Chapter 220: Wali Wusi
The merciless rain of arrows howled up and down the city walls, like a fierce autumn wind sweeping over the battlefield. The warriors and militia on both sides fell like leaves in the autumn wind, withering at the foot of the towering walls.
The defending army's offensive gradually weakened.
The shamans' spells killed many defenders, and several sections of the walls had become dead zones marked "no living entry."
If those spores hadn't still been spreading in the air, deterring the kingdom army from climbing up, they might have already breached Pankuru City's defenses.
Nevertheless, after the kingdom army gathered its forces, the defenders fell into decline, and after the enemy brought in a massive siege ram, they hit a new low.
During the previous night, the kingdom army moved the siege ram several times, each time destroyed at once by a suddenly appearing giant dragon, so they ceased further attempts.
But for some reason, this time they were not afraid.
The siege ram quickly approached the gate, and the defenders despairingly discovered that the red dragon that had always saved them had vanished.
The deep war drums beat fiercely again, marking the charge. The soaring gongs sounded, stoking the kingdom army's killing intent, and they shouted in unison.
"Fight for the gods, die for the gods!"
Then the kingdom troops, faces aflame with frenzy, surged forward. Amid the temporarily halted arrow rain atop the city, they quickly scaled the walls, slaying the soldiers blocking the way, and within moments were on the ramparts.
At the same time, the gate on the ground began to bear the siege ram's impact.
One strike, two strikes, three strikes.
Soon, the gate shattered!
The soldiers poured into the gate like a tide, but the kingdom troops on the wall suddenly shouted anxiously.
"Scatter! Scatter quickly!!!"
The soldiers behind were clueless, but those at the front stared ahead with terror on their faces.
A massive red dragon lay silently at the road's end that met the gate, its gaping maw like a blood‑filled abyss, with tiny flames flickering at its throat.
"Boom!!!"
A terrifying pillar of fire erupted from the dragon's mouth, racing along the road toward the gate.
Hundreds of soldiers blocked at the gate, before they could see what was happening, were ignited by the rushing flames, turning into fireballs within the scorching, molten metal.
The wails rose and fell; the dreadful dragon breath stretched hundreds of meters, incinerating the soldiers behind the gate completely. Because of the crowd density, at least a thousand perished in Di Luo Na Ou's flames.
"That demon! The demon has appeared!!"
The red dragon sighed at the cries, wanting to flee, but as it tried to run, it was captured alive.
"The red dragon's breath, indeed quite powerful."
An intrigued voice came from above Di Luo Na Ou, silver hair and violet eyes—none other than Naimi Xisi.
Di Luo Na Ou sneered, saying nothing. When he tried to flee, the human Ge Lei Luo had brought his master, causing him to be captured on the spot; now he dares not speak further for fear of punishment.
Naimi Xisi gazed at the road ravaged by flames, waved his hand, and soon over a thousand vanguard cavalry appeared behind the dragon, forming a human wall that blocked the road.
Pankuru had three roads leading to the central pyramid; Naimi Xisi stood on the shortest, directly facing the gate. The flames annihilated many soldiers, but soon countless others poured in through the gate, and those who had climbed the walls now entered the city, splitting into three columns to advance.
The other two roads had the fewest troops, while the road where the red dragon stood became the main target, which surprised Naimi Xisi.
He had assumed that seeing such a huge red dragon would make the soldiers retreat and attack via the other two roads; he had even set many magical traps there, waiting for them to trigger.
Unexpectedly, the soldiers chose this path.
"Hmph!"
Realizing they were despised, Di Luo Na Ou snorted, about to spew more flame, when an enormous surge of magic rushed from the sky; the next moment, the red dragon's body flashed and vanished.
"What…! 【Maze Spell】?!" Naimi Xisi, having lost his mount, fell to the ground, startled.
Even though he, as the Juan Ce Long master of all Conjuration Spells, could not yet wield it, Naimi Xisi instantly identified the spell that removed the red dragon as an Eight‑Ring Conjuration spell, 【Maze Spell】!
This spell is extremely powerful; it temporarily banishes its target to an interdimensional maze, from which the red dragon can only return by escaping the maze or when the spell's duration ends.
Naimi Xisi looked up and saw a man in a black robe standing in the sky, his finger pointing at him, with a lingering magical glow at his fingertip.
It was the spell he had released.
!
After Wali Wusi dealt with the red dragon, he glanced indifferently at the silver‑haired man on the ground, a hint of interest flashing in his eyes.
How could he stand atop an ancient red dragon? What was the Mage's relationship with the dragon?
He was curious, eager to discover the secret that allowed the other to get along so harmoniously with the Five‑Colored Evil Dragon.
The notion that he might be the red dragon's master was a laughable thought that had never crossed Wali Wusi's mind.
"Frelen?" Wali Wusi asked, eyeing Naimi Xisi's pale skin uncertainly.
Naimi Xisi saw that the sky‑borne stranger not only used 【Maze Spell】 to make the red dragon vanish, but also knew he came from Frelen.
Naimi Xisi, noting the similarly pale skin, realized the man was a Frelen like Varosan who had luckily arrived on the other continent before the Golden Legion's arrival.
"Indeed, I belong to the Am Empire's Golden Legion, Mage. Why are you helping these natives?"
Naimi Xisi naturally unfurled the Am Empire's banner, confident that any Frelen native would know the Am name.
Wali Wusi was startled. Am Empire? Golden Legion? What did that mean?
He knew the Am Empire as the strongest nation in the Sword Bay region, but what was the Golden Legion?
Wali Wusi realized that in the twenty‑plus years since he arrived on the new continent, Frelen must have undergone monumental changes.
"Sorry, long ago I set sail and got separated from my friends, ending up on the continent of Maztek. I'm not very clear about the Golden Legion you mention," Wali Wusi said, shaking his head apologetically.
Naimi Xisi gave him a deep look; a Mage capable of casting 【Maze Spell】 was no ordinary talent—stranded on another continent? He didn't believe it.
"The Golden Legion is the expeditionary force the Am Empire sent to this continent, also a coalition of forces from the Sword Bay area. The Nikesalan region will soon fall under the Golden Legion's rule; I suggest you release the red dragon at once," Naimi Xisi said with a light laugh.
Wali Wusi's heart tightened at the news—The Golden Legion was coming here?
No! The Dragon Mother's mission isn't finished; the Am Empire's people aren't as easy to fool as these natives, and if they discover my true identity—
Wali Wusi's eyes flashed with ferocity; he silently resolved that he could not allow the Am people to gain a foothold here, lest they jeopardize his mission!
