Chapter 5: Linked Rod Technique

~8 min read 1,537 words

Pull.

Pull hard.

Wu An forcefully shook the spool, beginning to reel in the line.

The fish in the sea also exerted force, desperately diving into the sea.

Both sides went back and forth, but as time passed, the scales of victory tilted toward Wu An.

There's no helping it; the fish in the sea isn't weak, but after all it's just a fish, and with all this tugging, the fish hook being pulled hurts terribly.

At first, because of the pain, it could still rely on a reflex to make a fierce surge, but after the pain lasted long, it didn't go numb; instead, the fish wanted to cry from the pain.

The more it was pulled, the more it hurt; the more it hurt, the more it suffered.

Gradually, it could no longer struggle.

That's it.

Tired.

Do whatever you want.

Wu An felt the fish's struggling force weaken, taking advantage of its weakness to quickly reel in the line.

Soon.

He pulled the fish up to the sea surface.

"Brother, I think it's a black bream."

"Yeah, this one is bigger than the previous one."

"This must weigh about ten or so catties."

A Qing shouted loudly.

The two people on the neighboring big reef had agreed not to look, but hearing A Qing shout like that, they couldn't help but turn their heads over.

"A Qing, quit shouting bullshit."

"There's no black bream that weighs ten or so catties."

"I think the one A An caught weighs at most four or five catties."

The two of them shouted angrily.

A Qing laughed loudly, didn't shout back at those two, let A Qing scoop the fish up—it was bigger by a circle than before, no wonder the force was much greater.

To be fair.

Fishing is really enjoyable.

In my previous life, I worked in the city; after work I returned to the dormitory, passing by some small rivers, with searchlights on both banks—those were night anglers.

Back then he still couldn't quite understand, thinking these people were just bored from being full, wondering if daytime work wasn't tiring; not resting properly at night, they even stayed up late to fish.

Now he understands.

Turns out fishing is this fun, and you can even make money!

Those two black bream and one sea bass he caught, if sold to a buyer, would surely fetch at least two or three hundred cash.

In his previous life, waiting tables at a restaurant, he couldn't even earn that much in a day.

Awesome.

Too awesome.

Wu An continued baiting and casting; once he started hooking fish, it was so enjoyable he couldn't stop.

Not even a minute had passed.

The fishing rod sank again—another bite.

Wu An lifted the rod, the fishing line went straight, cutting through the water wildly, feeling the fish's pull; he couldn't help but feel delighted—hey, another big fish.

A Qing stared wide-eyed: "No, brother, you said you'd make a move; turns out it wasn't just empty talk."

"I think those two next door are going to be tortured to death by you."

"Using their fishing rods to catch the biggest fish possible, they watch eagerly—how enjoyable, truly so enjoyable."

Wu An laughed heartily: "Low-key, low-key."

The two next door went crazy.

"Again… another bite."

"How can this kid's luck be so good."

"Heaven, you're blind, letting this worthless scum get a consecutive hit!"

Not long after.

A sea bass leapt straight out of the sea.

Just as if it were about to fly.

A Qing scratched his head and asked: "Brother, why is this fish frantically twisting its head, like it's taken drugs—is it crazy from pain?"

Wu An chuckled: "Maybe."

Lin Hu beside them couldn't help but shout: "You two idiots, this is gill washing."

Lin Bin coughed: "Don't remind them."

Lin Hu immediately shut up.

Wu An, in both his lives, hasn't really fished much; A Qing knows even less—sea bass gill washing is an attempt to throw off the hook; any angler who knows a bit will promptly adjust to prevent the bass from escaping.

A Qing said: "Brother, this definitely has a problem."

Wu An chuckled: "It doesn't matter; we may not know how to fish, but we can get consecutive hits—unlike those two, who know everything yet are useless, only able to watch eagerly."

A Qing laughed.

He hurriedly extended the scoop net and caught the fish in one go.

The two people next door saw this, couldn't help but sigh and groan, silently cursing that this sea bass was utterly hopeless, it still hadn't gotten away.

A Qing put the fish into the bait bucket, happily saying, "It's about the same size as the first sea bass."

Wu An cast his line again with bait.

Soon he got a bite.

The tip of the rod dipped a little, but didn't sink fully.

Wu An quickly reeled in, soon pulling a small fish to the surface; without waiting for A Qing to use the scoop net, he jerked the rod hard, sending the fish flying onto the reef.

"It's a Stone Nine Public."

"It's about the same size as the one Lin Hu just pulled up, so tiny."

A Qing shouted with a look of disgust.

Lin Hu next door: "... Damn!"

He felt A Qing was indirectly blaming him, but he couldn't retort; so far he had only caught one Stone Nine Public, and if he spoke up, A Qing would surely mock him.

A Qing reached out to grab it.

Wu An quickly warned, "Be careful, this fish has spines."

A Qing nodded.

He knew this from childhood, when someone tricked him into grabbing a Stone Nine Public, got spiked, his hand swollen like a steamed bun, hurting so much he jumped around.

He was crying from the pain, but those people laughed happily and even called him an idiot.

After that, he stopped playing with them.

Only Wu An never teased him.

Carefully picking up the Stone Nine Public and tossing it into the bait bucket, Wu An said, "Stone Nine Public isn't worth much, but it's delicious; if we catch a few more, we'll have them for dinner tonight."

A Qing swallowed, then quickly nodded, "I'll listen to you, brother."

Who knows if it was his golden words, but the next three fish were all Stone Nine Publics; he was quite pleased, the feeling of hooking fish one after another with the linked rod technique was simply exhilarating.

Fortunately A Qing helped scoop the fish and remove the hook; he only needed to bait with rotten shrimp, then cast again, with hardly any delay in between.

After pulling up another Stone Nine Public, the luck value dropped again.

Only a little remained.

After waiting about four minutes, he got another bite.

It was a sea bass.

"Brother, this sea bass is the biggest."

"It must weigh about ten to twelve catties."

"Awesome, my brother."

A Qing burst into enthusiastic praise.

The two people on the big reef next door still held their fishing poses, seeming not to have moved; there was nothing to do if they hadn't caught anything.

Wu An was used to A Qing's exaggeration; the fish he caught weren't that big, but they were still about six or seven catties.

Moreover, none of the fish he caught got away, and he was quite satisfied.

While re-baiting with rotten shrimp and preparing to cast, he again infused his luck value into the fishing rod.

Luck Value: 11 (2)

Ordinary sea rod: (+3)

He had just cast the bait and hadn't even exchanged two words with A Qing when the rod tip dipped and he got a bite.

Just as he had expected.

Luck value determines whether one can catch fish, and the higher the luck value, the faster the bite, and vice versa.

"Brother, you're so fast, you've hooked another one again!" A Qing stared, eyes burning, unable to suppress his desire to fish, and asked, "Can you let me pull a line?"

Wu An shook his head: "Fish yourself."

If this fish got away, the two of them would develop a rift in their relationship; in a past life they had brushed shoulders on Douyin, sworn brotherhood, but because of a lost fish they turned against each other.

The comment section was full of people spamming their understanding, even saying that even if the Peach Garden Oath brothers showed up, they'd still have to part ways.

A Qing glumly said, "I'm just like the two people next door; my fishing rod shows no movement at all."

Lin Hu felt offended and shouted, "What are you talking about? We're not the same—I caught a Stone Nine Public."

Lin Bin waved his hand with a look of contempt, "I pulled up a sea bass; what did you catch?"

A Qing was left speechless by the retort.

Wu An gave the two a sideways glance, mocking my little brother, asking if you've even asked me.

He reached out and grabbed A Qing's fishing rod, infused the last two points of luck value into it, then casually pointed and said, "A Qing, change your position."

A Qing was very obedient and immediately adjusted his position.
