Chapter 579: Experiment Record

~7 min read 1,350 words

San Yue Qi held Lin's hand and walked down the corridor, the footfalls absorbed by the thick carpet, leaving only a faint rustling sound.

The corridor was no different from the ones they had passed before—doors shut tight lined both sides, and the ceiling tubes cast a pallid white light that illuminated the whole space.

Abstract paintings hung on the walls, all depicting twisted banana shapes, which made anyone feel a chill in the heart.

Lin followed behind her, one hand held by San Yue Qi, the other hand clasping a gem.

Her breathing was still a bit rapid; after all, that quick passage had drained her stamina, and her legs were still weak.

"San Yue Jie," she whispered, "where are we going, banana?"

San Yue Qi was about to answer when the footsteps suddenly halted.

She raised her hand, signaling Lin not to make a sound.

Lin immediately held her breath and listened intently.

A light but dense series of footsteps came from ahead in the corridor, as if something was drawing near.

There was more than one set of footsteps—at least three or four—and they grew closer.

San Yue Qi looked around, her gaze landing on a door without a sign.

She pushed it, and the door was surprisingly not Lock.

"Come in."

The two slipped into the room and gently closed the door.

The room was pitch black; one couldn't see a hand in front of one's face.

San Yue Qi leaned against the door, perking up her ears to listen to the sounds outside.

Lin stood beside her, daring not to breathe.

The footsteps grew nearer and nearer, finally stopping outside the door.

San Yue Qi could feel those things standing just outside, only a door's width away.

She could even hear their breathing—a wheezing, slightly hoarse "huff huff" sound, definitely not something a human could make.

A few seconds later, the footsteps sounded again, gradually fading away.

San Yue Qi let out a long breath, then began to survey the surroundings.

The room was spacious; the faint light filtering through the curtain cracks revealed a luxuriously decorated suite.

It had a living room, a bedroom, and even an open kitchen.

The furniture was dark solid wood, the sofa covered with velvet cushions, and the coffee table displayed several oddly shaped sculptures.

But the most striking feature was the bananas placed everywhere.

A plate of bananas sat on the coffee table, a basket of bananas on the dining table, rows of bananas jammed onto the bookshelf, and even a few bananas rolled on the floor.

The whole room was suffused with a strong banana scent, sweet to the point of being cloying.

Lin pinched her nose and muttered softly, "What kind of creepy place is this, banana..."

San Yue Qi gave no answer, but walked to the window and gently pulled aside a curtain slit to look outside.

Outside was a grayish mirror world, the streets empty, with occasional Monkeys wandering.

She lowered the curtain, turned around, and began to examine the room carefully.

Various incomprehensible charts hung on the wall, filled with all kinds of lines and symbols.

Thick folders lined the bookshelf, their covers labeled, but the characters on them were all Reverse Characters, and San Yue Qi couldn't recognize any of them.

"Lin, come take a look at these," she called Lin over.

Lin walked to the bookshelf, picked up a folder, and opened it.

The Reverse Characters gradually became clear to her eyes, as if someone had righted each one.

"What does this say?" San Yue Qi leaned over to ask.

Lin frowned, stared for a while, then said:

"This is... Experiment Record, banana."

"What experiment?"

Lin flipped through a few more pages, her complexion gradually turning serious.

"This is an experiment about Fusion, banana..."

San Yue Qi blinked, "Fusion? What Fusion?"

Lin didn't answer immediately, but continued to leaf through the documents.

San Yue Qi also didn't disturb her, and began to search the room.

She opened the desk drawer, which was packed with all sorts of junk—several withered bananas, a few oddly shaped parts, and a thick notebook.

She took out the notebook and opened it; its pages were also filled with Reverse Characters, dense and overwhelming, making her eyes spin.

"Lin, take a look at this."

Lin took the notebook, flipped through a few pages, and her eyes widened.

"This... this is a Plan Document, banana..."

"What plan?"

Lin inhaled deeply and began to explain.

It turned out that Jiaoshou—more precisely, the Monkeys wearing a white lab coat—had acted with purpose in everything they did.

It wanted to fuse the real world with this mirror world, making the two become one.

"The method of Fusion is through those Banana Characters, banana."

Lin pointed to the notes, "When people in the real world speak with a Banana Character, they establish a link with the Monkeys of this world, banana. As the Banana Character appears more frequently, that link grows stronger, banana."

San Yue Qi listened, utterly confused.

"So... those who Add Banana to End of Speech become Monkeys?"

Lin nodded, then shook her head.

"It's not just turning into a monkey banana. It's Fusion banana—people from the real world and the monkeys of this world will merge into one banana. A person's consciousness will disappear, leaving only the monkey's instincts banana."

San Yue Qi's mouth opened slowly.

"Does that mean… everyone in Dongmu City…"

Lin's complexion turned sour.

"It's not just Dongmu City banana."

She flipped to the last few pages of the notebook, "Jiaoshou says this is only a test field banana. If this test succeeds, it will spread this method to the whole planet banana—making everyone turn into monkeys banana."

The room fell silent for a few seconds.

"No way," San Yue Qi said, "We must never let this happen."

Lin nodded, but her brows remained tightly locked.

"But how do we banana? That Jiaoshou has already been dealt with banana…"

San Yue Qi was stunned for a moment.

Yeah, that monkey had already been shot by her into a sieve.

Then these plans…

She suddenly recalled the final appearance of that banana—a whole, intact banana, with no damage.

She was too exhausted then to think much, but now recalling…

"That guy… maybe didn't die completely?"

Lin blinked, "What does that mean banana?"

San Yue Qi recounted the circumstances when she shot Jiaoshou.

After listening, Lin was silent for a moment, then said:

"If this Jiaoshou can really be dealt with that easily, it's too weak banana. How could a being capable of devising such a plan be taken down by a few arrows banana?"

San Yue Qi nodded, finding it reasonable.

At that moment, she suddenly remembered something.

"Lin, how did you recognize those characters?"

Lin was startled, lowered her head to look at the notebook in her hand, and her complexion turned deathly pale.

She finally realized the issue.

Those characters were reversed.

A normal person would find it hard not to understand.

But she read them with ease.

"I… why can I read banana?" Lin's voice trembled.

San Yue Qi looked at her, a foreboding feeling rising in her heart.

"Could it be…"

Lin raised her hand, looking at her palm.

There was nothing abnormal there, but she knew something inside her body was changing silently.

"Am I banana going to become a monkey banana?"

Her voice was very soft, almost inaudible.

San Yue Qi grabbed her shoulder.

"It won't happen! There must be a way to solve this!"

Lin looked at her, her blue eyes filled with complex light—fear, confusion, and a trace of something indescribable.

"San Yue Jie… if I really turn banana into a monkey banana…"

"It won't happen." San Yue Qi interrupted her, "I will definitely find a way."

She released Lin and began searching the room more vigorously.

"There must be a way. Since that Jiaoshou could devise this plan, there must be a solution left. Does the notebook mention it?"

Lin took a deep breath, forced herself to stay calm, and continued flipping through the documents.

"Let me banana…"
