Chapter 459: Thank You for Saving Me!

~8 min read 1,509 words

The driver standing beside Feng Lin saw that things were going poorly and turned to flee into the darkness.

In an instant, the engines of several sedans roared to life.

The blinding headlights cut through the night like sharp swords, the intense light causing him to instinctively raise his hand to shield his eyes.

Feng Lin fell heavily onto the cold ground, struggling to lift his head and look toward the light source.

A group of uniformed figures filed out from the vehicles.

The two people in the lead caused his pupils to shrink sharply.

One was Suiyuan County Deputy County Magistrate Tang Ye, and the other was none other than the Director of the County Public Security Bureau, Wan Ming.

Without looking back, Wan Ming whispered to the police officers behind him: "Go upstairs immediately and rescue Yao Ying!"

Several officers rushed into the villa like arrows released from a bowstring.

Within three minutes, a report came over the walkie-talkie: "Director Wan, the target has been found! She is handcuffed to the bed frame on the second floor; preliminary examination shows no signs of assault."

Upon hearing the confirmation, Wan Ming walked slowly to Feng Lin and kicked him hard in the abdomen without mercy: "Where is the key?"

Feng Lin had not yet spoken.

Wan Ming's leather shoe had already ground heavily into his cheek, the tread of the sole embedding deeply into his skin, causing him to cough violently as he felt suffocated.

Tang Ye watched all of this with cold eyes.

Although Wan Ming's methods were slightly crude, they stirred an indescribable sense of satisfaction in the depths of his heart.

This villain, who had relied on his father's power to run rampant in Suiyuan for many years, had finally met his retribution.

Wan Ming stopped only after kicking him until he was panting, then leaned down to fish the key out of Feng Lin's blood-stained pocket and threw it to Er Zi: "Go save her quickly!"

Er Zi caught the key and sprinted upstairs.

A moment later, Yao Ying walked out of the villa, supported by a female officer.

Seeing Feng Lin curled up on the ground, his face covered in blood, the girl's emotions from surviving the ordeal burst like a dam, and tears rolled down like broken pearls.

She trembled and used sign language to gesture: "Thank you for saving me..."

The fluttering fingertips carried the tremors of having survived, leaving Tang Ye sighing with emotion.

Seeing the girl's frail figure, Wan Ming's rage grew even greater, and he kicked Feng Lin in the ribs once more.

This time, Feng Lin curled up like a shrimp in pain, and the blood foam coughed up from his throat stained the gravel on the ground red.

"Wan Ming! I want to report you for lynching!"

He roared, but it only earned him a cold sneer from Wan Ming.

"For scum like you who wouldn't even spare a deaf-mute child, we have to speak with our fists!"

When Feng Lin was dragged up like a pile of mud, his messy hair was stuck to his face with blood and filth.

He stared fixedly at the handcuffed Wu Ji, a hysterical roar erupting from his throat: "Wu Ji! I treated you well, why did you betray me? You ungrateful dog!"

The handcuffs on Wu Ji's wrists reflected the cold light, and he pulled a helpless, bitter smile: "Feng Lin, I was at the end of my rope too. The matter of Li Yongbo has already been exposed; if I didn't tell the truth, I would have had to take the fall for you! Every debt has a debtor, and you were the one who ordered the killing; I was just responsible for cleaning up the aftermath."

"You think you can get away with it? You killed Sun Gang!" Feng Lin said in a fit of desperation.

Wu Ji, however, suddenly let out an eerie laugh: "I have to tell you the truth—Sun Gang didn't die. I wanted to silence him that day, but he was saved by the police who were following me, so that counts as attempted murder. But you're different; you ordered the driver to act against Li Yongbo, and after killing him, you forced alcohol down his throat to fake a scene of alcohol poisoning!"

Wu Ji's words made Feng Lin feel as if he had fallen into an ice cellar!

He knew clearly that this time, he was truly beyond salvation.

As Feng Lin and the driver were being escorted into the car, Er Zi suddenly stared at the driver, his pupils shrinking, and he slapped his thigh hard: "Director Wan! I recognize this man; he seems to be an A-level Wanted Criminal!"

Wan Ming's heart jolted, and he leaned in to look closely but did not recognize him: "Are you sure?"

"Absolutely!" Er Zi said with a solemn expression, "I look at the national wanted list every day. His name is Gao Genlin; five years ago, he was a driver for a bank president and followed orders to kill a staff member who was preparing to report corruption. After the president was caught, he vanished!"

Watching Gao Genlin nervously lower his head after being exposed, Wan Ming patted Er Zi on the shoulder and said in a deep voice: "The top credit for this case goes to you."

A light instantly burst into Er Zi's eyes.

A cold case from several years ago had unexpectedly been solved by him by sheer accident tonight.

When luck comes, nothing can stop it!

At the same time, Cheng Lin and Principal Wei were pacing anxiously in the lobby of the Public Security Bureau.

Suddenly, the roar of dense engines came from outside the courtyard, and the two walked quickly to the steps, only to see several police cars filing in.

When Feng Lin was shoved out of the car by officers, the blood on his face had blurred his features, while Yao Ying walked out from another police car, her figure trembling slightly.

Principal Wei rushed forward and slapped Feng Lin hard: "You beast!"

Feng Lin lifted his head in astonishment, a flash of ferocity in his eyes—when the wall falls, everyone pushes.

This principal, who had once fawned over him, now dared to humiliate him at will.

His gaze swept over Tang Ye not far away, his eyes filled with a mixture of resentment and fear.

Principal Wei then walked toward Yao Ying, pulling the girl tightly into her arms, her voice choked with sobs: "I'm sorry, it's all my fault! I shouldn't have agreed to Sun Linong's request for you to dance, which is how that villain set his sights on you..."

Yao Ying buried her face in her shoulder.

After the suppressed sobbing gradually subsided.

She raised her head and used sign language to gesture: "Principal Wei, don't blame yourself. You have done so much for the school, and we all keep it in our hearts. I know you have been trying to find a way to save me; you will always be my Mother Wei."

These words made Principal Wei's eyes turn red.

Cheng Lin watched this scene, her nose aching, and she quietly wiped away her tears.

Tang Ye handed over a tissue and said in a deep voice: "This child is too sensible."

He thought to himself that if Yao Ying had truly met with a tragic end, he would likely never have been able to find peace of mind.

"The outline of this case is basically clear now." Tang Ye turned to Cheng Lin, "For years, Feng Lin relied on fabricating nursery stock contracts to commit loan fraud and practice usury, and there were cadres in the Suiyuan Gardening Bureau covering for him. Deputy Bureau Chief Li Yongbo discovered this and collected evidence, only to be framed by him, which ultimately led to his death. I have already reported to Secretary Han, and a special task force is now being established to investigate thoroughly."

Cheng Lin nodded in realization: "No wonder you were able to pinpoint Yao Ying's location so quickly."

Tang Ye said softly, "Secretary Han knew about this case."

Cheng Lin was stunned for a moment, feeling somewhat surprised in her heart.

Tang Ye had already formed a close relationship with Han Guangyao.

It felt as if a relationship she cherished most had been snatched away by someone else.

While they were speaking, Principal Wei walked in front of the two of them with Yao Ying.

"Being able to be rescued today is all thanks to the two leaders," Principal Wei reminded them softly.

Yao Ying immediately flattened her right palm, bent her thumb twice, and a sincere smile rose on her face.

That was the gesture for "thank you" in sign language.

Cheng Lin took a deep breath and solemnly promised Principal Wei: "It is getting late, take the child back to rest. We will handle the follow-up matters seriously; not a single one of those people who committed these evils will get away."
