Chapter 632: Who Is It Aimed At?
Her voice was soft, "What exactly do you want to do?"
San Yue Qi stuck her head out from the other side of the window and glanced upward.
Jing Yuan was still suspended in midair, the Golden Spear already held horizontally before him, tip upward, butt downward, his whole body blocking between those ripples and the building where they were hiding.
Behind him, the Divine Lord was still bound by a Lock chain, and golden lightning would flicker intermittently in the gaps of the chain, each flash dying out, like a candle about to burn out making its final struggle.
The figure in black armor stood at the edge of the rooftop, arms crossed, watching it all as if watching a play that had nothing to do with him.
The black‑red ripples still swirled behind him, the weapons kept poking their heads out of the ripples, yet he neither let them fall nor recalled them.
He just stood there, motionless, silent, only watching.
San Yue Qi pulled her head back, pressed her back against the wall, and took a breath.
"I don't know, but he definitely wasn't fighting seriously. If he were serious—"
She didn't continue, just shook her head.
Lin crouched beside her, the Tail looping from behind her skirt to the front, clenched by her own hand until the tip was flattened.
Her lips moved as if to say something, then she swallowed it, tried to swallow again but couldn't, and finally said, "Is he waiting for some banana?"
San Yue Qi froze for a moment, and Bai Hang also froze.
The two exchanged a glance and simultaneously looked at Lin.
Lin felt a bit uneasy under their two gazes; the Tail slipped from her hand, swung behind her, then drooped again.
"I'm just guessing banana… If he wanted to kill our banana, those weapons wouldn't have missed. If he wanted to catch our banana, he wouldn't just stand there watching banana. Since he does nothing banana, he must be waiting for some banana."
San Yue Qi's mouth stayed open, not closing.
She wanted to say "Isn't that obvious?" but opened her mouth and said nothing, because she thought Lin was right.
That guy did nothing at all, just stood there, arms crossed, watching, as if waiting for the right moment, waiting for something.
But she didn't know what he was waiting for; she only knew he didn't want to kill them now, at least not for the moment.
Bai Hang rose from beneath the window, crouched and walked to the other side of the corridor, where a larger window offered a view farther away.
She stuck her head out, stared at the sky for a long time, so long that San Yue Qi thought she might have been fixed in place by something; just as she was about to reach out and pull her, she withdrew.
"Jing Yuan said,"
"That Lock chain can't hold him for long. He told us not to worry about this side and to go to the building to find Jiaoshou."
She paused at this point, lowered her head to look at the Command Spell still glowing on the back of her hand; the light was dimmer than before but not gone, and continued, "He also said that the one called Gilgamesh wasn't coming at him."
San Yue Qi was stunned.
"Not coming at him? Then who is it coming for?"
Bai Hang gave no answer, just stared at her.
San Yue Qi felt uncomfortable under that gaze and pointed at her own nose.
"Coming at me?"
Bai Hang neither nodded nor shook her head, but relayed the last line of the Command Spell verbatim: "He said that guy hasn't taken his eyes off this building since just now."
She pointed at the ground with her finger, then at the outside, "He's looking at us."
San Yue Qi felt a chill run down her back again.
Lin crouched in the corner, the Tail swaying slowly behind, the hair at the tip sparking as if trying to digest what Bai Hang had just said.
After half a day of processing, she lifted her head; her eyes shone excessively in the dim light, holding a kind of glow that San Yue Qi couldn't quite comprehend.
"San Yue Jie, banana,"
Her voice was very soft, so soft that San Yue Qi almost didn't hear, "What he said is true, banana. That Golden Flash Banana, since just now, banana, hasn't looked anywhere else, banana."
At that moment San Yue Qi also felt it; since just now, two gazes were fixed on this building, as if something from high above pressed down, making her shoulders ache.
She didn't understand why that guy was watching her; she only knew one thing—just because he isn't killing her now doesn't mean he won't later; she must finish the task before he changes his mind.
She inhaled deeply, let the breath circulate in her chest, exhaled, then stood, walked to the window, stuck half a head out from the sill, and glanced upward.
Those two gazes remained, heavy, pressing on top of her head, as if something covered them and wouldn't lift.
She neither dodged nor withdrew, just stuck her head out, stared at the black‑armored figure standing at the rooftop edge for three seconds.
Then she pulled back, turned, and looked at the two.
"Let's go."
"Go find Jiaoshou."
Perspective shift.
Ilya was speaking with that cluster of cyan Flame, while the roaring outside never ceased.
The sounds came through an unknown number of walls, like someone turning over deep underground, causing stones that had pressed on them for centuries to shift a few inches.
She hadn't paid much attention; since entering this cursed place, the noise never stopped, intermittent; far away it sounded like wind through an empty room, close it resembled someone hammering a wall next door.
But now the commotion felt off, getting nearer, so near she could hear the intervals between sounds shrinking visibly, as if something was racing toward her, each stride huge, each landing louder than the last.
Ilya cradled the ruby and glanced toward the door.
The door had just been blown open by Weiba Daye, fragments scattering onto the grayish open ground outside; now through that gap one could see the edge of the ruins, the crooked pillars and toppled stone statues casting shadows in the dim light, but the source of the sounds was invisible, the noises surged from all directions, bouncing around the three‑wall room, making her unable to discern direction.
"Do you feel…"
Her voice was very low, "That sound seems to be getting closer?"
Weiba Daye floated above her head, the Flame‑formed face tilting toward the door, then again, as if confirming something.
It said nothing, but the Flame burned brighter than before, the face's outline sharpening, eyes narrowed, mouth pursed into a crooked line, the expression shifting from the earlier carefree look to a seriousness Ilya had never seen.
The ruby flickered faintly in her palm, the cracks on the staff's shaft had largely healed, her speech still stuttered, but at least she no longer had to pause between every sentence to catch her breath.
