Chapter 692: He's a Natural-Born Official!
After hanging up on Xia Hong, Du Chengfeng dialed Xiao Qin's number.
Xiao Qin had just received Du Chengfeng's call and assumed he had another social engagement that evening, calling specifically to tell her not to prepare his dinner.
"Going out for social engagements again?"
Du Chengfeng laughed and interrupted her guess: "It's not a social engagement; I have good news to tell you. Your son-in-law has achieved results in Dayu County. If nothing goes wrong, you'll be able to see a related report on the television news tonight."
"Really?"
Xiao Qin could not believe her ears.
"Absolutely true! I just received a call from Xia Hong; the briefing will be sent down later." Du Chengfeng's voice was filled with joy. "You can finally set your mind at ease now, right? This child has strong adaptability."
Xiao Qin, however, could not help but feel a pang of heartache.
"Tang Ye must have suffered quite a bit. When Du Xi video-called him before, I saw that his face had become so thin there was no meat left on it; it was clear he wasn't eating or sleeping well out there. He's all alone in such a far-off place, with no one to take care of him, and he still has to worry about so many work matters."
Du Chengfeng mused to himself that Xiao Qin truly cherished Tang Ye like her own biological son.
"For Tang Ye, being able to participate in this cross-province exchange is an important test."
"Looking at it now, not only did he complete his first answer sheet quite well, he effectively handed it in ahead of schedule."
"Although the 'questions' were very difficult, he turned in a perfect score. I believe things will only get better from here on out."
Xiao Qin sighed softly: "Actually, sometimes I wonder, what is the point of being an official? Putting oneself through such turmoil."
Du Chengfeng paused for a moment, then replied earnestly: "Everyone has their own mission in their heart. Tang Ye is a natural-born official, and furthermore, he enjoys his current state."
Xiao Qin quietly wiped the corners of her eyes, brushing away tears that had spilled out inadvertently, and her tone became lighter.
"Alright, alright, I'm just being too sentimental. A real man should go out and venture, and strive for himself."
"Our daughter's body isn't suitable for carrying a baby right now, so this two-year exchange can be considered a buffer opportunity."
Du Chengfeng was speechless for a moment. His wife was just too sentimental, so he teased: "The angle from which you consider problems is never on the same channel as mine. I talk to you about his career, and you talk to me about having children."
Xiao Qin suddenly lowered her voice: "This child is working so hard, I always feel it has something to do with us."
Du Chengfeng gave a puzzled "Oh?"
"He has always wanted to prove that he is worthy of our Du Xi."
"When I first met him, my attitude toward him was indeed poor. Now that I think about it, perhaps I hurt his self-esteem back then."
"Later, I kept trying to make amends, but once some scars are left, how could they disappear so easily..."
"Do you think Tang Ye might still hold a grudge against me in his heart?"
Xiao Qin's tone carried a hint of guilt.
Du Chengfeng couldn't help but laugh out loud upon hearing this: "You are really overthinking it! Tang Ye is not the type of narrow-minded child who holds grudges. Even if there was a little friction back then, it's long gone."
Xiao Qin had not let it go yet and continued: "I always feel he wants to prove that Du Xi's choice in him was not wrong. Not just to prove it to us, but also to prove it to my brother and the others!"
Du Chengfeng sighed softly, his tone becoming more solemn: "If a person wants to grow, they must have a firm goal pushing them forward. Although Tang Ye's inner heart is strong enough, having some external drive is a good thing for him."
After hanging up on Du Chengfeng, Xiao Qin could not wait a moment longer and immediately dialed her daughter Du Xi's number.
"Daughter, do you have to work overtime tonight?"
Du Xi was bewildered and asked suspiciously: "Mom, why are you asking this suddenly? Is something the matter?"
Xiao Qin smiled and revealed the answer: "Your father just told me that Tang Ye has achieved results in Dayu County! The television news today might broadcast a related report!"
Du Xi's voice brightened: "Really? Then I will try my best to come back early!"
Around three in the afternoon, Du Xi was busy with her work when she was called into the office by Bureau Chief Zhu.
Bureau Chief Zhu took a briefing from his drawer, handed it to Du Xi, and said with a smile: "This is a briefing just sent over by the Municipal Organization Department. Take a look; it concerns Tang Ye."
Du Xi hurriedly took it and quickly browsed through it.
When she saw that the protagonist in the briefing was her husband, a sense of pride surged up in her heart.
Seeing her reading it so intently, Bureau Chief Zhu couldn't help but remark: "Little Du, it's not easy for you and Tang Ye to live apart. If you have any needs in your life, just bring them up to the organization; we will provide care."
Du Xi suppressed the excitement in her heart: "Thank you for your concern, Bureau Chief Zhu. Please rest assured, I can overcome these difficulties! By the way, Bureau Chief Zhu... could you let me take this briefing back to look at?"
Bureau Chief Zhu paused for a moment, then waved his hand with a smile: "The original copy has to be posted on the public notice board. Why don't you go make a copy first?"
Du Xi's face flushed slightly, and she quickly said: "Then let me take the original first, and I will return it to you later after I finish copying it. Is that alright?"
"Of course!" Bureau Chief Zhu was also happy for Du Xi!
As soon as she got off work, Du Xi hurried home.
Xiao Qin had already prepared dinner. The mother and daughter ate hurriedly and then kept watch in front of the television, afraid of missing the report.
They waited like that until the brief news segment at the very end.
Finally, there was news about Tang Ye.
The female host smiled and reported in a relaxed tone:
"News from this station: Our city has achieved remarkable results in responding to the cross-province youth Cadre Exchange Program."
"Tang Ye, former Executive Deputy County Magistrate of Suiyuan County, during his exchange period in the National-level Poverty-stricken County of Dayu, successfully introduced an anthracite project with an investment exceeding 200 million yuan to the local area after months of effort."
"This is a major breakthrough achieved by this cross-province Talent Exchange Plan..."
The brief news segment ended in just over a minute.
Xiao Qin muttered with some disappointment: "How come there wasn't even a picture? Just one sentence, that's too perfunctory!"
Du Xi, on the other hand, was more open-minded and comforted her mother with a smile: "Mom, Tang Ye is an Exchange Cadre now. Being able to have such a brief segment on the municipal station news is already not easy."
Xiao Qin realized she was right and immediately urged Du Xi: "Then hurry up and video call him! Ask him how he managed to pull off this project and have him tell us all about it."
Seeing her mother more anxious than herself, Du Xi couldn't help but laugh or cry: "Mom, why are you more anxious than me?"
Xiao Qin reached out and tapped Du Xi's forehead lightly, chiding: "You two are living apart now; you must seize every opportunity to stay in touch!"
Du Xi smiled and agreed, then turned and walked into her room, opened her laptop, and logged into QQ.
As soon as she went online, she saw Tang Ye's avatar lit up, showing he was online.
She immediately sent a video call request.
Without waiting a few seconds, Tang Ye answered...
