Chapter 371: The Crying Child Gets the Candy!
Xiao Zheng returned to the office.
The Deputy Director of the Transportation Bureau immediately came up to him, asking with a cautious tone, "Director Zheng, is Director Gao available to see me now?"
"My apologies, Director Wang, for keeping you waiting. I was just handling matters for County Magistrate Tang, so I was delayed." Xiao Zheng hurriedly greeted the other party.
"What is this County Magistrate Tang's background? It actually requires you to personally handle the process?" Director Wang asked curiously.
"Tang Ye, Deputy County Magistrate of Suiyuan County, formerly the Secretary of the Second Section." Xiao Zheng lowered his voice.
"So it's him!" Director Wang's initial dissatisfaction instantly dissipated; clearly, he had heard of this name before.
Tang Ye arrived at the familiar Secretariat Section Two with the report. Because he had greeted Wen Rong in advance, she and Shi Hao had already made arrangements.
Unfortunately, Jiang Jing was not in the office due to a meeting, so Wen Rong invited Tang Ye to wait in the reception area.
Watching Wen Rong sit at his former workstation, complex emotions stirred in Tang Ye's heart.
"Is work going smoothly lately? Is the pressure high?"
"The work intensity is fine; it's just that working with Mayor Jiang, I still have to slowly adapt to his rhythm," Wen Rong admitted.
She used to think Tang Ye's work was easy, as many matters were left for them to handle; only after truly taking over did she discover that behind those seemingly unflappable styles of conduct, he had secretly considered the issues and performed numerous deductions and assessments.
"Don't rush, just slowly adjust," Tang Ye replied with an encouraging smile.
He knew that although Wen Rong and he had once held the same position, their situations were vastly different.
Back then, Jiang Jing used him to balance Lin Ru, hence providing much support;
Now that Shi Hao was deeply trusted, Wen Rong's influence naturally could not compare to his own.
Footsteps came from outside the door; Jiang Jing and Shi Hao returned to the office.
Wen Rong immediately stood up, took Tang Ye's application report, and walked into the inner office. A moment later, she came out and smiled, "County Magistrate Tang, you may go in."
When Tang Ye walked into Jiang Jing's office, the other party had already signed the document and was smiling as he handed the report back. His gaze suddenly fell on Tang Ye's right hand, and Jiang Jing asked with concern, "I heard you were injured on your second day in office?"
"Just a superficial wound, it's nothing," Tang Ye said hurriedly.
Jiang Jing's expression hardened: "To dare to attack a public official in broad daylight—these people are simply lawless. This is not just disrupting public order; it is a provocation against the government's credibility. How is the investigation progressing? Who is the mastermind behind it?"
Tang Ye sighed softly: "It is Xu Zongchao, who may now be using the alias Huang Chao. According to feedback from Comrade Wan Ming, he has fled abroad, and those three assailants also infiltrated from abroad."
"This Xu Zongchao is greedy by nature and ruthless in his methods." Jiang Jing slammed his palm onto the desk, shaking the pen holder by half an inch. "Since he has developed the intent to kill you, you must take strict precautions. These desperate thugs are highly likely to make a comeback."
Tang Ye nodded heavily: "I understand, thank you for the reminder, Mayor Jiang. But please rest assured, I will not back down."
Jiang Jing patted his shoulder, his tone softening slightly: "I will have Shi Hao follow up on the special funds throughout the process, striving to get them implemented as soon as possible. The 'renovation instead of clearance' approach you proposed is very forward-looking; it can retain the enterprise's production capacity, stabilize employment and public sentiment, and create a 'green transformation' demonstration effect for the Suiyuan Industrial Park."
"Thank you for your trust, Mayor Jiang. I will certainly give it my all," Tang Ye said solemnly.
Before the words had faded, Jiang Jing suddenly pulled open a drawer, took out an address book, and dialed the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau Director's number in front of him:
"Comrade Zhang Yong, this is Jiang Jing."
"Hello, Mayor Jiang! May I ask what your instructions are?" A slightly nervous response came through the receiver.
Jiang Jing tapped his fingertips on the desk: "I just signed off on the environmental protection special fund application for Suiyuan County. Have you seen this report?"
"I have! Director Gao Ping specifically instructed me, and I have already signed and approved it. Is there a problem?" Zhang Yong's tone became increasingly cautious.
"The report is fine. The funds will be transferred to the Environmental Protection Bureau's account soon, and you must transfer them to Suiyuan County immediately. Additionally, you must organize an expert team at once to, on one hand, supervise the use of funds throughout the process to ensure every cent is spent on rectification; and on the other hand, keep a close eye on the renovation progress to ensure the environmental upgrade is completed within the time limit," Jiang Jing's tone carried unquestionable majesty.
"Please rest assured! I will immediately convene a special meeting to deploy this, and as soon as the funds arrive, I will personally lead a team to Suiyuan County to supervise!" Zhang Yong's commitment was crisp and decisive.
Although Jiang Jing did not directly oversee environmental protection, ever since he toppled Cao Zhengchun, his deterrent power throughout the municipal government system had become pivotal.
No one dared to be perfunctory with his instructions.
Hanging up the phone, Jiang Jing turned to Tang Ye, his tone carrying a bit more warmth: "I have already made arrangements with the Environmental Protection Bureau; just go ahead and do your work. If you encounter any resistance, report to me at any time."
Tang Ye's throat moved, and gratitude welled up in his eyes: "Thank you, Mayor Jiang, for such strong support."
Jiang Jing waved his hand, then suddenly remembered something: "Secretary Zhou heard about your injury and specifically instructed that it be handled properly. Remember, the city is your most solid backing."
"With those words from you, my heart is at ease."
Tang Ye secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
The blood shed that day had not been in vain.
"Work in Suiyuan County needs to find a breakthrough as soon as possible. Do you have any feasible ideas?"
Tang Ye looked troubled: "The fiscal situation in Suiyuan County can be described as severe; we must be prepared to live a frugal life for the next few years. Especially this year and next, it will be even more difficult. In the future, as long as we tighten our belts, avoid blind development of large projects, and refrain from extravagant construction, we can barely manage to sustain ourselves just by maintaining normal administrative expenses."
Hearing this, Jiang Jing raised an eyebrow and teased with a light laugh: "Going around in circles, so you're here to cry poverty to me?"
Tang Ye scratched his head, looking embarrassed: "The old saying goes, 'the crying child gets the candy.' The city can't really just be a hands-off manager and not allocate a single cent, right? But please rest assured, whatever funds are allocated, we will definitely spend them where they are needed most."
Jiang Jing tapped his fingertips on the desk: "State your plan directly."
Tang Ye said solemnly: "The top priority is to make up for the shortcomings in transportation infrastructure. If nothing else, the 'roads to every village' goal must be implemented, right? Suiyuan County has been struggling for this goal for ten years, and even now, one-third of the villages still don't have concrete roads."
Hearing this, Jiang Jing turned to Shi Hao, "Livelihood projects cannot be delayed. Secretary-General Shi, you personally coordinate this with the Transportation Bureau. Give them a firm order: they must crack this hard nut of 'roads to every village' in Suiyuan County within two years."
After Tang Ye left, Jiang Jing glanced at Shi Hao, "What do you think? Little Tang still has boldness, doesn't he?"
Shi Hao smiled and praised, "I used to think Little Tang was smooth in his dealings and suitable for the bureaucracy, but now I see he has strong execution, dares to act and take responsibility, and is suitable for the grassroots—he is a rare talent!"
