Chapter 45: A Little Revenge

~7 min read 1,378 words

Wu An remembered that he had met this woman before.

Although they had only met briefly, he shouldn't not recognize her.

Making such a fuss at his house, yet even he doesn't recognize him — it's utterly absurd.

Wu An saw the thief snatching the chicken his sister-in-law had painstakingly raised and selling it; he was already furious, and discovering that the other party didn't even know him made his rage uncontrollable.

He hated the person opposite him, and even more he hated his former self!

In his anger, Wu An was considering.

How should he make up for all this!

In his previous life, his mind was muddled, blinded by anger and hatred, venting his emotions caused trouble, and he just patted his butt and left.

He left all the hardships to his family, letting them clean up his mess.

He didn't even know that the chicken his sister-in-law raised had been snatched away.

What exactly had befallen his family?

He felt it necessary to find out clearly.

He felt like a bystander, observing everything that was happening now.

So.

After watching him for a while, he left without saying a word.

He could easily reveal his identity now and cause another scene.

Then what?

Besides venting anger, there would be no benefit at all; it would ruin the "prodigal son returns" persona he had painstakingly built.

He couldn't do anything that would disappoint his family.

At any time, facing anything, he must think twice before acting.

Behind him.

The middle-aged woman's hawking voice and the laughter from people chatting transmitted into his ears; Wu An clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white.

Let her be proud, let her laugh.

There will be a time when she cries!

A Qing asked, "Brother, what's wrong?"

"Want to eat chicken?"

"We have some at home; let's go back, I'll get my mom to kill one."

Wu An shook his head: "You're hungry?"

"I'll treat you to a meal."

Lao Mai said, "Today it's not your turn; I'll handle it, I'll handle it."

"I'll take you to the small eatery I often go to."

"Get in the car."

Leaving the market, the sun had already risen.

Wu An narrowed his eyes, not expecting it to be this late; following Lao Mai to the morning tea shop, the place wasn't big but very clean, with all kinds of snacks available.

Lao Mai knew the two had been busy until late at night and must be hungry and tired, so he ordered a table full, basket after basket, the portions weren't large but very refined.

Halfway through his meal, Lao Mai went to the opposite bank to withdraw money, saying, "Handsome guy, I weighed it at Old Fang's place — two jin three liang, that's three thousand."

"Don't stand on ceremony."

"This is my phone number; when you get a phone, remember to contact me."

Wu An nodded, pocketed the money; tonight's earnings were not bad — rounding up, it's about ten thousand.

After eating and drinking well, Lao Mai wanted to settle the bill.

The boss said, "The handsome guy has already paid the bill."

Lao Mai turned his head to look at Wu An, smiled without saying anything, and asked, "What are your plans for the two of you next?"

Wu An said, "We brothers are going to buy some clothes, then take a bath."

"Then we'll stroll around town and buy some things."

"Lao Mai, you don't need to worry about us."

Lao Mai nodded and said, "Alright, I'm heading home; if I don't settle these three-knife fish soon, I'll feel uneasy."

After saying goodbye, Lao Mai left first; Wu An and A Qing cleared the table, then walked out of the morning tea shop with their bellies round and full.

Wu An looked left and right, originally planning to go to the hospital first.

But after thinking, he brought A Qing to the phone store.

LG, Meizu, Samsung, Apple, Nokia also had space, plus brands like Coolpad, and the Xiaomi 2 was already available.

In fact, smartphones nowadays have developed quite well; future phones are merely updates and iterations, basically the same medicine in a different bottle.

Wu An bought a Xiaomi 2, two of them.

A Qing also bought one.

Nowadays, among peers in the village, who doesn't have one each? I've heard someone even sold a kidney to buy an Apple, though I don't know if it's true.

After buying the phones, he rushed nonstop to the hospital; Wu An bought a fruit basket from the stall at the hospital entrance and carried it inside.

The town's hospital isn't big — just a five-story building, with outpatient and inpatient services all in this building.

There's also an emergency department.

But it's basically just for show.

As far as he knew, Chen Long had been staying in the town hospital; this small hospital struggles even with emergency care, let alone an ICU!

He arrived at the third floor of the inpatient ward.

The nurse was cracking melon seeds, watching drama on her phone, when Wu An walked over and cheerfully greeted, "Pretty girl, where does Chen Long live?"

Nowadays, the term "pretty girl" isn't overused yet; hearing someone address her, the nurse was quite pleased and asked, "What do you need him for?"

Wu An blurted, "I'm his cousin; I just heard he got beaten and landed in the ICU, so I came specially to see him."

The nurse laughed, "We don't even have an ICU here."

Wu An suddenly realized, "I know, my cousin's elder uncle is the director; he could issue a certificate saying he was beaten into a vegetative state."

"But I heard the beating was pretty severe."

The nurse nodded, lowering her voice, "Your cousin's fine—just a few scrapes; there's really no need to visit."

Wu An chuckled, "Scamming people—this is an old trick."

The nurse also laughed, "Who let him be the director's nephew?"

"The ward is at the far end of the second floor, room 204."

Wu An thanked her, played the part fully, and went up to the second floor.

The ward door was closed.

He didn't startle the snake; leaving the hospital, he pulled out his phone from his pocket, the recording was clear—just a precaution, but he actually caught something useful.

But that wasn't enough.

A Qing was furious, grinding his teeth, and said, "Brother, this can't just be left alone!"

"How about we storm the ward and give him another beating?"

"This time we'll really beat him into the ICU!"

"Enough, stop talking nonsense—he's made me suffer this much, disrupted my household's peace; we have to go big!" Wu An paused, then said, "Everyone involved will have to pay the price."

A Qing's eyes darted, he gave a wicked grin and said, "Brother, he's not really sick, is he? Let's throw firecrackers into his ward and see if he can still pretend."

Wu An's eyes lit up; whoever said A Qing was stupid, he was the first to object, saying, "Forget firecrackers—that's too obvious; a little investigation would expose us. I saw there are snakes for sale in the market."

A Qing gave a thumbs-up: "Brother, you're still the best."

Wu An said, "Let's go—first buy snakes, then buy clothes."

The two split up; A Qing went to the vegetable market to buy snakes, while Wu An went to the department store and bought two outfits for each of them.

Plus hats and stockings.

They met at the hospital entrance, disguised themselves, and A Qing was excited: "Brother, let me throw the snakes."

After disguising themselves, they ran to the north-facing window of the ward; the window happened to be open, A Qing grabbed two snakes, balled them up, and tossed them in smoothly.

Not long after, terrified screams came from the ward; the two bolted, sprinting out of the hospital, found a deserted alley entrance, took off their stockings and hats, and burst into loud, happy laughter.

Wu An deliberately took a detour, happened upon a bathhouse, went in and soaked comfortably; A Qing was quite interested in the second floor, but upon learning the minimum spend upstairs was 399, he was so scared he didn't even dare to look.

What kind of bath costs 399!
