Chapter 255: Sun Chengjun, Making a Name for Himself, a True Man
Zhao Ruilong flung the door open and, to his shock, saw a group of police standing at the entrance. He angrily asked, "What are you doing here? Do you know what place this is? Who let you in? What are the plane's guards eating? How can just anyone be let in?"
Sun Chengjun ignored him, merely asking coldly, "May I ask if you are Mr. Zhao Ruilong?"
Zhao Ruilong said, "I'm Zhao Ruilong. What's up? Looking at your menacing aura, are you here to arrest someone? You should know what place this is."
He even glanced at Sun Chengjun's police rank again as he spoke, saying, "Those who enter this courtyard, with your police rank, you're the first."
"The lowest-ranking person who previously came in was your Public Security Department director, wearing a first-class superintendent on his shoulder. You, a mere first-class inspector, where do you get the nerve to come to my house to arrest people? Which precinct are you from?"
"If you have business with me, have your leader come talk to me. You damn well aren't qualified enough."
Zhao Ruilong's kingly aura remained; of course what he said was true— to enter this gate, at minimum one must be a Public Security Department director. Someone like Sun Chengjun, a small fry, normally couldn't even get through the gate.
Sun Chengjun spoke neither humbly nor arrogantly, saying, "Zhao Ruilong, I'm not from any precinct. Listen clearly: I am Sun Chengjun, director of Huatian Town Paichusuo in Jincheng County, currently a member of the Provincial Department Special Investigation Team, ordered to bring you back to assist in the investigation. Will you walk yourself, or shall we cuff you?"
Sun Chengjun gave Zhao Ruilong no face at all; the few police behind him were already trembling.
They thought, "How did I end up following such a badass on this mission? Besides, we all outrank him in rank and position— how is he leading the team?"
"If we end up offending someone and get punished, it'll be all because of this Sun Chengjun," they thought, but they couldn't say it then.
All they could do was step back two paces, trying to keep distance from Sun Chengjun to show their stance; they were just following orders, not necessarily wanting to lay hands on Zhao Ruilong.
Zhao Ruilong's face changed; he coldly snapped, "Who gave you the guts to talk to me like this? Asking me to assist in the investigation— what are you, some scallion?"
"I don't have time now; when I do, I'll naturally call your leaders. Where are you from? Go back where you came from. Get lost!"
But Sun Chengjun stood motionless at the doorway, sternly saying, "Zhao Ruilong, if you refuse to cooperate, don't blame me for using force."
Zhao Ruilong shouted angrily, "Are you all brain-dead? I dare anyone to cuff me."
"Not to mention you— even your Public Security Department director doesn't have that gall."
After his words fell, the few police who had come with Sun Chengjun stepped back another two paces, almost retreating into the safety passage.
Yet Sun Chengjun's face remained grim; he pulled handcuffs from his waist and moved to put them on Zhao Ruilong.
At that moment, a voice came from inside the house: "What's happening? Who's out there?"
Immediately afterward, Governor Zhao Dagong walked out from inside.
Song Chengjun gave a salute with a "pa" sound and said, "Hello, Governor Zhao! I'm from the Provincial Department Special Project Team. We have some matters requiring Comrade Zhao Ruilong to assist in the investigation, but he seems unwilling; please, leaders, decide for us."
Having already alarmed Governor Zhao, Sun Chengjun remained neither humble nor arrogant, showing no intention to retreat.
Zhao Ruilong roared, "What the hell are you, daring to speak to my father like that? Believe it or not, I'll slap you right now."
At that moment, Governor Zhao looked at Sun Chengjun; the menace in his gaze was enough to make one's flesh crawl. The police two meters behind Sun Chengjun couldn't even stand; they just wanted to flee the place quickly.
Yet Sun Chengjun stood ramrod straight at the doorway, locking eyes with Governor Zhao.
Such conduct and demeanor were unprecedented among the police of Ganzhou Province.
Anyone with a bit of sense wouldn't dare do this, regardless of reason or how solid the evidence— across from you is the head of the Provincial Government.
Even if the Provincial Department director personally came to make an arrest, one would first need to seek approval; for a mere police station chief to go head-to-head with him is sheer foolishness.
Zhao Ruilong was about to explode with anger; he couldn't tolerate even a slight to his dignity, let alone this petty cop daring to smear his father's face.
In his fury, he raised his hand, preparing to slap Sun Chengjun.
At this moment, Governor Zhao Dagong coldly said,
"What are you doing? Want to assault an officer? Since they've come to invite you for investigation, just go along— why make a fuss here?"
As soon as he spoke, everyone thought they were hallucinating—the governor actually agreed to take Zhao Ruilong away.
How could this be? Slap him in the face and still take him away— this sounds so fantastical; some even felt their ears must be broken.
Exactly, just as they dazedly doubted their ears, Sun Chengjun snapped the handcuffs onto Zhao Ruilong with a "pa."
"Zhao Ruilong, let's go."
The police behind immediately felt their legs go weak, almost kneeling on the spot— "You're totally brain‑sick."
Governor Zhao has spoken, and they're standing right here— yet you dare to cuff someone? What kind of person are you to grow up like this?
Governor Zhao's face visibly darkened, but he said nothing and simply turned and walked back inside.
Zhao Ruilong nearly shouted at the top of his lungs, "Fine, you're Sun Chengjun, right? I'll remember you."
Sun Chengjun gave a cold smile and said, "Don't try to intimidate me; I'm born with a big gall."
As he spoke, he shoved Zhao Ruilong out of the house with force, then didn't bother to cover the handcuffs on his wrists with any clothing, dragging him bare‑handed down the stairs and out.
This was exactly the evening when people came and went; those entering and leaving this compound were either Provincial Party Committee bigwigs or their families, who, though they rarely interacted, all knew each other.
Especially Zhao Ruilong, such a famous figure— everyone in the compound knows him— yet seeing him in handcuffs left them all stunned; this shouldn't be possible— what on earth happened?
Frankly, they could hardly believe what they saw; looking again at the police before them, it was merely a low‑rank officer.
And the others following that officer looked nervous, wishing they could get a hundred meters away to shake themselves clean, but they forgot they too wore police uniforms— how could they possibly shake themselves clean?
Zhao Ruilong's face was livid; he had thought the car was right downstairs— once he got in, outsiders wouldn't see him, and no one would investigate why these police had come.
But what he didn't expect was that the police car never entered; it was parked on the road beside the Provincial Party Committee staff residential compound, and he, still in handcuffs, paraded like a criminal for ten minutes before reaching the car.
All along, people pointed and whispered; someone even murmured softly, "Isn't that Young Master Zhao? How did he get cuffed?"
"Has his father fallen from power?"
