Chapter 314: Because He Is Kind
The people at the casino come and go like the wind.
Two minivans pulled up and headed straight for Chen Lao Da's house.
Upon arrival, they didn't waste words, opened the door and started smashing, from bottom to top, and left after finishing.
When Wu An and the others came to see the commotion, the entrance to Chen Lao Da's house was already crowded with people, all looking at the messy courtyard.
Village Committee personnel arrived and shouted for everyone to keep their distance.
But who would listen?
No one was inside Chen Lao Da's house, though some Chen family members farther away were present, but they too were just there to watch the spectacle.
Wu An asked, "Didn't anyone call the police?"
Everyone shook their heads.
Wu An chuckled, "Fine, fine, no one called the police, right? Then I'll take on being this enthusiastic citizen."
He took out his phone.
He called Yu Kai Lang.
Upon hearing the news, Yu Kai Lang rushed over immediately.
Liu Long was naturally there as well.
As the person who reported it, Wu An was the first to be questioned.
"I don't know what happened either; I was just visiting relatives, happened to run into this, and came to watch the spectacle."
"Someone wants to enter the courtyard, which would likely destroy the crime scene."
"I saw the Village Committee people couldn't stop them, and upon asking found out that no one had called the police."
"You all know I'm warm-hearted, so I made the call."
After hearing Wu An's words, Liu Long and Yu Kai Lang nodded and praised him for doing well.
Wu An accepted it with a clear conscience.
Yu Kai Lang and Liu Long put up police tape, shouted for everyone not to cause trouble, noting that damaging the scene would make them liable as well.
The two of them entered the courtyard.
Everywhere lay chaotic junk—cupboards, beds—all dragged out and smashed to pieces, then taken into the house.
Inside the house it was even worse; not a single good item remained visible to the naked eye.
Even the eggs in the refrigerator were thrown on the floor and smashed to pieces.
Yu Kai Lang said, "This is definitely retaliation from the casino boss."
Liu Long's face grew solemn as he said, "Over at the hospital..."
"Someone is watching over there."
"The Chen family provoked those people; it's sheer bloody bad luck."
"We must arrest these people."
"Let's hope."
Liu Long sighed, "The casino we raided now has someone stepping forward to condemn it; if nothing unexpected happens, a definitive conclusion will soon be reached."
As for the casino's true boss, he could thus walk free.
And now.
Chen Baosheng was injured in the hospital, his home smashed—all retaliation and warning from the casino boss.
No one was killed, which is a fortunate misfortune.
The two took photos, completed the procedures, and asked around, naturally finding no useful clues at all.
Even if there were clues.
Following the leads, whatever they could catch would be small fry; the big fish are beyond the reach of these two petty police officers from the station.
Chen Lao Da and his wife arrived late.
Seeing the state of the house, the wife couldn't hold back, sat directly on the ground, slapped her thighs, and wailed, crying out about karmic retribution, begging Heaven to open its eyes……
Anyway, just those empty words.
The villagers watched, most showing expressions of schadenfreude.
"It's indeed karmic retribution."
"I never thought Chen Lao Da's house would have this day."
"Tsk tsk, with their arrogant attitude, trouble was bound to happen sooner or later."
"Indeed."
These people's schadenfreude isn't baseless; around here, aside from the sea there are only mountains, and arable land is scarce. Chen Lao Da, relying on his wealth and connections, has taken advantage of many in the fields.
Going to the Village Committee, the result was that most of its members are surnamed Chen; going to Chen Lao Da, he simply refuses to reason.
Seeing Chen Lao Da like this now, if not for being present, they'd practically clap and cheer.
Lao Fu Tou watched, feeling a bit uneasy inside.
Others may not know, but he is the one who understands best—Chen Lao Da's house ending up like this is entirely Wu An's doing.
And it's all for him!
If anything happens, he truly cannot escape death a thousand times over!
He can only silently pray, hoping nothing happens to Wu An; if trouble comes, let it be directed at him.
Wu An watched, also secretly startled.
No wonder he's the type who profits from the criminal code—yesterday he just cleared the place, today retaliation came, and all told it's been just one day.
He still doesn't know that Chen Baosheng's ordeal in the hospital is still on his mind, wondering whether the casino boss would actually cause a death.
Even if they caused a death, it would be Chen Baosheng's own fault.
He never actively schemed against anyone, nor did he actively provoke trouble.
After being reborn and returning, in these short two months he actually only did one thing: trying as much as possible to make up for the mistakes he had made before.
He just wanted himself, his relatives, and the people around him to live a bit better than in his previous life.
Yet things kept happening one after another; even so, he never actively went after anyone—most of the time he acted only passively.
To be fair, from a legal standpoint his actions could be called legitimate self-defense.
He still holds onto the matter of Lin Bin giving Lin Hu a green hat; as for the outcome, he has kept it concealed all along.
Why?
After all, he is still a kind person.
Chen Lao Da had Yu Kai Lang and Liu Long leave, putting on an attitude that he didn't want the police to intervene.
"Doing this does you no good at all; you should cooperate with our investigation and bring the culprit to justice—that would benefit you and your son."
Yu Kai Lang said this somewhat angrily.
Chen Lao Da sneered: "I have nothing to say to you trash."
"Don't think I don't know you're all in the same den of snakes and rats."
"If you were of any use, my son wouldn't ……"
He didn't go on with the rest of his words.
This left the villagers watching the spectacle feeling stifled; hearing the gossip only halfway and not getting the full story was really unpleasant.
"Chen Lao Da, what's wrong with your son?"
"Is Baosheng okay? I still want to go to the hospital to see him when I have time."
Everyone shouted all at once.
Chen Lao Da got annoyed hearing this and shouted angrily: "Get lost, all of you!"
Yu Kai Lang originally wanted to say a couple more things, but Liu Long held him back.
In a sense, what Chen Lao Da said isn't wrong; his doing this is also because he doesn't want to be troubled again.
That's also correct.
If, in public, Chen Lao Da begged them to bring the culprit to justice, then next he would likely face even fiercer retaliation.
Chen Lao Da yielded, wanting to settle things peacefully, but he doesn't know whether the big boss behind the casino will agree.
After they left, the villagers who had been watching the spectacle also left.
Wu An followed them back to the Mei family; on the way he secretly gave Mei Xiaoxiao a red envelope.
Mei Xiaoxiao was very happy: "Thank you, Uncle An."
All went smoothly.
After returning home, without much delay, he went back inside and called Lao Fu Tou.
Lao Fu Tou had already made several calls; at the time his older brother and sister-in-law were there, but he never answered.
It was clear that Lao Fu Tou was very anxious inside.
"Lao Fu, don't worry; this matter is basically settled now."
"They smashed your windows; we smashed theirs—this counts as settled!"
"As for anything else, it has nothing to do with us."
"With such a big incident in the Chen family, they probably won't cause trouble again for a while."
