Chapter 488: A Narrow Escape from the Gates of Hell!

~8 min read 1,535 words

After getting off work.

Tang Ye thought about Han Guangyao's instructions, driving around the Old City area to conduct a field survey!

The urban area of the county was not large, and it revealed a dilapidated appearance.

His gaze landed on a residential area not far away, calculating in his mind that this place could be renovated into a commercial CBD.

A small car in front was moving at a slow speed.

Tang Ye subconsciously honked the horn a few times.

Unexpectedly, the other party was a "road rager," intentionally blocking his car and slamming on the brakes from time to time.

Tang Ye tried to overtake, but was blocked repeatedly.

As a Deputy County Magistrate, he naturally would not get angry over such a small matter, so he simply turned on his turn signal and parked the car on the side of the road, intending to wait for the car in front to drive away.

Tang Ye took out a cigarette and observed the street scene through the car window, discovering that besides the hardware, there were also many problems with the management of the county.

Street stalls were visible everywhere, and many shops set up tents outside their doors to occupy the road; if a fire were to occur, it would likely be difficult for fire trucks to pass through smoothly.

After smoking half a cigarette, a BMW drove toward him, and the young man in the passenger seat rolled down the window and shouted arrogantly, "Driving a piece of junk Volkswagen, do you think you're hot stuff?"

Only then did Tang Ye realize that the small car in front had actually turned back to "settle the score."

He couldn't be bothered to pay attention, stubbed out his cigarette, and slowly rolled up the window.

As a Deputy County Magistrate, there was no need to argue with people on the street.

This was not cowardice, but disdain.

Who would have thought that the BMW seemed to have been "provoked," as the driver slammed on the accelerator and drove directly across the front of Tang Ye's Bora. Two young men got out of the car, and the one who had been driving slapped the car window angrily: "Get out of the car!"

Tang Ye lowered the window slightly and said in a deep voice, "Don't look for trouble, leave quickly."

The young man sneered: "Screw your grandfather! Get out of the car and apologize to me right now, or don't think about leaving today!"

Tang Ye was truly angered now, and just as he was about to open the car door, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a bulge around the waist of one of them; his heart pounded, and he did not rashly get out of the car.

The young man had intended to provoke Tang Ye into getting out of the car, and seeing that he didn't fall for it, he gave a wink to the man beside him.

The man was seen pulling a hammer out of the BMW's trunk and walking straight toward Tang Ye.

Sensing danger, Tang Ye immediately shifted into reverse and slammed on the accelerator.

The sedan sped backward, kicking up a cloud of dust.

At the same time, he took out his phone and dialed Wan Ming's number, smiling bitterly: "I've been attacked here in the city!"

Wan Ming was shocked: "I'm coming over right now, hold on!"

Just after hanging up the phone, Tang Ye felt a violent jolt at the rear of the car, and the airbag instantly exploded, slamming hard into his face.

The immense force left Tang Ye's vision pitch black and his mind blank; he didn't know how much time had passed before he regained consciousness from the dizziness.

At this moment, a crisp "crack" sound came from the passenger side.

The car window was violently smashed.

A hand reached in from the outside, attempting to pull open the car door.

Tang Ye's heart shook violently!

Today's conflict was definitely no accident; someone must have set a death trap!

If he hadn't reacted quickly, he would likely have been ambushed the moment he was tricked into getting out of the car.

The consequences would have been unimaginable!

The right door was violently yanked open, and a man holding a watermelon knife stabbed fiercely toward Tang Ye.

Thinking quickly, he pulled the mechanism under the seat with his right hand.

The driver's seat instantly flipped backward, barely dodging this fatal blow.

Tang Ye knew his life was hanging by a thread, yet his brain was unusually clear.

He quickly unbuckled his seatbelt, hunched over to crawl into the back seat, and slammed the door open to strike one of the thugs.

The other party thought he was trying to run away, but did not expect Tang Ye to slam his shoulder into him, knocking him down, then immediately flip up to stand, snatch up the fruit knife that had fallen on the ground, and crouch down like a leopard, staring at the three people in front of him.

Except for the guy on the ground clutching his head and groaning.

The two thugs did not intend to stop there.

"What exactly do you want to do?"

"We want your life!"

"Who sent you?"

"You ask too many questions! You know who you offended!"

"This kid is intentionally stalling for time!"

"Finish it quickly!"

The driver whispered instructions to his accomplice beside him.

Before the words had even faded, the accomplice lunged forward with the knife.

Tang Ye rolled on the ground and backhanded a slash at the other party's ankle.

"Ah!"

The man fell to the ground screaming, his hands clutching his bleeding wound tightly.

The driver hadn't expected Tang Ye to be so agile, and upon hearing the sound of sirens not far away, he gasped and shouted: "The situation is bad, retreat!"

Having said that, he and the accomplice who had just climbed up hoisted the injured man and stumbled toward the BMW.

Tang Ye wanted to chase after them, but found his legs stiff and powerless from the violent impact.

He could only lean against the car body, feigning composure, his gaze fixed like a knife on the direction the thugs were fleeing.

Three police cars finally arrived at the scene with sirens wailing.

The moment he saw Wan Ming, Tang Ye's tightly wound nerves suddenly relaxed.

Seeing him covered in blood, Wan Ming said with a trembling voice, "County Magistrate Tang, how are you? I will take you to the hospital immediately!"

Tang Ye threw away the knife in his hand and said to Wan Ming with a bitter smile, "I suppose I took a trip through the gates of hell today."

"Er Zi, take some men and pursue! You must capture those people!" While giving the order, Wan Ming helped Tang Ye into the police car.

Looking at the Bora car stalled on the side of the street, Tang Ye felt both angry and fortunate.

It was a pity that the car was broken, but it was a great blessing that he was unharmed.

Wan Ming originally wanted to take him directly to the City People's Hospital, but Tang Ye insisted that his injuries were not serious and that he had only suffered a blow to the head.

Thus, the group turned toward the County Hospital.

After the examination was completed, Wan Ming brought the news: "Those three people abandoned the stolen BMW, hid another car ten kilometers away, and fled in the southwest direction."

"Stop the pursuit," Tang Ye said with a tone of regret, "The other party clearly planned this for a long time."

"These bastards are too cunning!" Wan Ming gritted his teeth in anger.

Tang Ye sighed softly, "It's fine; it served as a reminder to me that I must be twice as careful in the future."

Although Tang Ye told Wan Ming not to spread the news of his injury, the word soon got out.

The first call Tang Ye received was from Cheng Lin.

"I heard you were injured. How are your injuries?" Cheng Lin's voice carried obvious urgency.

"Sister, it's just some superficial wounds; I just scraped my forehead a little," Tang Ye responded in a relaxed tone.

"Where are you? I'm coming to find you right now."

"There's really no need! I'm truly fine here," Tang Ye hurriedly dissuaded her.

Cheng Lin then realized her tone had been a bit uncomposed, so she calmed herself and said, "Don't try to be tough; if you aren't feeling well, just take a few days off to rest."

"I'm really fine, see you tomorrow!"

Tang Ye said with a smile to reassure her.

He hung up the phone with Cheng Lin.

Han Guangyao's call came in immediately after.

"I just received the news and heard you were injured. How is your situation now?"

"Many thanks for your concern, Secretary Han. I have no major issues, please rest assured. However, that group seemed to have planned this," Tang Ye said with deep emotion, "I suspect they came with a premeditated plan!"

Han Guangyao's voice sank.

"You have sacrificed too much for Suiyuan! This matter must be investigated thoroughly; we must not be lenient!"
