Chapter 810: New home?
Sai Fei Er shoved the coin back into her pocket, crossed her arms over her chest, leaned against the wall, and looked down at the trash can: "Is this enough?"
The trash can remained silent for a moment.
Then the lid was pushed up a little from inside, first a gap, then it slowly moved upward half an inch.
A loli face peered out from the gap between the trash can lid and its body, purple hair glowing softly in the sunlight, purplish-red inverted-cross pupils gazing mechanically around, a single ahoge slightly bent, sweeping over the edge of the lid.
Xi Tong only showed half her head, her chin still hidden in the trash can, looking somewhat like a small cat hiding in a cardboard box observing the outside world.
Sai Fei Er crossed her arms, leaned her shoulder against the wall beside her, lowered her gaze at the scene, and her tail lazily swept a circle behind her.
"So—why are you in the trash can?"
Xi Tong spoke flatly, her voice still that monotonous, inorganic tone: "It cannot be spoken of."
Sai Fei Er chuckled.
Her canine flashed at the corner of her mouth, her cat ears twitched forward: "I think you're hiding from that guy."
The system didn't speak.
"And where exactly is Bai Zi?"
Sai Fei Er lowered her voice, her tail sweeping a low arc behind her.
She leaned forward slightly and, in an exaggerated tone, described: "I think that former Luofu Sword Leader—her tailing is simply shadow-like, appearing and disappearing unpredictably, chilling to the bone, enough to make cat fur stand on end. I've never been pursued by anyone this long, from morning till night; no matter which alley, warehouse, or teahouse I hid in, she could always find me. Precise positioning."
Xi Tong's purplish-red inverted-cross pupils turned to glance at her, her ahoge bending slightly.
Then her lips moved, uttering four words: "It cannot be spoken of."
Sai Fei Er almost couldn't hold back.
She covered her face with one hand, took a deep breath, then lowered her hand and looked at the system with a "can you say something useful?" expression: "Can't say, can't say, nothing can be said. So I want to ask you, where is your boss now? Can't she handle it?"
Xi Tong glanced at her askance.
That gaze held no emotion, but Sai Fei Er felt it was saying, "How naïve you are."
"The lady is currently handling an important matter. I am in charge here."
Sai Fei Er looked down at the system, only half its head showing from the trash can, and fell silent for a moment.
"Then go ahead and control it."
Her cat tail flicked behind her, "We've already reached home, and you're still digging in the trash can—hurry up and control it!"
The system averted its gaze elsewhere.
Sai Fei Er's mouth twitched.
"Quite the companion. Well, fine."
She sighed, her cat ears twitched to either side, and her tail drooped to brush the ground twice.
Then she lifted her head again, "So why did you summon me? Are you perhaps wanting me to tour your new home?"
As she spoke, she sized up the metal trash can from top to bottom: a round body, sheet metal, a few shallow dents on the surface, and a black sealing ring around the lid's edge.
The inside of the trash can had clearly been cleaned by the system, no odor, and even lined with a layer of purple plush fabric of unknown origin.
Sai Fei Er evaluated it with a professional thief's eye: concealment not bad, comfort passable, but ventilation worrisome.
Xi Tong ignored her teasing.
She extended a slender, fair hand from the gap in the trash can lid, fingertips crooking toward Sai Fei Er, signaling her to come closer.
Sai Fei Er raised an eyebrow, bent over, and leaned toward the trash can.
Xi Tong whispered a few words in her ear, only Sai Fei Er could hear clearly.
A faint scent drifted from the gap between the lid and the body of the trash can.
Sai Fei Er straightened up, giving the system a strange look.
"Like this?"
Xi Tong nodded.
Then she squatted back into the trash can, pulled the lid down with both hands, and fastened it tightly.
The metal lid striking the body made a dull "thud."
The trash can returned to silence, indistinguishable from any ordinary trash can on the street.
Sai Fei Er stood before the trash can, her mouth twitching twice.
Then the corners of her mouth began to turn up—from a twitch to a smile, from a smile to a broad grin flashing her canine.
She turned around, back to the trash can, her cat tail rising behind her into a question mark then unfurling.
In her sapphire-blue eyes reflected the bustling crowd at the street's end, and Gui Naifen performing acrobatics.
Given that, she was about to pull off something big.
She stepped forward, her gold long boots striking the stone-paved road of Changletian with a clear ring.
Her silver-gray cat tail rose high behind her, the icy-blue tip tracing a light arc in the sunlight.
Sai Fei Er walked toward the crowd, a flipping coin appearing between her fingers at some point, the gold coin tumbling in her grasp and flashing specks of golden light.
The perspective shifted.
As Xing emerged from the Shen Ce Fu, her steps were extremely arrogant.
Both hands tucked into her coat pockets, chin slightly raised, the corner of her mouth bearing a hint of a mysterious smile.
Her shoulder-length gray hair caught a faint silver sheen in the Changletian sunlight, her golden eyes half-lidded, pupils still retaining the shock and excitement from having just witnessed in the Shen Ce Fu Qingque pressing Fu Xuan into a chair and forcefully kissing her.
She had stored that video on her phone—complete, high-definition, uncut.
At the moment Qingque's lips met Fu Xuan's, she pressed the record button.
She didn't miss a single frame of Fu Xuan's face turning from white to red and then crashing outright.
The only regret was that Qingque suddenly went limp with a "ga ba" sound after the kiss and collapsed unconscious, missing the even more explosive aftermath.
Yet just the first half of the footage, she had already edited three versions in her mind.
However, her focus is no longer on the video.
Because she saw a trash can!
By Chang Le Tian Street, a round metal trash can stood upright in the wall corner.
The metal surface bore several shallow dents, the lid fit tightly, and a black sealing ring ran around the edge.
Sunlight slanted down from the opposite eaves, coating the trash can's metal surface with an extremely faint golden halo.
Tiny specks of dust drifted slowly in the light around the trash can, as if the whole can were glowing.
Xing's eyes widened.
In those golden pupils, the trash can's outline was reflected, and the golden ring at the edge of the pupils spread outward at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Her breath caught for a moment.
This trash can——this appearance.
This curvature.
This steady, upright posture standing in the wall corner.
Every dent on the metal was just right, as if deliberately aged as a craft piece.
The lid and body fit together at textbook level; even the black sealing ring was clean and shining.
