Chapter 193: Do you want to take a shortcut? Do you want to find a girl who can help you?

"Why did it happen?" Su Yang was asked this and didn't know how to answer.

Should I say that I was just doing good deeds, and then, through a moment of carelessness, those things that people find indescribable happened?

I was doing good deeds in an upright and honest manner. What the hell am I supposed to explain to you?

But when his gaze met Fang Jingwen's cold, icy eyes, he immediately realized that at this moment, she was the Discipline Inspection Commission Secretary, and he was just a Town Mayor called in for a disciplinary talk.

At this time, there was no room to talk about the camaraderie of going through life and death together. He immediately replied, "Secretary Fang, listen to my explanation..."

"The matter is like this: because the post-disaster reconstruction work in Huatian Village and the construction of the apple processing plant officially kicked off yesterday, I went to oversee the site selection and arrange for them to start work. After arranging the work, I wanted to walk around the surroundings of Huatian Village to take a look."

"I wanted to see if, besides developing the apple industry, Huatian Village could engage in other industries, and if it could become a diversified economy. So, I squatted on a relatively high field ridge to survey the situation, and that was when Teacher Wang Erni happened to come by."

"We just squatted there and chatted for a few sentences. Because when I first took office, I met Wang Erni's daughter and father; she was beaten by that bully Zhao Da Yong just because she went out to sell apples."

"I even helped them pay their medical bills, so when she saw me, she wanted to come over to thank me and chat. It was also based on my sympathy for her that I promised to let her go back to being a teacher. Originally, this whole matter was Li Tian acting behind the scenes to fire her for no reason; I didn't use the Town Mayor's special privileges to interfere with anything, I just did what I should have done."

"Then, after chatting for a while, when she stood up, perhaps her legs were numb, so she fell downward. I reached out to grab her in a moment of urgency, but accidentally, we both fell down. As a result, before we could even climb back up, we were seen by a man from their village named Zhao Dabao, and then this matter spread."

"This is the truth of the matter. I don't know why those people spread such gossip, making it seem like I've never seen a woman before."

"You know me; no matter what, I wouldn't go looking for a woman in the village, let alone engage in that kind of shady, illicit business."

After Su Yang finished explaining, Fang Jingwen's expression remained cold. She said coldly, "If there was nothing, then why do others say you are engaging in power-for-sex transactions? If there was nothing, why do people speak of it so vividly? You two were embracing, and it was in broad daylight, out in the wild. Everyone says you went looking for excitement."

"Moreover, County Magistrate Li has already reported directly to Secretary Zhou. Secretary Zhou is very angry. The political atmosphere in the county is already very bad, and before we could even manage to turn it around, this kind of thing happened."

"And at such a sensitive time for Huatian Town, why couldn't you restrain yourself and keep some distance from this so-called female teacher?"

"If it were purely because you had those things happen there that shouldn't have, maybe it wouldn't be a big deal if it got out. But you had her return to school that very afternoon and promised her numerous benefits; isn't this the very fact of a power-for-sex transaction? And we have already asked the primary school principal; it was you who let Li Hu handle this matter. How do you explain this point?"

How to explain it? Su Yang was truly unable to defend himself. Everyone understands this kind of thing, or rather, everyone knows how it is.

He stepped forward to let Wang Erni return. Then the school principal would certainly help arrange it like a sycophant; this would be the case for anyone.

Isn't that just how it is within the system? Once there is an opportunity to do things for the local chief, for these people below, it is like smoke rising from their ancestors' graves.

Wang Erni's loss is just being a private teacher; otherwise, Su Yang is certain the primary school principal would definitely have arranged some official position for her in the school.

So at this very moment, the label of him engaging in a power-for-sex transaction was firmly stuck on him!

He thought for a moment and still said truthfully, "Secretary Fang, you also know the situation at the grassroots level. Actually, the grassroots system is all done this way."

"First, Wang Erni was dismissed by Li Tian for no reason using an excuse. I let her go back, just doing the work that a Town Government leader should do."

"Secondly, I only let her return to school to continue substitute teaching; I did not promise any benefits. All the gossip spreading later was just things the primary school principal did on their own."

"Most importantly, I really have no ambiguous relationship with her, or rather, although I am young, I can withstand temptation."

"Otherwise, I have seen so many super beauties in the city, and even in the province; if I really had that kind of intention, I would have already done that, right?"

"Besides, whether it's a man or a woman, everyone has vanity and a tendency to admire the strong. Even if I were to look for someone, I would have to look for someone who could help me in my official career and provide resources for my future development within the system."

"Secretary Fang, don't you think that's the logic? Of course, these words are a bit crude and sound a bit unpleasant, but in fact, that's how it is. I just said what everyone has in their hearts."

When Fang Jingwen heard Su Yang say this, the face that was originally as cold as frost actually melted quite a bit.

Her tone was also not so cold. "Sometimes, your words and actions, your deeds themselves are not important; what is important is how others see them."

"And I also want to know how you could say such shameless words. Do you really want to find a girl who can help your official career and provide you with resources in the future?"

Su Yang was stunned now. Wasn't she just extremely angry and lecturing him in the capacity of a Discipline Inspection Commission Secretary?

How did the style suddenly change? I said this on purpose just to break free from this quagmire.

In all fairness, there are many people who have such thoughts, but they don't know at all that if you want to marry the daughter of such a big shot, the pressure you will bear in the future is not something an ordinary person can withstand.

Does he want to take such a shortcut? He asked himself, he had had such a thought.

But in reality, no matter how many resources you get, whether you can reach a higher position in the end depends entirely on your own efforts.

Of course, if you are only at the Section Chief or Division Chief level, having resources behind you can completely allow you to break through quickly, but when you truly reach the top, what you rely on is not this.

Because when you truly reach a certain level of competition, what you have, others also have, and others' backgrounds are even so big that they make you feel terrified and fearful.

Su Yang thought for a while and said, "Of course everyone wants to take a shortcut. Like me, working hard here, and if I'm not careful, I'll be framed and set up by others, and a small matter that was originally dispensable is infinitely magnified, and even poked all the way to you."

"If I had any background, I believe no one would dare to make an issue of this. And don't talk about how big my background is; even if I were the County Magistrate, I guess no one would dare to say that."

"But then again, I always feel that having resources is a good thing, and having a shortcut to take is even more desirable, but in the end, you still have to be strong yourself. If you're not strong, others won't look at you either..." ===== CHAPTER 194 =====
