Chapter 320: A man's mouth is a lying ghost
The goldware shop had few customers.
The sales staff were not few; there were six, but only one was serving customers, the others either wiping or standing together chatting softly.
Seeing Wu An and Gu Anran enter with umbrellas, looking a bit disheveled, they merely glanced at them and then paid no further attention.
It wasn't that they looked down on people; it was just obvious at a glance that these two had come to escape the rain.
Gu Anran saw Wu An's half-soaked body, took out a handkerchief from her bag, and said, "Come here, I'll put it inside your clothing."
It rained.
And it was windy.
Actually it was still a bit damp and chilly; wet clothes on the body are inevitably uncomfortable.
Wu An shook his head: "No need."
"Let's go."
"Let's go browse."
He took Gu Anran's hand and walked into the shop.
Gu Anran said, "Forget it."
"They've laid out a red carpet; with our wet shoes we'd dirty it, which wouldn't be good."
"We're not buying anything."
Wu An smiled: "Since we're here, we might as well."
Saying that, he pulled Gu Anran inside.
Gu Anran felt a bit uneasy.
Seeing the two come in to browse, the idle sales staff merely glanced up, but a relatively young girl smiled and approached: "Hello, what would you like to look at?"
Wu An said, "Just looking around."
Gu Anran gave an embarrassed smile.
The girl nodded, saw them stop at the gold area, poured two cups of hot water, handed them over, and said, "It suddenly poured rain, the temperature dropped a lot; come, have some tea to warm up."
Wu An took it.
After a sip, he pointed to a gold bracelet and said, "This one's okay, the style is also quite nice; bring it over to look at."
The girl took out the gold bracelet.
The bracelet was not small, felt solid in hand, and fortunately adjustable; Wu An had Gu Anran try it on, but it wasn't quite right, mainly because her wrist was a bit slender.
The girl then brought out another style: "How about trying this one? Your girlfriend has fair skin; this is a classic design, simple and elegant."
They tried it.
It was indeed not bad.
Wu An said, "I think this set comes as a complete set."
The girl smiled: "Yes, it's this set—gold earrings, gold bracelet, gold necklace, gold ring, gold pendant."
Wu An then had the girl bring out the whole set; Gu Anran grew more nervous, not wanting to try, and Wu An said, "Give it a try; otherwise we might as well buy it today."
Gu Anran froze.
These five pieces of gold are what's called the wedding five-piece set.
The girl's eyes lit up hearing that; she helped Gu Anran put them on, and I must say, wearing all of them made Gu Anran look quite luxurious.
"Today our store has a promotion: buy the complete gold set and get 5% off, with free future exchanges…" the girl chattered on.
Wu An nodded: "I checked the gold price…305 grams, okay, buying now is quite a good deal, just this set…"
He looked at Gu Anran: "Do you want to wear them directly, or have them wrapped up?"
"Of course wrapped up…" Gu Anran's voice trailed off, eyes wide: "Wait, are you really… really buying it?"
Wu An nodded.
Gu Anran leaned to his ear and whispered softly: "I've seen it; this set is really expensive. For our wedding we don't need the five pieces; three gold items would be enough."
Wu An ignored her.
He took Gu Anran's hand and continued browsing, looking at diamond rings.
Everyone says diamond rings are an intelligence tax; if not tied to love, who would buy such a thing—of course, unless it's as big as a pigeon's egg, then that's another matter.
Wu An took a look.
This gold shop doesn't have many diamond ring styles, nor any particularly large ones.
After going around, none caught his eye.
Wu An instead picked up a few pearl necklaces to examine; the girl introduced them as sea pearls, much better than freshwater pearls.
Naturally the price was also high.
After browsing for a while, the rain lessened somewhat.
The girl helped wrap them up, calculated the price, applied the discount, and finally Wu An paid by card, spending yuan.
Mainly the bracelet and necklace are relatively heavy; the gold ring, pendant, and earrings together don't add much.
Although these gold ornaments were considered a gift for her, she still looked pained.
So much money!
No matter how she persuaded him, Wu An still went to settle the bill.
Holding the receipt.
Gu Anran was still quite happy, saying, "That's fine; I've heard gold prices will keep rising, so this counts as an early investment."
"It definitely won't lose."
Anyway, they'd already decided, so it doesn't matter; sooner or later it's both of their money.
Wu An chuckled; this silly girl really doesn't treat him as an outsider—she'd say that only if he were the one to say it.
To be fair, his buying so much also has definite reasons in this regard.
Wu An held a shopping bag in one hand and put his arm around Gu Anran's waist, walking out of the jewelry store under the gaze of several sales clerks.
The rain had become much lighter than before.
The sky remained dim, and before they knew it, it was almost dark.
An afternoon passed just like that.
It wasn't a waste either; they had accomplished several major things.
Leaving the pedestrian street, they first went to the bus station; nothing unexpected happened, and indeed service had been suspended.
To get from the county, one had to cross a mountain ridge; the mountain road was rugged and harder to travel, so in this situation no one would joke about their lives.
Leaving the bus station, both were starving; Wu An said, 'First don't worry about how to go back—let's fill our stomachs first.'
Gu Anran said warily, 'Then I'll pick the place; we'll just grab something casual, no need for a private room.'
Having suffered from it before, she could never eat it again.
Wu An smiled: 'Okay, I'll listen to you.'
They found a barbecue stall, ordered a lot of food, both hungry; the two spent just over 200, and Wu An ate four skewers of lamb kidneys himself.
Gu Anran saw him eating so much, thought it must be delicious, took a bite, and almost got sick from the fishy smell.
Wu An ate with relish: 'I like it.'
As the saying goes, only by enduring hardship can one become superior.
Eating a few more kidneys is no big deal.
Leaving the barbecue stall, the sky turned completely dark.
After picking up their bags from the old man in the park, Wu An coughed twice and said, 'It's still raining this late; even taking a cab back would be dangerous, so why don't we find a place to stay for the night?'
Gu Anran didn't speak, just sniffled.
The two were close together, and Wu An heard her breathing become rapid.
After a moment, Gu Anran said nervously, 'Alright.'
Wu An pointed across the street: 'Come on, there's one over there that looks pretty legitimate.'
It's a certain express hotel.
In the county town, this counts as a decent hotel—at least it's not a guesthouse or inn.
Just as they reached the door, Gu Anran suddenly grabbed his hand, and Wu An felt her hand trembling slightly.
Wu An turned and held her hand, saying, 'Let's get two rooms.'
Gu Anran blinked, relaxed, nodded, and said, 'Okay.'
The two walked in.
The naive, ignorant girl soon learned what a man's mouth is— a lying devil.
