Chapter 454: The Deputy Director's Cause of Death Becomes a Mystery!

~9 min read 1,629 words

Tang Ye checked his watch, preparing to wait until ten o'clock to head to Han Guangyao's office to chat with him about registering a company with the Industrial Park as the main entity.

Tang Ye had mentioned his idea to Han Guangyao a few days ago, but Han Guangyao hadn't answered directly at the time, so Tang Ye analyzed that he must have been waiting for results from above.

Regarding this kind of brand-new model, the top leader is often quite sensitive.

He would consider many things, not just the issue of development, but also matters involving ideology.

In politics, one can be mediocre, but one cannot be unconventional.

Just as Tang Ye was about to pick up the phone to call Han Guangyao, the ajar door was pushed open.

He looked over subconsciously, and a strange woman was standing at the doorway.

Tang Ye's office was not particularly large, but it had two suites, one in and one out; Lin Heng was in the outer room, Tang Ye was in the inner room, and there was also a door that led directly to the hallway.

Usually, this door was kept closed, and to enter the room, one had to meet with the Liaison Officer first.

After the cleaning staff finished cleaning the office in the morning, the door in the inner room facing the hallway had not been closed tightly; it was only left ajar.

Tang Ye hadn't paid attention to it at the time, never expecting this woman to sneak in through this door.

"County Magistrate Tang, my husband died too unjustly!" The woman was around forty years old and knelt directly before Tang Ye.

Tang Ye hurriedly stepped forward to support her arms: "Please stand up and speak, don't be anxious; if I can help, I will certainly help you resolve it."

Hearing movement inside the room, Lin Heng walked in from the outer room to help persuade her: "Big Sister Yu, please get up quickly, let's talk things over properly."

Tang Ye glanced at Lin Heng: "Do you know this big sister?"

Lin Heng gave a sheepish smile: "She is the wife of Li Yongbo, Deputy Director of the County Garden Bureau."

Tang Ye suddenly remembered news he had heard not long ago: a Deputy Director of the County Garden Bureau had died suddenly at a dinner table because he had drunk too much alcohol.

Han Guangyao had even emphasized this matter at a meeting as a typical example, stating that one should drink in moderation.

Could it be?

Was there a hidden story behind this matter?

As the Liaison Officer, Lin Heng felt he had neglected his duty by failing to discover someone breaking into the leader's office in time. He crouched beside Yu Yan and whispered, "Please get up. Even if you want to get things done, you have to stand up to talk. If you kneel on the ground, who can hear clearly what you are saying?"

Hearing Lin Heng say this, Yu Yan grabbed Tang Ye's thigh directly.

"County Magistrate Tang, I tried many ways to see you. I know you are a person with a sense of chivalry; you must promise me that you will clear my husband's name, otherwise I absolutely will not get up."

Lin Heng was so anxious he was scratching his head: "Hey, don't be like this! If you don't get up, I will call security to escort you out. If you want to solve the problem, stand up first and then we can talk."

Tang Ye understood Lin Heng's thinking; it made sense to have Yu Yan get up to talk.

As long as a visitor kneels, they gain a certain degree of moral advantage, and kneeling for a long time without getting up is truly a troublesome matter.

Tang Ye tried to move his body and found that both his legs were being held tightly; he sighed softly: "If I'm not mistaken, it was Deputy County Magistrate Wu Yang who told you to come find me, right?"

Yu Yan froze for a moment, then looked up at Tang Ye in surprise.

Tang Ye realized he had guessed correctly.

Wu Yang was the Deputy County Magistrate in charge of the Garden Bureau; if nothing went wrong, Yu Yan should have found Wu Yang first, hoping to ask him for help.

Knowing his own abilities were limited, Wu Yang had come up with a plan for her, telling Yu Yan to go find Tang Ye.

In Wu Yang's view, Tang Ye was warm-hearted and would certainly step in to help when encountering unjust matters.

However, Tang Ye did not like the feeling of being manipulated.

"Get up quickly, or I will call County Magistrate Wu and have him take you away."

Yu Yan wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and said softly: "Please don't blame County Magistrate Wu; he thinks very highly of you and feels that only you can help me solve the problem."

Tang Ye had experience in handling these kinds of matters: "Please sit down, Xiao Lin, go pour a glass of water."

Yu Yan drank some water, and her mood gradually calmed down.

Tang Ye dialed Wu Yang's number: "County Magistrate Wu, are you free now? If you are, please come to my office for a sit-down."

A moment later, Wu Yang pushed the door open and, seeing Yu Yan, a look of shock appeared on his face: "Why are you here?"

Yu Yan stopped mid-sentence, wanting to say more but holding back.

Tang Ye thought to himself that Wu Yang was really good at playing dumb, but he didn't expose him: "County Magistrate Wu, you should know the reason why Big Sister Yu came to find me, right?"

Wu Yang sat down and said in a grave tone: "I know Old Li quite well; he usually barely touched a drop of alcohol. When he attended that dinner, it was suddenly reported that he died of a heart attack due to drunkenness; I found it particularly surprising."

Yu Yan said: "County Magistrate Tang, you must uphold justice for me. After Old Li died, I requested an autopsy, but the hospital told me that he had already been sent to the crematorium and cremated at the first opportunity. Without the consent of the family, they destroyed the evidence without authorization; this matter is too excessive."

Tang Ye looked toward Wu Yang: "Is there really such a thing?"

Wu Yang sighed helplessly: "It is indeed highly suspicious that Old Li was cremated so quickly."

Tang Ye rubbed his chin and said in a deep voice: "The dead cannot return to life, so please do your best to restrain your grief. No one wants such a thing to happen. Since the matter has occurred, we must face it correctly. I do not have the authority to intervene in this case; it can only be handed over to the law enforcement departments to handle according to legal regulations."

Seeing that Tang Ye was unwilling to intervene in this matter, Yu Yan became anxious and knelt down toward Tang Ye once again.

This time, Tang Ye was prepared and hurriedly supported her arms.

Yu Yan felt as if she had encountered a great mountain; no matter how much strength she used, her knees could not touch the ground.

"Big Sister Yu, you cannot solve the problem this way. How about I introduce a lawyer to you and see if we can resolve this matter through legal channels?"

Yu Yan said with red eyes: "County Magistrate Tang, I have also thought about going through legal channels, but it is truly too difficult. No lawyer is willing to take this case."

Tang Ye understood what Yu Yan meant; this involved issues within the Government, which were quite sensitive, and the chances of winning were slim. Few lawyers would be willing to take on such a case that offered little reward and was a thankless task.

Wu Yang saw that Tang Ye would not easily state his position and whispered, "Why don't you go back for today?"

Yu Yan looked at Wu Yang with a complex expression.

Lin Heng hurriedly continued to persuade Yu Yan: "Big Sister Yu, County Magistrate Tang has a meeting later. I will leave you my contact information; you go back first, and we will contact each other later, how about that?"

Several comrades from the Security Section arrived upon hearing the noise and stood at the doorway, looking at Yu Yan with serious expressions.

Unauthorized personnel appearing in a County Leader's office meant they had neglected their duties and would have to bear the responsibility.

Knowing there would be no result today, Yu Yan got up helplessly and left silently.

The people finally dispersed. Lin Heng wanted to discuss the problems with the County Government's security measures, but remembering that "too much talk leads to mistakes," he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue.

Once Lin Heng walked out of the office, only Wu Yang remained in the room.

Tang Ye decided to simply lay his cards on the table with Wu Yang.

"Old Wu, you are setting a difficult problem for me! This matter is not small; what exactly is going on?"

Wu Yang's expression was grave: "There are many suspicious points regarding the death of Li Yongbo! County Magistrate Tang, I hope you can help Yu Yan; she is my middle school classmate. I have been friends with the couple for many years."

"As early as half a year ago, Li Yongbo once said something to me: if one day he were to suddenly die, I should not be surprised."

"I am only realizing this now; perhaps he had long known that he would have such a day."
