Chapter 107: I Called the Police to Arrest Myself
Wei Zhen threatened: "Kid, if you call the police, just wait to go to jail."
"At least three years, if more, then ten or so years!"
Wu An said: "You know the law pretty well."
"Then go ahead and call the police."
"Fine, I'll report..." Wei Zhen froze, then flew into a rage: "You kid are playing me, right?"
Wu An shook his head: "Actually, however much money you want for a private settlement, I don't care."
"Because I don't intend to compensate you a single cent."
"All I'm leaving you is one road: call the police."
"What I said isn't wrong, right?"
Wei Zhen pointed at Wu Yingwei and them: "If you don't compensate, I'll go after your father!"
Wu An's eyes turned cold: "My father and I have already severed our father-son relationship; everyone present in the village are witnesses."
Wei Zhen snorted coldly: "So what?"
Wu An said: "My father won't care about me; if you dare cause trouble, my father will call the police. In this area of Xixi Village, I can guarantee none of you will escape."
"You!" Wei Zhen angrily stomped her feet, turning the tables—this kid actually dared to threaten her back?
The Chen family members gathered up.
Wu An, fearless, shouted loudly: "Everyone should know, recently I beat someone at the dock."
"They came to my door demanding compensation."
"Last time I paid a lot, and now they're back again."
"I don't intend to compensate anymore, so I'm letting them call the police."
"That's reasonable, right?"
Everyone looked at me, I looked at them, not knowing whether to speak up or stay silent; even those who considered themselves clever couldn't figure out what Wu An was scheming.
What benefit could Wu An possibly gain from doing this?
Is he really planning to go all out, preferring jail over compensation?
Mao Wang shouted excitedly: "Reasonable, too reasonable!"
He practically wished to help Wei Zhen call the police.
His eagerness to have the police come and arrest Wu An was probably even greater than Wei Zhen's.
Other villagers also chimed in: "The reasoning is correct."
"Wu An, going to jail isn't beneficial either; once you get out, you'll be cast aside by the world, or just pay the money and be done with it."
"You're still young; better not go to jail if you can avoid it."
"Yeah, I don't see them wanting to put you to death."
Most still advised Wu An to stay calm.
There was also a small group stirring things up, fearing the world wasn't chaotic enough.
Wei Zhen also scolded: "Kid, don't be ungrateful; I'm sparing you because you're young and I wanted to give you a chance, so I haven't called the police..."
Wu An no longer wanted to listen to her nonsense; the recordings had already been made, the forged data obtained, he pulled out his phone and said: "Shut up."
"If you don't call the police, I will."
"I'm reporting myself."
Having said that, he directly dialed the police emergency number.
Upon receiving the call, the other side was dumbfounded: "What, this person is calling the police to have himself arrested?"
It was still her first time receiving such a self-report call; she told Wu An to come to the police station, but Wu An said he couldn't come, so the other side sent many people who blocked him at his doorstep.
He urged them to send people quickly, otherwise a mass incident was likely to occur.
Upon hearing this, the other side attached great importance and immediately dispatched personnel to Xixi Village.
Seeing Wu An put down his phone, Wei Zhen, furious, cursed: "You kid are asking for death, fine fine fine, then I'll grant your wish!"
"The money can't be obtained."
"But being able to send Wu An to the station counts as venting some spite."
The Chen family members also shouted: "You kid are seeking your own death."
"You're finished."
"Let me tell you, we have people in our family; just wait to wear out the bottom of the prison."
They muttered curses.
They all wore displeased expressions.
Wu An refusing to pay and insisting on going to jail, given Wei Zhen's stingy nature, even if she got no money, she likely wouldn't give them any benefit; they'd basically have made the trip for nothing.
Wu An treated them as if they were farting.
He handed out cigarettes to the surrounding villagers; although most were just there to watch the spectacle, it was precisely because these people were present that the Chen family didn't dare act recklessly, and offering him a cigarette was still appropriate.
It just so happened that by the time it reached Mao Wang, the cigarettes were gone.
Mao Wang had just reached out his hand to take a cigarette, but ended up grasping at air; seeing Wu An's innocent expression, he silently cursed Wu An for definitely doing it on purpose.
After handing out the cigarettes, Wu An went back inside, moved out a table, fetched a teapot and teacup, and leisurely began drinking tea.
Everyone smoked while watching, and all felt amazed.
Wu An was too calm.
Wei Zhen and the Chen family had been shouting for half a while, their mouths already dry; watching Wu An drink tea, they gulped saliva, but could only stand there waiting helplessly.
They sent someone to buy water at the small shop, but found Old Jiang had closed up.
He was inside watching TV; the Chen family also saw this, but after knocking for a long time, he simply refused to open the door.
Make people half-dead with anger, yet there's nothing one can do.
……
The police arrived quickly.
Two came, and Shen Fang also arrived at the same time.
Two police officers walked over and asked, "Please make way, who called the police?"
Wu An raised his hand, and Wei Zhen came over first: "You've finally come; you must give my son justice—he's still lying in the hospital after being beaten."
She spoke while wailing and flailing her arms up and down.
The young policeman hurried forward to support her, speaking standard Mandarin with a concerned expression: "Auntie, please calm down first."
"Tell us the situation clearly."
"Shouting like this makes it hard for us to handle."
The senior officer glanced around, his heart sinking; there were many people, likely half the village, and if not handled well, it could easily trigger a mass violent incident.
In the village, resolving issues must be done cautiously.
He pondered and asked, "Who is the one who reported it?"
Wu An raised his hand: "Officer, it's me."
"I'm from the town police station, here's my ID." The senior officer showed his credentials, took out a notebook, and said, "I need to ask a few questions to understand the situation."
Wu An glanced at the ID; though it passed quickly, he still saw clearly that this officer was Liu Long, and replied, "Okay, Officer Liu."
Wei Zhen quickly shouted: "Just ask me—it's this kid who hit my son."
"This guy is just a bastard."
"He still hasn't admitted fault or apologized even now."
Liu Long frowned: "Ma'am, please don't interfere with my questioning."
Wei Zhen shouted: "What kind of attitude is this?"
"I'm actively cooperating with the investigation—I'm the victim's family."
"Saying that, I suspect you're the reinforcements this kid called in."
Liu Long was somewhat speechless.
The young policeman beside him said plainly: "Auntie, talk to me; my master inquiring about the reporter is normal procedure."
Wei Zhen muttered under her breath as the young policeman pulled her aside.
Soon.
The questioning ended.
Liu Long and his apprentice compared notes, somewhat surprised that the reporter was the perpetrator, Wei Zhen truly being the victim's family, and they had never before encountered a perpetrator who voluntarily reported himself to be arrested.
They looked at the surrounding villagers and asked, "We want to know, did Wu An hit Chen Long at the dock? Is that right?"
Everyone looked toward Wu Yingwei.
Wu Yingwei flicked his cigarette butt to the ground: "Say it however it should be said."
Upon hearing that, everyone had no reason to hesitate, shouting in all directions, with some claiming to have seen it firsthand, describing it vividly.
Liu Long looked at the injury appraisal in his hand, thought the case was simple and could basically be concluded, and turned to Wu An: "Do you have anything else to say?"
Wu An said: "What everyone said is correct—I did indeed hit Chen Long."
Liu Long frowned: "You refuse a private settlement?"
Wu An nodded: "Refused."
Liu Long shook his head, baffled—clearly a matter that could be settled with money, yet he insisted on making it thus, and he thought this kid might be crazy.
If he's not a lunatic, how could he be like this?
