Chapter 143: I Still Like Your Unruly, Untamed Look
Mei Yueqin saw Lin Hu and frowned.
Lin Hu walked into the Courtyard, didn't greet anyone, and it was clear he came with ill intent.
She looked toward Wu An.
Wu An smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, I need to discuss something with Lin Hu."
"You gather all the food and drink into the house."
"No problem."
Mei Yueqin nodded, lifted the big and small bundles and walked into the Hall, then while tidying she anxiously looked toward the Courtyard.
Wu An went to the side shed, pulled a chair and sat down, then poured himself a cup of tea and said, "You came pretty quickly."
Lin Hu wore an unhappy expression, called him over without inviting him to sit; if he weren't a guilty Thief, he would already have exploded, but he held his temper and said, "Let's open the skylight and speak plainly."
"You say I put white sugar into your fishing boat's engine."
"Is there any evidence?"
"I have solid evidence, but I don't intend to hand it over to the police." Wu An paused, then continued, "I thought, since we're both from the same Village, I'd like to talk to you first."
Lin Hu heard this and suddenly laughed, saying, "Wu An, stop playing cryptic games with me."
"I know you suspect me."
"I don't mind; you can suspect me however you like, just assume I did it, I won't lose a piece of meat anyway, hahaha."
He laughed, his mouth corners lifted, his smile full of mockery.
Wu An took a sip of tea and said, "Lin Hu, with words like that, we have nothing left to discuss."
"Ha!" Lin Hu also moved a chair and sat down, crossing his legs and saying, "Fine, then I'll sit and talk with you."
"I'm thirsty, pour me a glass of water."
"That's not too much to ask, right?"
He looked at Wu An with a fearless expression.
Wu An shook his head and said, "Since you're like this, let's not talk any further."
"Watch the video first."
"After watching, don't think about smashing your phone or deleting the video."
Lin Hu, half in doubt, took the phone, and after seeing the video his pupils suddenly contracted and dilated, his heartbeat missed a beat.
The video was short and finished quickly.
He took a deep breath and said, "Wu An, this video still can't prove I did it."
"It can only show that I was there."
"Frankly, this thing is useless."
After speaking.
He pretended to be calm and smiled, but the subconscious gesture of wiping sweat still revealed his true feelings.
Wu An set down his teacup and said, "Lin Hu, whether the video is useful is a matter for the police and the Judge."
"Are you sure you want me to hand the video over to the police?"
"Or shall we settle it privately?"
Lin Hu's eyes flickered.
Wu An had already shown his trump card; now the initiative was his.
Wu An continued, "The engine is completely damaged and needs a new one; fixing it will probably cost ten to twenty thousand."
"If convicted, you'll definitely go to prison."
Lin Hu heard this and knew he really had no choice; clenching his teeth he asked, "Then what do you want?"
Wu An said lightly, "I want you to apologize."
Lin Hu pressed, "And then?"
Wu An shook his head, "That's enough; as long as you apologize, I won't pursue further."
Lin Hu: "What about the engine?"
Wu An said lightly, "I only want you to apologize."
The fishing boat belongs to Guang Liangjun; whether the engine is compensated is none of his business.
Lin Hu's eyes flickered, weighing pros and cons.
In his view, Wu An is the aggrieved party; as long as the aggrieved party doesn't pursue, everything is fine.
But he doesn't know that this aggrieved party is fake.
Mainly because Wu An has the video and already has him cornered.
What can he do?
Fighting Wu An to the death and breaking the net would be worse; better to bow his head and apologize, after all he won't lose a piece of meat, and if he stays low‑key maybe he can keep it hidden from the Village people.
He calculated with his Ruyi abacus, reluctantly confirming, "You don't want me to compensate?"
Wu An shook his head.
Lin Hu gritted his teeth and said, "Fine, I apologize."
Wu An said, "It's not just an apology; you have to go to the Village Committee, and besides apologizing you must write a guarantee letter."
"Alright, I'll write it, then let's go." Lin Hu nodded, but in his heart sneered, this kind of guarantee letter is only for fooling idiots, only Wu An would take it seriously.
Next time he does something bad, he'll be extra careful, and will never be caught on video again.
Wu An lifted the teapot, "Why the hurry? I just got home, a bit thirsty."
Lin Hu, fearing Wu An would renege, snatched the teapot, smiling broadly, and helped pour a cup of tea.
Wu An lifted the teacup, drank it in one gulp, slammed it down and said, "Lin Hu, I still like the way you were just now, unruly and untamed."
He knows Lin Hu is pretending to be cowardly.
But it's fine.
He makes Lin Hu submit, but it's only venting the malice in his heart; this good show has only just begun.
Lin Hu gave an awkward smile, already cursing Wu An as a bloody scumbag in his mind, thinking the matter will be settled; he won't be satisfied with a simple end.
The two rushed straight to the Village Committee.
Seeing them arrive, Old Village Chief Shen, Wu Yingwei, Chen Gui and others were quite surprised.
Wu An said, "Lin Hu, you speak."
Lin Hu took a deep breath, and under everyone's gaze said, "A couple of days ago I was possessed by a mischievous impulse and stuffed white sugar into Wu An's fishing boat engine."
"I will formally apologize to him today."
"I hope everyone can bear witness."
Old Village Chief Shen and Chen Gui were even more surprised; the most surprised was Wu Yingwei, who, as far as he knew, Wu An hadn't managed to buy that fishing boat, so what apology is there?
He must have got the wrong person.
Few people know about this; he never told anyone outside.
Wu Yingwei glanced at his smiling second son, full of doubt but said nothing further.
Chen Gui reacted quickly, looking suspiciously at Wu An; although he still didn't understand the situation, his first reaction was that something was off.
Wu An is not the kind of saintly gentleman who repays resentment with virtue.
Old Village Chief Shen set down his teacup and laughed, "So you have already agreed?"
Lin Hu nodded.
Everyone looked at Wu An.
It seemed as if they were saying, "Wu An, if you get kidnapped, just blink."
Wu An nodded, "Right."
"He writes me an apology and a guarantee letter, and this matter will be settled."
Seeing Wu An so kind, everyone praised him, saying he repays kindness for resentment, is magnanimously tolerant, well done, truly worthy of being Wu Yingwei's son.
Wu Yingwei's face turned strange; he thought it was absurd for Wu An, "You even put on a front, the fishing boat isn't yours; you can't even hold him accountable."
Wu An repeatedly said the compliments were misplaced, he couldn't bear such praise.
Wu Yingwei nodded slightly, "Hmm, the second son still needs some face, but not much."
Chen Gui asked in detail: Wu An bought a fishing boat and had two lucrative trips at sea; out of jealousy, Lin Hu stuffed white sugar into the engine.
Wu An found the video, but didn't call the police; he planned to settle it privately.
The situation was just as it seemed, with no obvious trick; Chen Gui stopped overthinking, also said kind words, but inwardly was unconvinced. He had originally seen Wu An as a rival; now he thought the kid was too naive and too kind.
Indeed, being Wu Yingwei's son makes him easy to handle.
After Old Village Chief Shen praised Wu An, he turned stern and scolded Lin Hu a few times; others joined in criticism, and Lin Hu repeatedly admitted his fault, saying he would never dare again.
As for this nonsense, even he didn't believe it, and Chen Gui also sneered.
Old Village Chief Shen coughed twice and said, "Alright, the guarantee letter…"
Wu An pulled out a sheet of paper and said, "I've already drafted it in advance; it details the events. Lin Hu, take a look; if there's no problem, read it once and sign."
Lin Hu took it, read it once, and said, "Fine, no problem, I'll sign."
He read it once and said there was no discrepancy at all.
He signed.
He was still anxious, fearing any variable might arise.
He said to Wu An, "Wu An, I was wrong, I solemnly apologize."
"I'm sorry."
"And thank you for not holding me accountable."
Wu An tucked away the guarantee letter, smiled, "Alright, I accept your apology."
At the same time he added in his heart, "I only forgive you for doing this out of jealousy; whether to pursue it or not is Guang Liangjun's matter."
Old Village Chief Shen also said, "Alright, let's turn the big issue into a small one, minimizing its impact."
"After all, this matter is not honorable and it's just a village affair; spreading it would sound bad and look ugly."
"Everyone understands my meaning, right?"
Lin Hu's face brightened.
Wu An frowned slightly, but said nothing more.
"I follow the village chief," Chen Gui quickly declared, then looked at Wu An, saying sarcastically, "Looks like A An has really gotten rich lately; replacing a fishing boat engine costs at least ten to twenty thousand, and you don't even want that much money."
"Tsk tsk tsk."
Wu An laughed and said, "Uncle Chen, you misunderstood."
"It's not that I'm magnanimous; it's that I have no right to demand Lin Hu compensate."
Upon hearing that,
everyone was stunned.
What does that mean?
