Chapter 875: Go!
Perspective shift.
Sai Fei Er stood on the stone‑slab path, her shoe soles as if glued to the ground; in front of her, Jing Liu still held the stance of leaning on a sword, the black eye mask covering most of her face, revealing only a sharply defined jaw and a pair of pale lips.
The cold light of the Ancient Sea poured down from above the cliff wall, tinting her white hair with a thin wash of cyan‑blue.
She did not move, and Sai Fei Er did not move.
In the air there was only the faint sound of distant water droplets striking the stone, and the increasingly loud thump of Sai Fei Er's own heartbeat in her ears.
Standing like this won't do.
Sai Fei Er repeated the sentence in her mind three times.
She knows Jing Liu, or rather, she knows the Jing Liu intel that Xi Tong gave her.
The former Sword Leader isn't the type to break silence proactively; she can stand in the same spot all day, saying nothing, not moving a hair, until you yourself crack and show your hand.
Thus, the longer the silence drags on, the more detrimental it is to oneself.
So Sai Fei Er inhaled deeply, drawing the cold, icy vapor in her chest together with her courage into her lungs, then raised her right hand.
She lifted her hand boldly, swinging it twice in mid‑air.
"Eh—"
She lifted a bright, casual arc, and her fox ears bounced forward, "What a coincidence, Jing Liu!"
After speaking, she mentally gave her own voice a thumbs‑up.
That greeting was skillfully delivered, matching Bai Hang's personality of being able to strike up a conversation regardless of the other's demeanor;
yet it wasn't overly exaggerated.
But Jing Liu gave no response.
Seeing this, Sai Fei Er hesitated briefly, then clenched her teeth, steeled herself, pushed off hard with her foot, and took a step forward.
She walked while withdrawing her right hand from the air, scratching her head.
"I heard you were looking for me, is that right?"
She tilted her head as she said the line, her fox ears tilting likewise, white hair slipping down from her shoulders.
A smile lingered at the corner of her mouth.
But the farther she walked, the heavier the chill became, seeping out from the gaps in her bones, a cold laced with murderous intent.
It was as if an entire glacier had been compressed into threads, winding around her skin strand by strand.
The exposed arm instantly sprouted a dense carpet of gooseflesh.
Sai Fei Er drew a sharp breath of cold air in her mind.
Good grief, has this sister's body temperature signed a long‑term lease with the River of the Underworld?
She almost wanted to rub her arms, but held back in time.
"Sss— I'm saying, Jing Liu,"
"Bai Hang" shrugged her shoulders, her fox tail flicked twice behind her as if shaking off frost, "Why are you still so cold? I remember when I brought you wine you were like a block of ice; after all these years you haven't changed a bit."
After speaking, she took two more steps forward; now she was less than five paces from Jing Liu.
"Bai Hang" saw that the other's lips were completely flat, not even a hint of a curve.
Sai Fei Er beat a drum in her mind.
Is this sister really still alive?
No—she quickly erased the forbidden word from her thoughts.
It should be said: her condition is very subtle.
She stood there motionless, her breathing so faint it was almost invisible, the whole figure like a statue sealed by cold.
The eyes beneath the black eye mask seemed to look nowhere in particular, yet Sai Fei Er could feel that gaze piercing out from under the mask, coldly pressing against her face.
This feeling of being watched was completely different from Dan Heng's.
Jing Liu's stare resembled a silent judgment; anyone she fixed her gaze upon felt an invisible sword pressed to their throat.
Sai Fei Er shifted her gaze away from Jing Liu's face and pretended to glance around.
The Ancient Sea's surface was as smooth as a mirror, the stone statue of the Prayer Dragon Altar stood quietly in the distance, yet her fox ears twitched subtly atop her head, catching a discordant noise—a distant impact from behind, the clang of metal on metal, and occasional splashes of exploding water.
Combat.
Dan Heng and Blade have already started fighting.
Being able to hear the commotion from such a distance indicates the battle is quite intense.
"Um— Jing Liu,"
Sai Fei Er turned her head to look at Jing Liu, her tone a bit more relaxed, "Shall we stop standing here and go somewhere else? This Scale Abyss Realm is so gloomy, staying too long I feel like moss will start growing."
She said this while edging another half‑step toward Jing Liu.
Jing Liu remained where she was, hand resting on the sword hilt, the black eye mask facing her direction, lips pursed into a faint, emotionless line.
It was as if the entire paragraph she had just spoken fell into a deep well, not even a splash.
Sai Fei Er's smile froze on her face for a fraction of a second.
This silence was more hair‑raising than any interrogation.
She would rather Jing Liu, like last time, draw her sword directly; at least if the sword is drawn she knows how to flee.
Now standing before her, saying nothing, not drawing a sword, not moving, is like using silence to peel her apart inch by inch, to see exactly where the mismatch lies.
"Jing Liu?"
Sai Fei Er lowered her voice.
Her fox ears tipped back slightly, and her lips pursed lightly.
She clasped both hands in front of her, fingers interlacing, hesitated for two seconds, then leaned forward a bit, tiptoeing so her line of sight could align with Jing Liu's chin.
"Are you okay?"
Fox Ears turned uneasily atop its head.
"Since I came back I've been trying to find you, but, in the end I just couldn't. Later I heard Sai Fei Er say you were looking for me, so I thought I had to come see you right away."
She inched forward another half‑inch, performed a very Bai Hang‑like motion, extended her hand, and with the tip of her index finger lightly jabbed the back of the hand that Jing Liu was holding the sword hilt with.
Just a moment.
Ice.
This was the first—and only—signal transmitted from Sai Fei Er's fingertip.
The bone‑piercing chill traveled from the fingertip skin straight to the nerve endings, then raced up the arm to the back of the head.
She almost instinctively withdrew her hand, but she forced herself to hold back, letting the index finger linger on Jing Liu's back of the hand for two beats before pulling back.
Jing Liu's hand twitched slightly.
The thumb paused half a beat at the edge of the sword guard, then gradually released the hilt.
The hand that had been perched on the hilt as if it had grown a root finally let go completely, hanging at the side.
Her lips opened.
"Go."
Just a single word.
The moment the words fell, Sai Fei Er hadn't yet grasped what that "go" meant, when Jing Liu had already bent over.
Jing Liu's movement was extremely swift and decisive; his left hand slipped through Sai Fei Er's knee bend, his right hand steadied her back, and, as if cradling a bundle of light straw, he lifted the Fox People girl entirely into his embrace.
The white hair interlaced and scattered in that instant.
Jing Liu's body heat pressed through the layers of clothing, an uncompromising cold.
In that second, Sai Fei Er's mind went through the following three emotional stages.
First Stage: Huh? What?
Second Stage: She picked me up? Jing Liu picked me up?
Third Stage: Cold—aaaaa—!
Her mouth opened automatically in the third stage; a scream hadn't even had time to burst from her throat before the oncoming cold wind blocked it back.
