Chapter 86: Qing‑Foot Dragon Snake

~9 min read 1,703 words

On the Earth‑Horse‑Thorn mountains there are many lush forests; they were transplanted there by the Green Dragon when it first lived there, having ordered those Monster Dependents to move them.

The army marched through the forest, and occasionally a few pitiful goblins sleeping by the trees were kicked away by idle bored soldiers.

They shrieked and fled in all directions, causing everyone to burst into laughter.

In the center of the formation, the Mage, protected as if by the whole world, raised a hand and pointed at a small goblin; telekinetic force instantly snatched it up and moved it before him.

Along the way, aside from the Hyena Werewolf at the foot of the mountain, there were hardly any Monsters— a few monster spiders, a road demon— and otherwise only these cowardly fellows.

Naimi Xisi grew impatient; he accessed the goblin's memories, trying to locate where the Monsters in the mountains had gone.

"Oh? Interesting, no tigers in the mountain, the monkeys claim supremacy." Naimi Xisi chuckled, tossing the goblin aside; it frantically broke down, screaming and fleeing.

"What's happening?" Luo Jia, though unsure of the cause, could clearly see the goblin's dumbfounded expression as its memories were read.

Naimi Xisi tugged the reins; the phantom horse beneath him resumed moving, and he said leisurely, "A family of little bugs has occupied the nest abandoned by the Green Dragon; the Monsters are all there."

"Bugs?" Luo Jia was baffled, not knowing what he meant.

Beside them, Sgena gave Naimi Xisi a knowing look, curled his mouth and said, "Ah, it can't be those guys, can it? They really dared to occupy a place once lived in by a dragon?"

Naimi Xisi chuckled, "They really did it; it seems that Green Dragon has completely left."

The bewildered Luo Jia had no idea what they were discussing, but the army was about to reach the nest atop the mountain, the place where Ao Qi Wei Li Si once lingered amid Deep Poison.

"Stop!" Luo Jia gestured, whispering a reprimand.

He saw the scene atop the distant peak: several eagle‑bodied harpies hovered in the sky; below them stood a crude wooden gate flanked by two arrow towers, and a few goblins rode berserk wolves, sleeping soundly before the gate.

Naimi Xisi raised his hand before his chest, forming an eye shape, and whispered a chant.

Five Rings Divination spell — Peering Demon Eye.

Fifteen translucent magical orbs appeared beside Naimi Xisi, each containing an eye that opened; they floated in the air like airborne jellyfish, blending into the surrounding atmosphere.

The Mage flicked his wrist, and the demon eyes drifted swiftly toward the gate; the harpies aloft and the sleeping goblins did not notice these almost‑nonexistent eyes.

Naimi Xisi stared vacantly ahead, using the power of the demon eyes to peer behind the gate.

The massive plaza was scattered with countless goblins and Hyena Werewolves; shattered human limbs lay everywhere, and the pale bones bore faint marks of fang‑tooth bites.

A few gigantic trees stood at the entrance of the nest's far end; they were disguised twisted tree spirits, and fresh flesh and blood lay near their roots.

At the plaza's far end, a cavern carved into the cliff edge was pitch‑black; the demon eye penetrated it, a violet figure flashed by, then a bolt of lightning shot out, shattering the eye.

"So it was them after all," Naimi Xisi said, disgust evident in his eyes.

"We've been spotted; let's finish this quickly," Naimi Xisi said casually to Luo Jia, then rose and pointed at the distant wooden wall.

A cluster of sparks ignited at his fingertip with the chant; Mana and Divine Spell power surged into it, doubling its size instantly, and scorching heat radiated from his finger, making the surrounding soldiers feel searing heat.

The Fireball Technique, doubly enhanced by the Ao Spirit Fusion and Ao God Fusion talents, shot from Naimi Xisi's fingertip and struck the distant wooden door in an instant.

Boom!!

The violent explosion surged upward, the scorching flames engulfing the wooden door and the sleeping goblins, the extreme heat igniting them all, and the horrific blast turned them to ash in an instant.

The blast naturally drew the attention of all Monsters behind the door; when the flames faded, countless goblins and Hyena Werewolves surged out, and the eagle‑bodied harpies in the sky swooped down on the army hidden in the thickets.

"SathDeathLoath"

The soldiers readied their weapons for battle, and the Mage's evil chant rang again, a wave of death spreading over the ruined wooden gate in the distance.

Five Rings Conjuration spell — Cloudkill! Dark yellow‑green clouds spewed rapidly from the void, expanding in the air; any Monster that inadvertently entered the cloud got its throat clogged, fell to its knees and struggled to breathe. Skin, hair, even wood and stone— all matter within the cloud corroded swiftly, the Monsters' windpipes were burned through by the highly toxic gas, their flesh melted away, finally turning into a pool of rotting meat.

The spell's terrifying effect chilled the hearts of all surviving beings; both Monsters and soldiers swore never to set foot inside after witnessing it.

The ground Monsters were halted by Cloudkill, but the harpies aloft were unaffected; the soldiers raised their bows, raining arrows at the sky‑borne monsters, yet the harpies— with faces like evil old men— merely flapped their wings, and the powerful gusts swept the arrows away.

These soldiers were expert archers, drawing and nocking arrows instinctively, but one should not underestimate their swordsmanship; when arrows proved useless, their sharp swords were already ready.

Seizing the moment when the harpies dove to seize prey, the targeted soldiers lifted their longswords to block, while nearby comrades slipped in to slash off the harpies' claws.

The harpies shrieked and fled in disgrace; the soldiers' precise counterattack inflicted heavy losses, and without their talons, even if they escaped, they would starve to death.

Ah!!!

The harpies emitted a mournful wailing song, their enchanting magic amplified by the chant, causing many soldiers to clutch their heads and stand dazed.

Luo Jia snorted, snatched a bow and arrow from a nearby soldier, aimed at the sky‑borne harpy, and the immense force made the arrow virtually ignore the wind, piercing the harpy's body with precision.

He loosed arrow after arrow, and in a few shots he dispatched the harpies that were singing aloft.

"Dispel that cloud, those Monsters can't get out and we can't get in," Luo Jia said, frowning at the dark green haze in the distance.

Naimi Xisi floated before the cloud, a gale bursting from his fingertips, blowing the haze toward the plaza; the Monsters behind the cloud screamed and fled toward the cavern, fearing the misty death wave.

The soldiers followed the cloud, and corpses lay scattered in the void left by its advance; only when a burst of explosive airflow erupted from the opposite direction, completely dispersing the cloud, were the remaining Monsters' lives spared.

The dim yellow‑green haze cleared, revealing a massive purple creature ten‑plus meters long, its form a hybrid of centipede and crocodile, resembling a heavily‑armored serpent; beneath its serpentine body were countless legs, and its purple skin bore gray‑brown patterns.

It was a Qing‑Foot Dragon Snake.

As it appeared, two more Qing‑Foot Dragon Snakes slithered out of caves on the cliff edge; the largest's foot spanned about twenty meters, and countless arcs of electricity danced across its skin.

"So it's those disgusting guys," Sgena snorted, "how dare they occupy a nest once inhabited by a dragon?"

The Qing‑Foot Dragon Snakes harbored extreme hatred toward True Dragons, and True Dragons felt the same. In ancient times, the earth belonged to True Dragons and Giants, the two great races warring in a world‑wide conflict.

The Giants captured True Dragon genes to create the Qing‑Foot Dragon Snake as a war beast; they were born filled with hatred toward True Dragons, resenting why their twisted bodies were not as beautiful as the dragons'.

Even today, after the Giants' glory has fallen, these creatures still hate True Dragons, yet they also fear them; the three Qing‑Foot Dragon Snakes daring to enter Deep Poison's nest proves that the dragon has truly left for good.

"Damned, why is it Qing‑Foot Dragon Snakes!" Luo Jia gritted his teeth; although he is an 11th‑level Warrior, he still feels outmatched by them, especially with three present! Though not as powerful as a True Dragon, the Qing‑Foot Dragon Snakes' strength is no small matter; they possess immense Physical Strength and can freely unleash potent lightning breath, and any one of them requires at least a 12th‑level practitioner to contend with.

Naimi Xisi and Sgena exchanged a glance, nodded to each other, and jointly resolved to kill these three hideously grotesque false dragons.

"Let me take the lead; your humanoid form cannot stand against these three bugs, so do not reveal your Black Dragon identity for now," Naimi Xisi's voice echoed in Sgena's mind.

Sgena let out a cold snort, giving a barely perceptible nod.

A black staff appeared in Naimi Xisi's hand, an obsidian necromancy staff from the Drow; he lightly tapped the ground with it, and instantly twelve goblin corpses around were infused with evil necromantic power, trembling as they rose.

Before Luo Jia could be surprised that a priest of the god of knowledge would wield necromancy, Naimi Xisi walked to the several Undead, spread his hand in a five‑finger gesture and placed it atop their heads.

"Return to death, filthy thing!"

The Undead he had just summoned were immediately ended by the priest's Dispel Undead ability, ending their brief undead existence.

After five zombies in a row were dispelled by Naimi Xisi, a dazzling cluster of golden light had already formed in his hand, the essence left behind after purifying the deathly magic.

He raised his right hand, flashing with golden light, pointed at the smallest Blue-foot Dragon Serpent in the distance, and chanted a prayer praising the deity.
