Chapter 5: Combat and Mind Control
Erhuan Curse Method Series spell—Spider Web Technique! A ball of white thread appeared before the man in the black robe, and before he could register a shocked expression, it turned into countless sticky white strands that bound him tightly.
True Dragon!!
The Invisibility Spell's effect vanished as it was cast, and the Barbarian Soldier looked at the white dragon in the sky with greed and fear, letting out a low growl.
Naimi Xisi had no time to mock the Hyena Werewolf's ridiculous delusion; he saw the man in the black robe struggling to lift his finger slightly and begin chanting a spell.
But Juan Ce Long had no intention of giving him a chance.
Dragon language is the script of magic; in fact, most human spells are formed by crude imitation of dragon language, and as the ancestor of spells, casting with dragon language is more than three times faster than a normal human reciting a spell.
The man in the black robe hadn't even finished his lengthy chant when a brief utterance of dragon language had already formed the next spell.
Erhuan Curse Method Series spell—Dagger Cloud.
Two clusters of blade‑shaped crimson mist appeared on either side of the man, advancing steadily; a silver‑glinting shield suddenly materialized, blocking the mist—it was a Shield Technique.
However, the effect of a Second-circle Spell is limited; after just two seconds, the sharp crimson mist sliced through the shield.
The man in the black robe could only swallow the unfinished spell; he strained with all his might, finally breaking free of the Spider Web Technique's bindings, but his left hand, raised too forcefully, slipped into the mist.
Splatter!
Ah!!!
The man's left hand was instantly severed at the wrist; the entire left arm was torn into scattered flesh pieces within the mist. He screamed in agony, staggered back onto the ground, yet luckily avoided the two advancing mist clusters.
He immediately produced a healing bandage, quickly wrapped it around his wrist; the massive blood loss made him feel dizzy and light‑headed.
But the next moment, before he could rest, another spell was already prepared.
Erhuan Curse Method Series spell—Malf's Corrosive Arrow! As a lump of green liquid fell from the sky, a pungent odor filled the air, and the man in the black robe shouted with anger and fear, "Hyena Werewolf! I command you to protect me!!"
A faint glow emanated from a black ring on the man's right middle finger, and one Hyena Werewolf, its body out of control, lunged fiercely at the man, blocking him.
Zzzzz
The liquid struck the Hyena Werewolf's chest; its terrible corrosiveness quickly shattered his breastplate, and with the creature's scream, the flesh of his chest was carbonized by the strong acid, turning into blackened rotten meat.
But the Hyena Werewolf, true to its cruel, bloodthirsty nature, despite the grievous injury, instantly used its sharp claws to tear the corroded breastplate apart and then ripped away the rotting tissue.
Miraculously, such a severe wound immediately showed faint, writhing traces of healing! Naimi Xisi couldn't help but be amazed; Hyena Werewolves lack such potent regenerative ability—this must be the spell's effect.
He looked at the ring on the black‑robed man's right hand, where a powerful magical force was emanating, controlling the bodies of those Hyena Werewolves.
Naimi Xisi sneered, "Control? No one can surpass the Mind Gem!"
An illusory flesh crown reappeared atop his head, and an unseen yellow gem radiated a dazzling light.
Juan Ce Long, his yellow vertical pupils like a demon's, stared intently at the five Hyena Werewolf Warriors; Mind Power surged into their minds like a burglar breaking in, snatching away the black‑robed man's control. The Mind Gem's controlling ability is unparalleled, but Naimi Xisi can only dominate beings no higher than his own level, so the robust, ferocious fifth‑rank Barbarian Soldier and the sixth‑rank Red‑robed Mage were beyond his control.
Even so, it was enough to astonish the black‑robed man.
Sensing the control link brutally erased by some force, he stepped back a few paces in shock, looking at the five down‑cast Hyena Werewolves.
And the Barbarian Soldier, still with a threatening tone, shouted loudly, "You damned useless lot, move!"
But there was no response.
The five towering Hyena Werewolf Warriors, muscles taut, yellow light gleaming in their eyes, moved in perfect unison as if five bodies of one person. They were controlled by Mind Power; their inner self‑awareness was suppressed, leaving only the instinct to obey orders.
"Human, what other tricks do you have for me to see?" Naimi Xisi raised a relaxed smile, looking at the outlaw attempting to sweep his lair.
The black‑robed man inhaled deeply, pulled back his hood, and in an instant his black robe turned vivid red; his bald head was covered with black tattoos, and even his previously shadowed face was now tattooed.
The Red‑robed Mage looked at Naimi Xisi coldly and said, "A juvenile Juan Ce Long is truly rare; I've only seen one in my mentor's books."
"You've already unleashed three Second-circle Spells; how much mana do you have left? When I kill you, I'll savor your dragon blood."
"Barbarian Soldier!" the Red‑robed Mage hissed ominously, "Hold these five Hyena Werewolves for me; I'll deal with that dragon. If you dare slack off, I'll skin you!"
The Barbarian Soldier, hearing the order, his eyes filled with resentment and malice, yet his body involuntarily raised his long sword and charged at his subordinates.
Bathed in moonlight, his body moved like a phantom among the tree shadows, instantly lunging before the Hyena Werewolves.
The five Hyena Werewolves reacted immediately; one raised his long sword to block his chest, but the Barbarian Soldier's mighty force hurled him and his sword several meters away.
The other Hyena Werewolves closed in, yet the Barbarian Soldier showed no fear.
The leader's long sword flashed with cold light, each swing stirring a gust of wind. His duel with the five warriors resembled a wild dance; every clash of blades sent sparks flying.
Although the Hyena Werewolf Warriors moved swiftly, they could never gain the upper hand against the leader's near‑berserk sword technique; each of his attacks carried unstoppable force, and within moments, two Hyena Werewolves had their arms cut off.
Naimi Xisi frowned; the Barbarian Soldier truly was unmatched by those three‑rank Hyena Werewolf Warriors, and at this rate, he feared he could single‑handedly eliminate the five Hyena Werewolves.
As another major profession, Warriors lack the flashy supernatural abilities that Spellcasters possess.
However, that does not mean Warriors are not powerful.
Warriors focus on honing their combat skills; by observing the evolutionary paths of powerful races, they devised a physical training method called "Lüdong." Each level breakthrough brings comprehensive improvements to their Physical Quality, and their bodily strength rivals that of non‑human monsters of the same rank.
Legendary‑rank Warriors can even be called "National Father."
A Mage of the same rank, when prepared, can toy with a Warrior to death without a scratch, but if a Mage and a Warrior meet by chance, the Mage is equally powerless before the Warrior.
Indeed, the Warrior has been strengthened.
