high school. After my grandfather passed away, Grandma was always very lonely. I've heard her talk about you; you often kept her company."

"You should come back to see her often."

"Once she's discharged this time, I'll rent a place near my school, and that will solve the problem."

"Taking Grandma to college with you? That's a pretty good idea."

Qingqing was stunned for a moment, then beamed. "You're quite witty!"

Tang Ye suddenly stopped and joked, "Do you have any coins? If not, I'll lend you one! You can't get on the bus without coins."

Qingqing was slightly taken aback, and before she knew it, she had followed Tang Ye out of the hospital.

She smiled awkwardly. "Look at how scatterbrained I am; I was only supposed to walk you to the bus stop."

Tang Ye thought the girl's personality was quite cute (and easy to fool).

"Shall we exchange contact information?"

"Sure!" Qingqing readily gave her QQ number.

"The bus is here!"

Seeing the bus approaching from afar, he hurried toward the stop. After boarding and paying the fare, he waved at Qingqing.

"Goodbye!"

The QQ friend request was accepted quickly.

Entering her space, he discovered she was quite a literary girl, posting diaries and moods in her space with fresh, fluid, and delicate writing.

"Tao, fifteen years older than me. In this relationship, age and experience are his advantages. I fell in love with his maturity at first, only to realize in the end that I had fallen in love with his hypocrisy."

"A woman in love will constantly try to make excuses for the other person. Even though he hurts her time and time again, she tries hard to explain it away as just another misunderstanding."

"I was abandoned by him again, left all alone in a cramped rental room. The room was a mess, I was covered in wounds, and he left so heartlessly to go find another woman."

"I always try to burn others with my own passion, but the other person is different. After enjoying the impulse, he quickly cools down and then walks away unscathed."

"He knelt before me again, begging for my forgiveness. Don't be moved by the way a man debases himself; the cigarette butt that burns him at this moment might burn you the next."

"I have told myself more than once that he is a cold, slick, and selfish person. In his eyes, I am like a doll, to be toyed with at will by pulling strings."

"I am tired of this life. I fell in love with someone who will never belong to me. Or perhaps I should leave this cruel world."

Hamlet-style prose.

Judging from the text, the girl had fallen in love with a male teacher several years her senior.

The male teacher had a family, and the girl couldn't let go.

Seeing the last sentence, Tang Ye wondered to himself if she would really commit suicide. After thinking for a moment, he left a comment: "I didn't expect your romantic history to be so rich."

Qingqing replied quickly, "Stories written for others to see are often not personal experiences."

Tang Ye continued to comment, "Your imagination is very powerful, and your writing is infectious; I was stunned reading it!"

Qingqing was amused!

Yao Nainai looked at her granddaughter strangely. "What's so funny?"

Qingqing quickly made up a story. "A dog was sleeping by the river, turned over, fell in, and became a drowned dog. The way the dog was splashing in the river was so funny."

Yao Nainai was infected by the mood and smiled. "What a silly dog!"

Not long after, her father and mother arrived.

Yao Nainai asked Qingqing in front of them, "What do you think of Little Tang?"

"Uh, think what about him?" Qingqing was stunned by the question.

"Hey, of course I mean whether you think you're compatible!"

Qingqing didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Grandma, I'm still in school, where would I find the time for romance?"

Other families worry about their daughters dating, but not her grandmother; she was busy arranging blind dates all day long.

Saying that good boys must be snatched up.

Otherwise, someone else would get there first and pick them off early.

Grandma beckoned Qingqing to come closer, took her granddaughter's wrist, and patiently persuaded her, "Although you are still in school, you aren't young anymore; you can consider dating. Instead of dating someone in school whose background you don't know, it's better to choose a decent candidate according to our ideas. Little Tang is several years older than you and knows how to be considerate and take care of people. His personality is steady; he's much more reliable than you dating randomly at school."

Qingqing looked at her father for help.

Her father looked at his mother-in-law on the hospital bed and smiled. "Although I don't suggest you date too early, Tang Ye is quite good. You can try getting along; even if you don't become boyfriend and girlfriend, you can still be ordinary friends."

Qingqing hadn't expected her father to rate Tang Ye so highly.

She suddenly remembered Lin Ziyang, whom she had met a few days ago.

Lin Ziyang had taken the initiative to exchange contact information with her and would send her some messages.

Lin Ziyang is also the savior of Grandmother, but Grandmother and Father seem to approve of Tang Ye more.

Mother coughed at this moment, "I don't approve! You need to focus your energy on your studies; you might go abroad to study in the future, so falling in love this early is a waste of energy. Tang Ye's character is not bad, but we don't know his family situation particularly well."

Yao Nainai frowned, "Are you doubting my eye for choosing people?"

The daughter's lips curled in disdain, and she glanced at her husband.

The son-in-law wore an awkward smile on his face.

Qingqing seemed to see sparks flying and smiled bitterly to herself; back then, the marriage between the two was decided by Yao Nainai, and although Father doted on Mother in every way, Mother always felt she should have pursued a free marriage.

Qingqing and Mother went to the cafeteria to get food.

The son-in-law kept watch over his mother-in-law in the hospital room, and seeing her haggard and weak appearance, he felt a bitter taste in his heart.

He could not have achieved what he has today without the support of his mother-in-law.

"Little Tang, this child is quite good; you must help him if you have the chance."

"Mom, don't worry. A drop of kindness received should be repaid with a gushing spring. I will arrange it well."

……

Returning to Pinghu, Tang Ye felt unprecedented pressure.

Every time he attended a Party Committee meeting, Xia Haiqiao would bring up the forty-million task and then sarcastically mock Tang Ye for only doing superficial work and not accomplishing anything substantial.

Even robbing a bank requires preparation; how can investment attraction just happen on command?

Moreover, a total investment of forty million is not a small amount.

The production line at Qinge has already started, with the first batch producing two thousand units at a cost of forty thousand; Gu Wenqin took samples to run the market, but Xu Jie adopted blocking measures against Gu Wenqin, and every agent with even a little bit of strength expressed refusal and was unwilling to place a bet, which gave Gu Wenqin quite a headache.

Qinge's transformation has fallen into a quagmire!

Investment attraction has made no progress!

Numerous pressures have been heaped upon him!

Tang Ye realized that grassroots work is not that simple.

However, in some aspects, progress had been made.

For example, his relationship with Town Mayor Chen Zhihua had grown closer.

Town Mayor Chen would call Tang Ye to go fishing with him and also invited him to his home for a meal.

Chen Zhihua's wife is named Wang Ning; she teaches English at Pinghu Middle School, has a gentle personality, and possesses excellent culinary skills.

Xu Yiping learned that Chen Zhihua was in close contact with Tang Ye, and his mood was quite complex.

He suspected whether Chen Zhihua wanted to use Tang Ye's connections in the city to give himself a chance to turn things around.

Upon closer thought, he felt he was overthinking it.

Tang Ye would only be in Pinghu Town for a year; once the time was up, he would naturally leave.

Pinghu Town has always been under Xu Yiping's control!

Xu Yiping was just preparing to get off work when the red desk phone rang, and the deep voice of County Magistrate Du Chengfeng came from it.

"Yiping, you must come to the County Government tomorrow; a nationally renowned enterprise is coming to our Tianling County to select a site to build a factory, and you need to prepare for the presentation."

"Which enterprise?" Xu Yiping was caught off guard upon hearing this news.

"Aiou Electric." Du Chengfeng paused, "Bring Tang Ye; he performed very well last time."

He did not expect County Magistrate Du to specifically request Tang Ye to attend this meeting.

Clearly, during the inspection activity organized by the city last time, Tang Ye had left a deep impression on the leaders.

Xu Yiping felt as if he were eating rice and suddenly bit into a mouse dropping; it was choking!

"Understood, County Magistrate! We will definitely seize the opportunity."
