Chapter 943: You Really Prepared a Set Yourself?
Fang Jingwen looked at Liu Zixuan and said, "Could it be something?"
While saying that, her eyes flickered a little; in fact, for the past half a day she had been looking for an opportunity or excuse.
Liu Zixuan surveyed Fang Jingwen from head to toe, then circled around and said, "Could it be that you prepared a set yourself?"
Fang Jingwen had been waiting for that line; otherwise, if she had said from the start that she also prepared a set, it would have seemed so abrupt.
She said, "What else? This is a major life event for Su Yang and Zhou Ruohan, and since they've asked me to be the maid of honor, I need to prepare for it in advance."
"Giving others the greatest dignity is also respecting oneself."
As soon as the words left her mouth, she suddenly felt something was off. A lover serving as maid of honor—how could they have asked months ago? Moreover, Liu Zixuan knew a bit about her relationship with Zhou Ruohan; they couldn't be as close as best friends. If it were that kind of relationship, perhaps a promise made years ago could exist. From what she knew, this was all last‑minute.
Liu Zixuan said half‑incredulously, "No way. Even if they invited you, it's only in the past few days—how could you have arranged it?"
Fang Jingwen replied, "You just don't know, do you? It's nothing but a Chinese formal dress—don't you have one yourself? I don't usually wear such clothes, but I prefer our style of Chinese formal wear, so at the end of this year I already had a tailor make a set for me."
"Honestly, that set cost me two or three months' salary; I was really heart‑broken over the expense at the time."
Liu Zixuan showed interest, "Wow, you really put effort into it. How about you try it on for me—are you free now?"
Fang Jingwen said, "I originally wanted to try it on for you to see if it fits, but we have guests at home today, so I can't go back now. If I go back, I'd have to stay and chat with them, and coming out again would be impolite."
Liu Zixuan pursed his lips; although his thoughts weren't as delicate as Fang Jingwen's or Zhou Ruohan's, he could guess something.
However, being born into a prestigious Jingcheng Cultivation Clan, she was still clear on some notions: what can be said may be said freely, even if it means stabbing Liu Zixuan, one can find someone to deal with it; but things that shouldn't be said must be strictly kept, and she would never utter a single word out of turn.
Of course, she hadn't thought that far; she just felt that Fang Jingwen might have new preparations, probably stemming from Su Yang helping her out that night, which left her grateful.
Yet this matter was a big deal for Fang Jingwen. What she said earlier was correct: the dress was indeed made three months ago, specially tailored, and it did cost her a lot. She just didn't expect it to be needed so soon, but in hindsight it's worth it.
Early the next morning, Su Yang received a call from Sun Chengjun, who said their flight was at 1 p. m. and asked Su Yang to send a precise address so he could take a taxi there.
Su Yang said he would go directly to the airport to pick them up and also inform Zhou Ruohan.
Zhou Ruohan said, "Since Mom and Dad are coming, you can't go alone; I'm going too, otherwise people will laugh that I, as a daughter‑in‑law, have no manners."
Su Yang said, "You're their eldest grandchild, if you don't want to go, then don't—your health is inconvenient."
Zhou Ruohan glared, "You think it's no big deal, but I think it matters a lot, so that's not okay." After that she called Zhou Tong, since four people were coming and one car couldn't fit them all.
A moment later, Zhou Tong arrived in a seven‑seat business van and parked at the door. Su Yang had originally planned to use two cars, but this way everyone could sit in one vehicle, making the atmosphere livelier and the effect better; otherwise, even close relatives and friends would seem cold if split up.
After arriving at the airport, Su Yang waited a bit; of course, he wasn't worried that Sun Chengjun and the others wouldn't find the exit, since Ning Shu Yue had seen the world.
After half an hour, Sun Chengjun called him, saying they had already emerged. As soon as the words ended, sharp‑eyed Zhou Ruohan saw Sun Chengjun and the others; she didn't tell Su Yang a word, but cheerfully greeted them: "Dad, Mom, you've arrived, thanks for the journey. Da Jun, you too, thank you for looking after us on the way."
Her calling "Da Jun" resonated with Sun Chengjun and Ning Shu Yue; it was full of approval! Why? Because "Da Jun" is Sun Chengjun's nickname, and aside from Su Yang, a childhood friend who occasionally shouts it, no one else would use his nickname, as doing so requires either a very close relationship or being family.
Coming from Zhou Ruohan's mouth, that was full of recognition for Sun Chengjun; how could they not be pleased?
Su Yang thought to himself, "You ran fast, just a moment ago you were chatting beside me, then you slipped away."
Old Su said, "Oh, not a bit hard at all; Da Jun and the other took great care of us, we ate on the way, and when we set off we even found a place to rest at the airport, rested a while, and now we're full of energy."
Su Yang's mother asked concernedly, "Ruo Han, why did you come along? Su Yang is still immature; you should be staying home to rest, why are you out here?"
Zhou Ruohan replied, "Mom, it's not that delicate; some women are seven or eight months pregnant and still work. What am I? I'm being served every day, don't worry, I'm fine."
Su Yang stepped forward, patted Sun Chengjun on the shoulder, and said, "The mission was completed well; award a first‑class merit and give a verbal Commendation." With that, everyone burst into hearty laughter.
Ning Shu Yue saw Su Yang, a very unnatural expression flashed across her face, then she said generously, "Su Yang, hope you've been well!"
Su Yang replied, "If you are well, it's a sunny day. My brother has good character and health; he's the benchmark boyfriend for countless girls, so you've hit the jackpot this time."
Ning Shu Yue smiled shyly, "Then I should thank you for the gift." Saying that, the three of them, including Sun Chengjun, laughed.
Zhou Ruohan, arm‑in‑arm with Su Yang's mother, walked toward the car first; Zhou Tong sprinted over, busy greeting, then tried to carry things over, but Sun Chengjun politely declined, because his role was the bag‑carrying junior plus the official best man, and he couldn't let Zhou Tong take the job.
After getting in the car, Su Yang looked at his parents' brand‑new, expensive clothes and said, "Mom, Dad, when did you buy such pricey outfits? Aren't you always frugal?"
Zhou Ruohan added, "Actually I've already prepared clothes for you; they're waiting for you to wear when you arrive."
Old Su laughed, "It was Da Jun who bought them; I said no, but he insisted I wear them, so there was nothing I could do."
Su Yang thought, Sun Chengjun would never think of buying clothes for his parents; that was Ning Shu Yue's idea. He didn't bring it up again; if someone else had bought them, he'd surely repay, but since Sun Chengjun bought them, he accepted it without hesitation.
On the way, everyone chatted warmly. Especially Zhou Ruohan and Ning Shu Yue exchanged a few words; the last time they met it was amid clashing swords, but now things have changed, and ultimately Miss Zhou had the upper hand, winning a "tough guy," though Ning Shu Yue also gained something.
Only Zhou Tong kept driving in silence, head down, which was unlike her nature. Su Yang asked, "Is something wrong? If there's anything, tell me—don't keep it bottled up."
