Chapter 490: Medals Carved on the Head!

~8 min read 1,552 words

After Qin Zhiyuan left, Tang Ye dialed Cheng Lin's number.

"The ex-husband is gone; I reckon you'll still have to be tormented by him for a while."

Cheng Lin was somewhat surprised: "What did you say to him?"

Tang Ye said helplessly: "I thought he would be tired, but I didn't expect him to become more courageous with every setback."

Cheng Lin couldn't help but chuckle: "Perhaps one day, I will change my mind."

"Sister, don't you waver; Qin Zhiyuan really isn't worthy of you."

Cheng Lin gave a hum, her tone firm: "I gave up on him long ago."

After hanging up the phone, Cheng Lin's state of mind was hard to calm.

When she learned the news that Tang Ye was injured, she only felt her mind go blank.

The weight of Tang Ye in her heart had long since become impossible to suppress.

Cheng Lin walked into the bathroom, took off her clothes, and turned on the cold water.

The icy mist sprayed by the showerhead made her shiver all over, but the wildfire-like desire in her heart did not dissipate for a long time.

She warned herself over and over again.

Tang Ye has a family; the relationship between the two must have clear boundaries.

Once the line is crossed, it will be a huge hidden danger for both of them.

After hanging up Cheng Lin's call, Du Xi's name appeared on the phone screen.

Tang Ye realized the news had spread after all.

Du Xi's tone was very nervous: "Hubby, you're injured; why didn't you tell me?"

Tang Ye was stunned for a moment, then said with a grin: "Who told you I was injured? Don't listen to others' nonsense. I'm perfectly fine, not a thing wrong."

Du Xi was both angry and anxious: "My dad told my mom. My mom originally planned to keep it from me, but I saw through it."

Tang Ye thought to himself that his mother-in-law was straightforward and couldn't keep a secret: "I didn't tell you because I was afraid you'd worry. It's just a minor injury; see, aren't I fine?"

Du Xi's eyes were red: "I've taken leave; I'll come to Suiyuan to see you first thing tomorrow morning."

Tang Ye said with a smile: "Come then, I know you're worried. I'm off tomorrow too, so I'll take you around Suiyuan."

Du Xi's mood improved quite a bit: "Then see you tomorrow!"

After hanging up Du Xi's call, a touch of warmth appeared at the corners of Tang Ye's mouth.

In this world, the happiest thing is having someone care about you.

Tang Ye was preparing to go to bed when the doorbell rang again.

Tang Ye walked over to open the door.

Wan Ming walked in.

Tang Ye knew Wan Ming had found a lead: "How is it? Did you catch them?"

Wan Ming said: "Based on the car's movement trajectory, we visited many places and learned that these three people should be from out of town. As early as a week ago, they stole this car in another province and rented three rooms at a small inn."

Tang Ye frowned: "As expected! They were targeting me."

Wan Ming nodded and said: "Your reaction was quick; if you hadn't been cautious enough, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Er Zi checked the information on the three, and they all have criminal records. They disappeared a few years ago and smuggled themselves abroad. Their sudden appearance this time, I reckon they must have smuggled themselves back."

Tang Ye realized: "Related to Xu Zongchao again? This guy is like a lingering ghost."

Wan Ming was also quite frustrated: "It's a pity we didn't take him down back then."

Tang Ye said: "If nothing goes wrong, he must have accomplices in the country providing him with help. If we can't catch him, we can start by investigating his accomplices."

Wan Ming nodded slightly: "I've combed through his connections; he is very close to Nie Kai. Additionally, he has quite a few business collaborations with Mayor Xiao's son."

Tang Ye touched his chin and said meaningfully, "County Magistrate Nie's problems are very serious!"

Early the next morning.

Tang Ye removed the gauze and waited for Du Xi at the station.

Humans are complex animals, which can be seen from Tang Ye's mindset.

He wants the outside world to know that he works very hard in Suiyuan, even at the risk of his life.

But he is also afraid that his family will worry too much about him!

Du Xi soon appeared in his field of vision; among the crowd, she looked exceptionally dazzling.

Du Xi's nose bridge was straight, the tip slightly upturned, her lip color was light, and her eyebrows were naturally shaped like they were carved, making her almond eyes look extremely spirited. She was wearing a simple shirt and casual pants, yet she exuded an unadorned competence and dash.

Tang Ye walked over and hugged Du Xi.

Du Xi looked Tang Ye over with a face full of concern.

Tang Ye said with a smile, "Don't worry, I'm not missing any arms or legs; I just scraped some skin on my head."

Du Xi said softly, "I didn't sleep a wink yesterday."

Tang Ye apologized sincerely, "I'm sorry, I made you worry."

Du Xi hailed a taxi for Tang Ye and asked strangely, "Why didn't you drive?"

Tang Ye explained, "The car is broken and was sent to the repair shop."

Du Xi's tears welled up instantly, "The car is even broken, and you still say you're fine."

Tang Ye pulled Du Xi tightly into his arms again, "I'm really fine, aren't I perfectly okay?"

Du Xi pushed Tang Ye away, observed his forehead, and said with heartache, "Does it still hurt?"

Tang Ye shook his head, "It hurt a little before, but after seeing you, it doesn't hurt at all."

If it were someone else, they would definitely think Tang Ye was very cheesy.

But when facing the person he loves, many words just naturally spill out.

Du Xi patted Tang Ye on the chest: "You really are worrying; you get injured every once in a while."

Tang Ye laughed and teased, "Scars are a man's medals; I'll carve my medals onto my head!"

Du Xi took the initiative to ask Tang Ye to cook, and the two bought groceries at the market near the residential complex.

Returning home, Du Xi pushed Tang Ye out of the kitchen.

Tang Ye sat on the sofa and turned on the television.

Before he could even change the channel, he heard movement coming from the kitchen.

Tang Ye walked over to take a look; a crucian carp was thrashing its tail on the floor.

Du Xi stood to the side, at a loss for what to do.

Tang Ye scooped up the crucian carp, threw it into the sink, rolled up his sleeves, and chuckled, "I'd better do it myself!"

Du Xi watched Tang Ye skillfully kill the fish and said softly, "Hubby, am I quite useless?"

Tang Ye said with a smile, "How could that be? You're just used to playing with guns and aren't accustomed to using a knife."

Du Xi understood Tang Ye's coded language and gave him a cross look, "You're talking nonsense again."

The doorbell rang, and Du Xi volunteered, "I'll go open the door."

After opening the door, Du Xi and Cheng Lin locked eyes.

Cheng Lin was the first to snap out of it and said with a smile, "Du Xi, you've come to Suiyuan; Tang Ye is injured, so I came over to see him."

Du Xi smiled gracefully, "Sister Lin, please come in!"

Seeing Cheng Lin arrive, Tang Ye walked out of the kitchen and said with a smile, "Sister Lin, you've come at just the right time; let's have lunch together in a bit."

Cheng Lin chuckled, "Making a wounded man cook, how embarrassing."

Tang Ye said with a smile, "You and Du Xi chat for a while. We can eat in half an hour."

Seeing Cheng Lin and Tang Ye interacting so naturally, the doubts in Du Xi's heart gradually vanished.

She trusted Tang Ye deeply; if a man were to have a change of heart, there would be no stopping him—it all depended on the man's own conscience.

Given Tang Ye's circumstances, surely many people would have a favorable impression of him.

As for Cheng Lin, she definitely had a favorable impression of Tang Ye.

However, Du Xi believed that the two of them would keep their emotions in check.

Because Tang Ye and Cheng Lin were the same type of people.

They had firm goals and bottom lines.

Seeing Du Xi appear, Cheng Lin suddenly felt as though she were quite redundant.

However, she still forced herself to suppress her true emotions and chatted with Du Xi as if nothing were wrong.

After finishing the meal, Cheng Lin said her goodbyes and left.

Du Xi took the initiative to wash the dishes, then sat by Tang Ye's side and gently linked her arm with his.

The two leaned against each other, enjoying the rare quiet.

Deep in her heart, Du Xi told herself over and over again.

Tang Ye belonged to her, and no one could take him away.
