Chapter 101: Teaming Up to Stir Up Trouble

~8 min read 1,422 words

Lao Mai shook his head: "Nothing happened; I went looking for trouble myself."

"Fortunately I ran into you; otherwise, with my old arms and legs, I might not be able to get away."

"Where are you guys headed?"

Wu An saw that Lao Mai seemed unwilling to say more and didn't press further, saying, "Let's go see Boss Gao."

"I plan to buy a fishing boat; he has connections."

Lao Mai's eyes lit up: "That's great; are you planning to take people out to sea to fish?"

Wu An was taken aback, then said, "That could work too."

During the fishing ban, some fishermen take their boats out to sea with paying customers, earning fees for the fishing spots; if done well, it can be quite profitable.

Lao Mai said, "Then I'll reserve a fishing spot."

"I haven't been fishing much these days."

"The good spots are crowded, and the bad ones yield hardly any fish."

"What have you been busy with lately?"

A Qing said, "Fishing hasn't been good lately; when I fish with my brother, small fish keep disturbing the bait, so we haven't caught anything, and we've been out gathering seafood for days."

He didn't mention catching blue crabs or butter crabs.

Lao Mai had no intention of getting out of the car, and Wu An drove straight to the market.

Along the way, they chatted a lot.

Upon arriving, they had just found a place to park the motorcycle when Gao Qiangqi also drove back, got off the truck, and saw them, greeting them with a smile.

Gao Qiangqi turned to say a couple of things to A Jin, who nodded and rode off; then Gao Qiangqi said to Lao Mai, "Good, you're here too—let's have a drink together at noon."

Lao Mai nodded and fiddled with his camera.

Gao Qiangqi asked, "Still busy? You're retired—why not take it easy?"

Lao Mai replied, "I can't rest."

Gao Qiangqi added, "How about this: I'll arrange a few friends to help you, guaranteeing you'll get it done smoothly."

Lao Mai waved his hand: "Unless it's absolutely necessary, I don't need your help."

A Qing, curious, couldn't help but ask, "Why?"

Lao Mai said irritably, "Boss Gao will have his friends go to the hospital to have a 'friendly' chat with the person in charge, get a confession on video, and then pass it to me."

A Qing suddenly understood.

Wu An laughed; Lao Mai is quite a character—he didn't outright refuse, but said he wouldn't help unless absolutely necessary, implying that if it ever came to that, he would lend a hand.

He was curious, wondering what Lao Mai was investigating at the hospital and whom he had his eye on.

He asked, "Lao Mai, can I take a look?"

"I don't mean anything else—I've also gathered some information that might be able to help you."

Lao Mai asked, "What information do you have?"

Wu An said, "The hospital director is using his position for personal gain, taking red envelopes from patients and wasting medical resources—just that sort of thing."

Lao Mai's eyes lit up as he handed over the camera: "Did you hear this from someone, or do you have any evidence?"

Wu An said, "I have a recording."

As they spoke, the group arrived at Gao Qiangqi's office.

He pulled out his phone and played the recording—this was from earlier when he had posed as Chen Long's cousin to pump the secretary for information, and he had kept it, thinking it might come in handy.

Lao Mai exclaimed happily, "Great, great, great!"

Gao Qiangqi's eyes flashed; he looked at Wu An thoughtfully.

Wu An flipped through Lao Mai's camera, finding photos and audio, all taken from sneaky angles, the video shaky badly, the photos also blurry.

Looking at it, there wasn't anything special—just doctors receiving envelopes from many people; although he didn't know what was inside, he could guess.

Finally, he saw Chen Long's mother, from the covertly filmed doctor—namely, Chen Long's uncle, the director—obtaining some documents.

The video was still fairly clear.

Chen Long's mother smiled, as if a chrysanthemum were blooming.

The timestamp on the photos showed today.

Wu An's eyes gleamed as various thoughts raced through his mind; if he teamed up with Lao Mai, they might be able to take down the Chen Long family in one fell swoop.

He returned the camera to Lao Mai: "Lao Mai, we can work together on this."

Lao Mai blinked and asked, "Do you have a grudge against Chen Zhong?"

Wu An nodded: "I guess so."

He briefly explained his feud with Chen Long; after hearing it, Lao Mai fumed, "They're really trying to do you in."

Gao Qiangqi puffed on a cigarette and said, "They're still not out of the hospital, which shows this family isn't planning to wrap this up."

"Then you two really have something going."

Wu An looked at Lao Mai.

Lao Mai also looked at him and nodded, saying, "What do you plan to do?"

Wu An said, "All I want is simple: make the Chen Long family pay for extorting me; through Chen Long, Chen Zhong will naturally be implicated."

"Once Chen Zhong is under investigation, you can pull out those covert videos and photos; I'm sure the relevant authorities will get to the bottom of it."

"Put simply, Chen Long is the breakthrough point."

"All he needs to do is light this fuse and set off everything."

Lao Mai nodded: "Feasible."

He was quite pleased; with the information he currently has, he can only go public through juniors, which might stir some public opinion but may not necessarily bring Chen Zhong to justice.

"It might even backfire, alerting Chen Zhong and giving him a chance to cut his losses; not only would it fail to eradicate such illegal activity, it would only drive it deeper underground."

But there is Wu An's matter.

First seize Chen Zhong, then hand over the evidence, catching him off guard; even if those with interests in Chen Zhong want to save him, they must weigh the consequences.

Chen Zhong's fate can then be foreseen.

Wu An patted A Qing's shoulder and said, 'Last time we threw a snake in to scare Chen Long enough; this time we can play something bigger.'

A Qing was excited beyond measure.

Lao Mai smiled: 'A An, everyone says your luck is good, but I think my luck is better.'

Gao Qiangqi said: 'Lao Mai, if you say that, then my luck is even better than yours; A An this time has helped push my business up a level.'

A Qing even more smug: 'Then you definitely don't have luck as good as mine.'

"……" Wu An was speechless, leaning to the north; are these people treating him as a mascot?

Obviously, it's his luck that's good.

Time and again, benefactors helped him; whatever he thought of came; when he was sleepy, someone brought a pillow; this time he wants to stir up trouble,

Gao Qiangqi said: 'Really, you don't need my help?'

The two of you joining forces is strong, but if any mishap occurs, it's likely to fall short at the last moment.

Wu An smiled and said: 'Not unless absolutely necessary……'

Gao Qiangqi laughed heartily: 'Sure, just call if anything comes up.'

At this moment.

His phone rang, he answered, exchanged a few words, and Gao Qiangqi said: 'Let's go, the person has already arrived at the dock; let's first go see the boat.'

"After seeing the boat, we'll go eat."

The group headed straight for Zhen Matou.

On the Road.

Gao Qiangqi also briefly explained the fisherman's situation: the man is Guang Liangjun, about thirty, nothing special, just got into gambling; he just divorced his wife, the family fishing boat belongs to him, and he's quickly arranging to sell it.

Gao Qiangqi said: 'First check the fishing boat; if it's suitable, go ahead and make a move—Guang Liangjun that kid wouldn't dare to cheat the people I brought.'

Arrived at the dock.

Gao Qiangqi walked ahead, and along the way people kept greeting him.

Arrived at where the fishing boats were moored, a middle-aged man stood on the bow waving vigorously.

Gao Qiangqi said: "It's him."

Wu An looked over; the man was somewhat dark and thin, his hair a bit messy, his beard stubbly, looking as if he hadn't been tended to for several days.

He was mainly looking at the fishing boats; the boats were not small, they had to be about ten meters.
