Chapter 606: Thank Goodness You Were Here This Time!
The moment Ma Xiangtian received the call, he also felt a sense of relief.
Over these past few days, quite a few people had been applying pressure on him.
More importantly, after interrogation, there was truly no evidence to be found of Sun Hai committing a crime.
While Sun Hai had indeed hired quite a few former convicts, according to what he had learned from the local patrol officer, those individuals were not people who were guilty of heinous crimes or incorrigible.
Ma Xiangtian walked into the detention room and saw the haggard-looking Sun Hai.
"Sun Hai, you can go now."
Sun Hai looked at Ma Xiangtian in surprise and mocked himself, "Director Ma, it wouldn't be that I've barely left before being dragged back in, would it? You'd better make sure."
Ma Xiangtian understood that Sun Hai was using this method to vent the dissatisfaction in his heart, so he replied, "If you really had a problem, we would never let you go. Whether we arrest you in the future depends on your specific conduct; as long as you don't break the law, we naturally won't arrest you."
Sun Hai flashed a smile at Ma Xiangtian.
The smile was strange, making Ma Xiangtian's old face burn.
He was also helpless; after all, he had to follow the arrangements of County Party Secretary Shen Mingcheng.
Once Sun Hai got his phone, he dialed Liu Fang's number immediately.
The call was answered at once, and Liu Fang's choked-up voice came through the receiver: "Where did you go?"
Sun Hai no longer had the energy for the wisecracking he had used at the bureau, and he said in a hoarse voice, "I ran into some trouble, but don't worry, it's all resolved. I'm sorry, I missed the important moment. You've worked hard, my wife!"
"As long as you're okay!" Liu Fang paused, then added, "Both babies are very well-behaved."
Sun Hai urged, "You are still in your postpartum recovery period, and you're a new mother, so you need to touch your phone less. Let's hang up for now; I'm coming to see you right away."
After hanging up the phone, Liu Fang wiped the corners of her eyes and said softly to Du Xi, "Sun Hai called me; he's on his way here."
Du Xi also breathed a sigh of relief: "You've given the Sun family such beautiful babies. He'll have to spend his whole life making it up to you."
Just as Sun Hai was preparing to hail a taxi to the hospital, his phone suddenly rang.
After connecting, Cai Meifen's voice came through: "I just received a call from County Magistrate Tang saying you've been released. Where are you now?"
Sun Hai replied, "I'm at the entrance of the County Public Security Bureau, planning to take a taxi back to Hanzhou."
Cai Meifen said hurriedly, "Wait there; I'll have Lao Shu take you back to Hanzhou."
Sun Hai smiled and declined, "There's no need to make Lao Shu take a trip; it's too much trouble."
Cai Meifen insisted, "No, I won't allow you to refuse."
Sun Hai sighed, "Alright then."
Cai Meifen said with a smile, "I always used to think the company was the same with or without you, but after this incident, I realized I can do without anyone, but I can't do without you."
Sun Hai teased, "Are you confessing to me? I'm a married man and a father of two, so don't go getting any ideas."
Cai Meifen rolled her eyes: "You get carried away after just two compliments? I need to hurry and message Lao Shu; I'm done chatting with you."
Sun Hai chuckled twice.
After being cooped up in the bureau for so long, he could finally breathe the air of freedom.
After waiting by the roadside for about ten minutes, a black BMW pulled up.
Sun Hai recognized this as Cai Meifen's car. Lao Shu stepped out from the driver's seat, opened the rear door, and said with a smile, "Manager Sun, sorry to have kept you waiting. Get in."
Sun Hai sat in the back and adjusted to a comfortable position, and Lao Shu handed him a cigarette.
Sun Hai's eyes lit up, but then, as if thinking of something, he firmly pushed it back.
Lao Shu looked at him in surprise, his eyes filled with a bit of disappointment and bewilderment.
Fearing that Lao Shu would misunderstand and think he was looking down on the cigarette, Sun Hai explained quickly, "Lao Shu, I've decided to quit smoking."
Lao Shu knew that Sun Hai had a massive nicotine addiction and was always seen with a cigarette in his mouth at the company.
"Manager Sun, I feel terrible about this. If I hadn't been provoked and you hadn't stood up for me, this wouldn't have blown up into such a big deal and caused you to suffer like this. If you have any grievances, feel free to scold me; don't hold it in like this!"
Sun Hai laughed heartily: "Lao Shu, you're overthinking it. Being detained definitely isn't pleasant, but these past two days have actually been a good thing for me. I used to be so addicted to smoking, but I haven't had a single one in two days, and didn't I make it through? My wife gave birth to two daughters for me, and I've decided to quit smoking for them. This special experience over the last two days is a perfect start."
Lao Shu finally realized what was happening and hurriedly offered his congratulations: "Then I must congratulate you! Sigh, it's such a pity that you weren't by their side when the two daughters were born because of this."
Sun Hai leaned back and comforted him: "Lao Shu, you are honest and loyal. The matter is in the past, so don't take it to heart. Just keep working hard at Haichen Company and don't have any psychological burden; I will be everyone's strongest backing."
Lao Shu, a grown man, felt his eyes redden and his blood boil at these words.
He said in a hoarse voice, "Boss Sun, don't you worry. We all know that meeting you is a rare opportunity. From now on, we've entrusted our lives to you, and we will definitely serve you with all our hearts."
Feeling Lao Shu's emotions, Sun Hai smiled and painted a picture of the future: "Don't look at Haichen Company as small now; I have big plans to build it into the largest transport engineering company in the entire city. You are all founding veterans; once the company scales up, I will issue shares to you. By then, everyone will not only have a fixed salary but also year-end dividends."
Lao Shu was clearly sold on this, saying excitedly, "That's great! Following Boss Sun, there's no way we can go wrong."
Over an hour later, the car arrived at the hospital.
Sun Hai told Lao Shu to head back first, while he walked toward the inpatient department. Just as he reached the entrance of the hallway, he saw Tang Ye.
In an instant, Sun Hai's eyes turned red, and tears of grievance welled up uncontrollably.
Tang Ye could understand his feelings.
The pressure of being interrogated at the Public Security Bureau for the past two days had been immense.
He took a tissue from his bag and handed it over: "You're a grown man crying like this; aren't you afraid of being laughed at?"
Sun Hai wiped away his tears and said with emotion, "Sigh, Tang Seng, thank goodness you were here this time, otherwise I really wouldn't have known what to do!"
He knew in his heart that if it weren't for Tang Ye and Du Xi, Liu Fang would have surely collapsed long ago facing childbirth all by herself.
Tang Ye had gone to great lengths to help him get out of trouble, and it went without saying that Tang Ye must have put in a tremendous amount of effort.
Furthermore, the note he found in his boxed meal with the information about the children's birth had given him immense hope.
In short, it was only in this time of crisis that Sun Hai truly realized how important Tang Ye was.
Tang Ye accompanied Sun Hai into the hospital room.
As soon as Liu Fang saw Sun Hai, she immediately burst into loud sobs.
Sun Hai hurried over, pulled her tightly into his arms, and comforted her: "Wife, please don't cry. If you shed tears during your postpartum recovery, it's easy to get cataracts when you get older."
Liu Fang was amused by him and tapped him lightly on the chest: "If I have any ailments when I get old, it'll all be your fault."
Tang Ye and Du Xi exchanged a glance, and smiles appeared on both of their lips.
