Chapter 7: Rain?!
Outside the eaves, a torrential downpour.
"This rain... is too abnormal!"
"From a temporal standpoint, it's also too coincidental!"
Su Ming squinted slightly, daring not to act rashly.
Eye of Truth gave no response.
He does have an umbrella in his bag.
But whether this rain is dangerous, he can't say now, and he certainly won't risk his life to test it.
After all, even the altar's appearance has happened.
This sudden weather shift looks abnormal no matter how you see it.
If this rain is corrosive, or can infect something.
Then rushing out now would be pure suicide.
Su Ming leaned against the wall and took out his phone.
The signal is still okay.
He opened the forum he had been scrolling through earlier.
Sure enough!
On the forum, one after another, posts about the rain popped up.
He's not the only one who thought of it!
Within just a few minutes, everyone's discussion topics were completely different from before.
Earlier hot topics were various sacrificial items, or where the Black Light Incident had broken out again.
But now, they're oddly consistent.
"It's raining! Is there thunder and rain over there too?!"
"Damn! I was just about to sacrifice my years‑old collectible figure when a bolt of lightning struck, almost taking me away!"
"Brothers, this rain is definitely problematic! Don't get soaked! Watch out for mutations!"
"Wooo, I got rained on, I don't want to turn into a zombie, I haven't even touched my sister's hand yet!"
"Life shouldn't have regrets! Want a beautiful sister dd to go crazy before mutating!"
The posts refresh at an absurd speed.
Panic and confusion spread wildly across the internet.
Su Ming's heart sank a little more.
Behind this rain, there must be some unknown Rule hidden.
Many people were already guarding the altar, hoping to see if after midnight they could refresh their sacrificial counts!
The result was they got drenched like a drowned chicken.
"If this rain really can infect people..."
Su Ming dared not think further.
Soon, a bold, red‑highlighted post made him pause his breathing.
"Damn! Something huge happened! The altar's gone!"
Su Ming quickly clicked into it.
The thread owner sounded agitated, even a bit incoherent.
"Brothers! I was just waiting by the altar to refresh the count!"
"When the rain came down, I was damn fast!"
"Snap! I immediately opened my umbrella and kept going!"
"Guess what happened?"
"Hey! When the rain touched that altar, it was like pouring acid on it!"
"In less than three seconds, it evaporated instantly!"
Below, replies instantly surged past ten thousand.
"WTF? Is it real? So bizarre?"
"Really! I saw it too! The altar in our neighborhood vanished right before my eyes!"
"Confirmed! The one here is the same!"
"I get it! This rain is here to cleanse these altars? Does that mean the sacrificial era is ending?"
"End it? No way! He dares! I haven't even released the blue light yet! I just prepared a bunch of offerings!"
All sorts of speculation kept pouring out endlessly.
Some think it's the end of the sacrificial era.
Others sensationally claim the rain will melt people too, even causing a biochemical crisis.
Su Ming stared at the chaotic messages, his mind racing.
The altar, melted by the rain?
He instinctively turned back, looking toward the center of the workshop.
There, it was empty.
The altar that had been made of countless tiny fans had vanished without a trace.
"But... that spot can't even get rained on!"
"Could it be that it's not the rain that makes the altar disappear..."
Su Ming's pupils contracted.
"But every night after midnight, this altar will refresh itself!"
Rain—just a parasitic phenomenon?
A ruse?
A signal meant to confuse everyone?
"Still not quite right..."
Su Ming shook his head.
This ruse doesn't seem to have any necessity to exist.
But suddenly, Su Ming's hair stood on end!
"This!"
Where's that thing?!
The corpse that should have been lying in a pool of blood.
Vanished without a trace!
As if it had never appeared!
Su Ming's mind went blank.
He could be sure that absolutely no one had just been here.
In this abandoned workshop, besides himself, there was not a single other living person.
A corpse could not possibly grow legs and walk away on its own.
There were no dragging marks at the scene either.
Then...
The Unique explanation.
Su Ming lifted his head and looked at the rain still pouring outside.
"At midnight each day, it rains."
"During that time, the altar disappears."
"The corpse... will also disappear."
"Rain signifies cleansing."
"It washes away all traces from the previous day."
"But what it washes away is not sin..."
"Instead it encourages us to commit crimes!"
"To slaughter!"
Su Ming swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
Because, no evidence left!
Yesterday you killed someone; just endure until midnight.
When the rain falls, all traces disappear.
Even during the whole rainy night, the corpse could vanish outright!
No surveillance.
No evidence left.
It is the perfect environment tailor‑made for murder and theft!
This world is forcing everyone, in the harshest way, to adapt to the new Rule.
Survival of the fittest.
The winner takes all!
"So... that's how it is..."
Su Ming leaned against the cold wall, looking at his own hands.
These hands had once held a knife.
He used that knife to kill someone.
But this world tells him—
"You didn't!"
Su Ming opened the mobile forum, hoping to see if anyone else had discovered the secret.
He refreshed for a long time.
But every post still focused on the issues of 【altar disappearance】 and 【whether rain is harmful】.
Not a single person mentioned the corpse.
"Indeed..."
Su Ming knew clearly.
In this vast world, there are certainly more people who have found this out than just him.
But, like the Rule of 【murder and loot】,
they all chose silence.
"Huh..."
Su Ming exhaled a long breath and brushed the dust off himself.
His gaze had already returned to calm.
Since the Rule is thus, what he must do is adapt to it quickly and then exploit it.
Rather than here cursing the heavens.
The rain shows no sign of weakening at all.
"The current problem is how to get out of here."
This rain, most likely poses no danger.
Of course, he might be wrong.
After weighing the pros and cons, he still decided to set off.
First, the earlier golden light, though not as noisy as the Red Light, didn't cause as much commotion.
But the whole factory area was bright as daylight, and the target was still somewhat large.
He also couldn't guarantee whether anyone was approaching from this side.
Second, he still kept the Dragon Egg at home in mind!
That thing is an unstable factor and must be dealt with properly.
Having thought this far.
Su Ming took a rain umbrella from his backpack, his gaze level with the oddly heavy rain outside the eaves, and took a deep breath.
"Ready to go home!"
