Chapter 34: Mana Shockburst

~7 min read 1,374 words

Naimi Xisi looked at Sgena's heroic bearing with a hint of envy; under normal circumstances, even if he reached the Ancient Dragon, he probably wouldn't have such power.

"But I have gained even greater power," Naimi Xisi extended his dragon claw, dragon language rippling in the air, mana gathering in his claw.

A ball of fire coalesced in his dragon claw, then fell to the ground like a meteor, the instant it touched the Monster Army.

"Boom!!"

A fierce explosion, soaring tongues of fire, wildly blooming flames devoured countless monsters; within a twenty‑meter radius a vacuum formed, the fire burned the air dry, and only after a few seconds did the smell of charred flesh drift outward with the air.

But it wasn't over yet; at Naimi Xisi's current chanting speed, it would take only about four seconds to release a Fireball Technique.

One explosion after another appeared beneath his dragon wings, and he only slowed after casting ten Fireball Techniques.

"Hmm, there are still eighty Third-circle Spell slots left, better conserve them," Naimi Xisi thought frugally.

He opened his massive maw, continuously exhaling; three compact spherical bolts of lightning burst the moment they touched a creature, then formed a huge electromagnetic field.

The dazzling white energy field instantly tore and roasted the bodies of countless monsters.

After expelling his breath in one go, Naimi Xisi began to spin in the sky, feigning a fight to save his strength; he couldn't help feeling fortunate that his monsters faced such a merciful opponent.

He should note that even his dependents were hidden in the city, not brought out! He feared wasting his elite Shadow Sword Warriors on those foolish Gray Dwarves and orcs.

But the many monsters below him thought otherwise.

Those successive explosions took the lives of seven or eight hundred monsters, and demonic dragon language echoed in their ears.

The power of magic always inspires fear; they gradually began to keep away from the area occupied by the silver True Dragon.

A Necromancer in the distance grew pale; the appearance of two True Dragons was unexpected, especially the one in the sky, which seemed to be a Juan Ce Long?

But he had no idea that a Juan Ce Long possessed the supernatural ability to casually cast Fireball Techniques! Damn, how many Spell Slots does that dragon have?

The Necromancer, as a matter of course, reasoned logically: aside from the opponent being a Ninth-circle Spellcaster, another possibility is that he is a prodigy with extremely high Charisma.

Only a creature with at least 25 Charisma points could have so many Spell Slots! That means the dragon's grasp of mana is probably as easy as drinking water.

What is called Charisma is not the outward attractiveness people think of; Charisma refers to a creature's affinity for the Magic Net. The higher the Charisma, the stronger the attraction to the Magic Net, and the more easily they can wield magic.

This is why Sorcerers can use magic without study; those born with innate affinity for the Magic Net can, even while lying still, manipulate the Net through the inheritance in their bloodline.

The Necromancer produced a black pentagram-shaped gem, but after a hesitation he put it back away.

He intended to keep it to deal with that troublesome orc!

A level‑12 berserker's Physical Strength is already terrifying beyond ordinary imagination.

More importantly, the Warrior also possesses his unique exemplar power.

It is not yet time for him to play his trump card.

The Necromancer, with a snake‑like eerie, sticky voice, called to his disciples: "You, go help deal with those two dragons."

Behind him, two Drow clad in black robes stepped forward, respectfully saying, "Yes, Master."

The two dragons raging on the battlefield suddenly felt their fur stand on end, a dangerous intuition surging in their minds.

But it was already too late.

Two gray, death‑streaked rays struck them at light speed.

Naimi Xisi felt his entire strength vanish wildly, like a bucket with a leak. Even his wings could no longer sustain his flight in the sky.

The silver giant dragon fell from the sky; in the final second before impact, he activated his ability, a massive telekinetic force supporting his body, averting a shattered demise.

He looked up; among the pile of Undead, Sgena was also suffering. Relying on Physical Strength, she fared slightly better than Naimi Xisi, yet each swing of her dragon claw grew slow and laborious, and soon she was panting. "Damn, it's a Weak Mana Spell!" Sgena snarled in anger; even with her adolescent dragon's magic resistance, it would take at least a minute to break the curse.

The Weak Mana Spell is a fourth‑circle Necromancy spell; those afflicted suffer an unstoppable curse, their strength draining from the whole body, even a single movement leaving them gasping.

The stronger the Physical Strength of a creature, the less impact it feels, and the shorter the duration.

For a physical weakling like Naimi Xisi, he could not even take two steps at this point.

Naimi Xisi glanced at the Monster Army gathering around and the Shadow Sword Legion rushing in from afar, and sneered.

He is not a brute who can rely only on Physical Strength.

He strained to lift his claw, activating psychic‑controlled Magic Ring; massive stones and corpses rose, tracing elegant arcs in the air, crushing the oncoming foes.

Several Shadow Swords, moving at extreme speed, constantly leapt over obstacles, while the boulders could only strike their afterimages. These elite Drow wielded razor‑sharp magical longswords; outsiders would have no doubt they could tear any creature's hide.

"Fifty meters, forty meters, thirty meters, twenty meters, ten meters, five meters," a Drow, moving like a shadow across the battlefield, grew increasingly excited as the giant dragon drew nearer.

He could hardly wait to thrust his longsword into the giant dragon's body, bathe in the True Dragon's blood, and thereby ascend!

When only five meters remained, he seemed to already see victory arriving.

But the silver giant dragon suddenly stared at him; in the final instant, what flashed before its eyes was endless red.

Mana Shockburst! The Psychic Dragon's supernatural ability, a unique talent of the Mind Flayer.

Mana transformed into a red energy wave, enveloping the Drow; the violent oscillation pierced his brain like a centipede, violently churning the brain matter.

Psychic Ability utterly destroyed the pitiable Drow's mind; all his consciousness fell into a void along with the Mana.

Naimi Xisi casually unleashed a Mana Shockburst, blasting the approaching Drow into a fool; without external interference, they would remain stunned for at least three minutes before recovering.

The Juan Ce Long extended a claw and, at a leisurely pace, snapped his fingers.

"Boom!"

A Ring‑Transformation ability—Control Fire.

The ability controlled successive clusters of small flames that ignited the bodies of the Dark Elves; their dulled consciousness could not feel the slow burning pain.

Yet their bodily instincts twitched repeatedly.

Allowing those Dark Elves to be slowly incinerated, Naimi Xisi continued to focus his energy on the other monsters.

The alternating use of the psychic‑controlled Magic Ring and Mana Shockburst let Naimi Xisi handle the monsters' assault with virtually no spell resources spent.

But he kept his focus on the distance, preventing the mysterious spellcaster who might release a Weak Mana Spell from appearing.

Yet Naimi Xisi's worry was unnecessary; the two spellcasters he feared were now suffering severe headaches.

The Weak Mana Spell is already the strongest offensive spell within the fourth circle that the Necromancy can command; a Necromancer's advantage lies in creating and controlling undead, and laying various curses.

But undead, that pitiful attack power, cannot even pierce a black dragon's scales; curses are likewise limited against a True Dragon's magic resistance.

You can't even see that even a curse like the Weak Ability Technique is useless against them!

The two Necromancers suffered a mental breakdown, inwardly cursing the instructor who had cast them out, but there was nothing they could do—they had to figure it out themselves.

A Necromancer walked toward Naimi Xisi, his mind constantly beginning to search for spells he could use at this moment.

But as a Mage specialized in necromancy, he hardly knew any other school of magic besides Abjuration.
