Chapter 26: The Thin Daoist and the Jin Xiang Sect Young Hero
The Thin Daoist watched the talisman arrow fall onto a small island nearby, so how could he not know that someone was hiding there?
"Which madman dares to take advantage of your grandfather!"
The Thin Daoist was anxious. Going north was entirely his temporary idea. Poyanghu was so big that it was impossible for anyone to ambush him in advance; it could only be someone who didn't know any better and happened to run into him here.
However, this person had good mantra techniques, and the two mantra techniques he used were both one-character mantras, so he was probably not a simple character.
The young hero of the Jin Xiang Sect was as silent as ever. It was not easy to make a move when they were far apart just now, but now that the Thin Daoist was blocked, the distance had narrowed, and there were more means available.
The two had already tested each other; whatever talismans or techniques they had, they had already used. Now it was time to decide the winner.
The young hero held the pipa in both arms, his slender, fair fingers dancing among the six phases and twenty-four frets. This time, the string sounds were no longer single notes, but a continuous melody, especially his right hand, which almost turned into a mass of white moonlight.
An intense melody rang out, and the lake surface beneath the young hero also began to ripple. At first, it was just ripples, but the ripples formed faster and faster, the intervals between circles smaller and smaller, yet higher and higher. The ripples jumped incessantly, finally bursting into countless fine water droplets. With the young hero as the center, the lake surface within a fifty-step radius was like boiling water!
And this was just the strange phenomenon caused by the pipa sound spreading to the surroundings, while the magic intent truly contained in the melody all surged toward the Thin Daoist.
The pipa string sound was now materialized, and vaguely, it seemed as if a spirited white eagle rushed out from the pipa, pouncing toward the Thin Daoist.
The Thin Daoist could no longer care about the talisman arrow. He looked at the flickering white eagle with uncertainty. He had originally thought this was just a miscellaneous disciple of the Jin Xiang Sect passing by, so he had played along, pretending to flee, intending to lure him to the edge of this great lake to kill him and rob him of his wealth.
But now it seemed the situation was not good. This person had chased for so long and still had abundant magic power, and that pipa was not an ordinary item; he was definitely not an ordinary disciple. And there was that mantra expert hiding in the grass. Could it be that the Zhou family's purchasing manager was a bait, and it was truly a trap to lure and kill him?
Was it worth it?
Regardless, the Thin Daoist put away his playful attitude and began to use his real skills.
He took out a banner. The flag was gray, with a black beast-head pattern painted on it. The beast-head pattern was extremely abstract and rough: a pair of giant eyes, a nose under the eyes, and curled horns above the eyes, somewhat like a bull's head, but without a lower lip, or rather, the entire mouth was integrated with the flag surface.
Looking directly at the beast pattern, it seemed as if one's mind would be captured. It felt like an evil and ominous object, but it had a kind of ferocious beauty.
The white eagle of sound arrived with the sound, and wherever it passed, the lake surface shattered into a string.
The Thin Daoist shook the beast-head banner, and little ghosts actually floated out from the flag.
These little ghosts were all in the shape of beasts—tigers, leopards, snakes, bulls—and they all grew to their real size in the wind, gathering in groups to meet the white eagle.
Using form against form, using formless against formless.
The white eagle was fierce, instantly shattering the tigers and leopards in front, but its form also dissipated a bit.
"Yee!"
It was the white eagle crying, but the sound originated from the pipa in the Jin Xiang Sect young hero's hand. The tone and pitch were so vivid.
The young hero's right hand brought out a winding string, his left hand stretched with a sliding sound, and the divine eagle shook its spirit, spread its wings and flew high, its claws like hooks, striking straight at the beast soul's crown.
Like a dragonfly skimming the water, the beast soul was vulnerable under the white eagle's claws, and in the blink of an eye, it was torn to shreds.
The young hero's right hand rolled and wound the strings, his left hand accompanied by chanting, the string sound like the triumphant cry of the white eagle after catching its prey.
The white eagle shook its head and tail, rushing straight at the Thin Daoist again.
The Thin Daoist laughed in anger. "You are powerful, let's see how powerful you really are!"
The Thin Daoist shook the banner violently, and a black smoke seemed to rise from the flag.
The black smoke dispersed, but looking closely, it was not black smoke at all, but countless little ghosts!
The little ghosts were like dark clouds, submerging the white eagle. No matter how the young hero plucked, the white eagle could never rush out of the dark clouds.
And the dark clouds suppressed the white eagle with spare energy, splitting off some from within and flying toward the young hero.
Looking closely, the little ghosts flying toward the young hero were not beast souls; looking at their appearance, they were clearly human souls!
The human souls had heads but no bodies, making shrill, miserable cries from their mouths.
At this moment, the Jin Xiang Sect young hero's face turned pale, and he finally understood how the Thin Daoist, a small demon in the Qi Refining stage, had made a name for himself in the Jiang Nan area.
The young hero pretended to be calm, played the song again, and summoned a white eagle.
However, the white eagle's sound phase was much more transparent than the previous one, almost invisible to the naked eye, which was instead telling the Thin Daoist that his magic power was running low.
Sure enough, the Thin Daoist laughed strangely, no different from the human-headed ghost's laughter, which made people feel annoyed and disgusted.
Seven or eight human-headed ghosts disheveled their hair, baring their teeth and biting the white eagle. The poor white eagle was bitten everywhere by the human-headed ghosts, unable to maintain its form, turning into several sound blades and falling into the lake, exploding into countless waves.
One move affected the whole body. The second white eagle fell, and the Jin Xiang Sect young hero's magic power was insufficient, watching as the first white eagle also gradually disappeared under the gnawing of the little ghosts.
However, the Thin Daoist's face was not good either. The pipa was not an ordinary item, and the young man's string sounds and gold-element magic power were not simple either. The little ghosts he had painstakingly accumulated had suffered quite a loss.
He did not want any more changes, so he waved the banner, summoning the remaining little ghosts to pounce on the Jin Xiang Sect disciple. As for the mantra expert hiding in the grass, he was timid and didn't look like a character, so he could deal with him later.
However, the Jin Xiang Sect young hero did not intend to be captured without a fight. He suddenly hammered his chest, hammering six times in a row until he vomited blood.
Although the Thin Daoist didn't know what this madman was going to do, it was definitely not a good thing, and his hand shaking the banner became faster.
"Submerge!" Another mantra sound appeared.
A giant wave suddenly rose on the lake between the Thin Daoist and the Jin Xiang Sect young hero.
It was as if the lake surface was a piece of cloth, and suddenly a hand came, pinched a point on the cloth, and lifted it up!
The giant wave water curtain first blocked the little ghosts, then fell toward the little ghosts and the Thin Daoist. This water curtain rose so fast that no one reacted.
This water was a physical object, but the little ghosts were formless. Besides blocking the view for a while, it was of no use, instead soaking the Thin Daoist thoroughly.
It was just that blocking the view gave the Jin Xiang Sect young hero some time.
Just as the water curtain fell and splashed, a dazzling golden light blurred everyone's eyes, like a small sun rising on the southern shore of Poyanghu.
The Thin Daoist screamed repeatedly, and those little ghosts melted away like ice and snow meeting the spring sun.
However, the Jin Xiang Sect young hero was not having a good time either. The source of the golden light was held in his palm. The golden light was scorching, and he couldn't see what it was, but he could see the bright red blood stained on it. The young hero's magic power was exhausted, his essence and blood lost, and his originally fair and handsome face was now as pale as gold paper.
Immediately after, the young hero could not even maintain the magic tool beneath his feet and fell onto the lake. Fortunately, the young hero's flying magic tool was essentially a feather the size of a small boat, not a flying sword or anything else, and it was still supporting the young hero floating on the lake.
The Thin Daoist's little ghosts, accumulated over many years, were swept away, and he was naturally resentful in his heart. He muttered words and danced the banner, but this time, the beast head on the banner seemed to be coming alive.
"Demon, you are courting death!"

Shouts suddenly came from afar.
And the young hero sitting on the feather breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the shouts.
The Thin Daoist looked troubled. Should he kill or flee?
Forget it!
A ten-generation grudge can still be avenged.
If he fought any longer today, he would likely damage the foundation of the banner, which would be a loss that outweighed the gain.
And the ridiculous thing was that the cause was just killing a manager in a remote corner, just robbing some wealth. He hadn't even collected his soul, and this little madman of the Jin Xiang Sect wanted to kill him so badly?
He was crazy enough to vomit blood to take out a treasure, but he wasn't crazy.
Of the thirty-six stratagems, fleeing is the best. Don't let the small one be blocked by the big one, that would be capsizing in the gutter.
And there was that mantra expert lurking in the grass...
The Thin Daoist had the intention to leave, turned around and wanted to go, still holding a breath in his heart. The one from the Jin Xiang Sect was crazy, but the mantra expert hiding nearby was truly hateful, repeatedly spoiling his plans!
It was hateful that he hadn't even had a chance to see his true face!
The Thin Daoist had already turned around, the gray mist surged, and he was about to leave.
"Burn!"
It was that mantra sound again!
The Thin Daoist was furious. This time he didn't care; he was determined to go into the grass and fight that mantra expert!
Huh?
But?
Seems like there's no movement?
The Thin Daoist didn't feel any magic intent falling on him.
"Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump!"
Something fell into the water.
The Thin Daoist realized later, raised his right hand to look, and there was a big hole in the bottom of the dew-collecting pouch, and it was still burning!
That thief burned the dew-collecting pouch!
"Ghost Fire!"
The Thin Daoist cursed again, but the reinforcements from the south were already close...
"Ah!"
The Thin Daoist let out a long roar and rode the mist away.
