Vol. 6 Ch. 67
“You three… what are you sneaking around here for?”
Veronica rose from the table, her pale silver eyes sweeping over the three of them before finally settling on Leon.
The matter of Leon’s human identity had been revealed long ago, when Isha had laid out the cards. In truth, both she and Grandmother had already suspected as much, though they had never explicitly pointed it out.
And now, this meeting with Grandmother Veronica was also a moment of reckoning for Leon’s identity.
Adding to that, the fact that the old lady was staring straight at him from the start made him inevitably nervous.
“Grandmother… I… We were just—”
Veronica slowly closed her eyes, her stern face softening as a helpless smile appeared.
She let out a quiet sigh, stepped forward, and walked toward the door of the Headmaster’s office. With her back turned to the three of them, she spoke unhurriedly.
“You’re already here, so you might as well go in and listen.”
With that, Grandmother Veronica knocked on the door of the Headmaster’s office. “It’s me, Veronica Melkvey.”
Olette, the Headmaster, promptly responded. “Coming.”
The door slowly opened.
The Headmaster had assumed that only Grandmother was outside, but the moment he saw who was standing there, his tone faltered slightly.
“Oh, you’re here as well. Perfect, that saves me the trouble of sending someone to fetch you.”
Upon hearing this, Leon furrowed his brows slightly.
“Saves the trouble of sending someone to fetch you”—so the Headmaster had originally intended to invite them here anyway?
Even stranger was the fact that, aside from the three of them, the one who had claimed her surname was also Melkvey—Cecilia—was already inside the office?
If you are reading this translation anywhere other than Novelight.net or SilkRoadTL, it has been stolen.
Leon pressed his lips together and glanced at Rosvisser beside him.
The queen looked equally puzzled.
The husband and wife exchanged an almost imperceptible nod before withdrawing their gazes and following Grandmother Veronica into the Headmaster’s office.
Upon entering, Leon immediately saw Cecilia sitting in front of the Headmaster’s desk.
She sat with her back to them, her posture elegant.
Upon hearing movement, Cecilia rose from her chair and slowly turned to face them.
The moment they saw her face, Isha and Rosvisser were clearly stunned.
Her striking, ruby-like eyes were almost identical to Isha’s.
However, perhaps due to differences in temperament, Cecilia’s gaze lacked Isha’s sharp cleverness. Instead, it resembled a clear spring, gentle and tranquil.
Headmaster Olette glanced at Cecilia, then at the Melkvey sisters, who were still frozen in place, before smiling and clapping his hands to snap them out of their daze.
“Well, now that everyone’s here, even if it wasn’t exactly as planned and no one was fully prepared for this, isn’t life always full of surprises?”
The Headmaster was as adept as ever at lightening the mood.
“Now then… given the circumstances, Cecilia, why don’t you go ahead and introduce yourself?”
Cecilia nodded at Olette. “Thank you, Olette.”
Then, she turned her gaze back to the Melkvey sisters.
“Actually, on my way back, I thought for a long time about how to introduce myself to you.”
“No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t come up with anything.”
“In the end, I figured that rather than introducing myself first…”
“I should start by apologizing.”
As her words fell, Cecilia placed both hands before her abdomen and bowed slightly toward Isha and Rosvisser.
It wasn’t an exaggerated ninety-degree bow, but the sincerity of her apology was evident—along with…
A deep-seated guilt toward her daughters.
Rosvisser instinctively stepped forward, as if intending to stop Cecilia from being so formal.
But before she could take more than half a step, Isha raised a hand to stop her.
Rosvisser looked toward her elder sister, but Isha simply shook her head.
Cecilia straightened and continued speaking.
“As for who I really am…”
She smiled faintly, her gaze shifting toward Leon.
“I suppose my little Lo’s husband has already told you what just happened.”
“In the entire dragon race, only our family carries the surname Melkvey.”
Even though they had already expected this, hearing it directly from the woman herself still carried an undeniable weight.
In other words, this woman, Cecilia Melkvey, was Isha and Rosvisser’s mother.
The mother who had only ever existed in Grandmother Veronica’s stories, the mother who had spent hundreds of years pursuing a great mission without ever once returning to see her daughters…
Their silver and red eyes trembled.
Even though dragons were known for their longevity, which supposedly dulled their attachments to those around them, when it came to the very few parental bonds they had, emotions still surged uncontrollably.
Surprise, warmth, hesitation, uncertainty—along with a trace of anger and a touch of resentment.
A whirlwind of emotions churned within the sisters’ hearts, leaving them momentarily at a loss for words.
Grandmother Veronica and Headmaster Olette all remained silent.
Because they all understood—this was a standoff between mother and daughters.
And only they could resolve it.
After a brief silence, it was Rosvisser who spoke first.
Her voice trembled slightly, and the emotions in her gaze, once complicated, gradually gave way to yearning.
A misty layer seemed to settle over her silver eyes as she took a step forward, slowly raising a hand, her voice hoarse.
“Mother…”
Compared to Isha’s relatively composed reaction, Rosvisser was much more emotional.
After all, she was already a mother of four children and had lived with Leon for so long. Naturally, she was more sensitive when it came to emotions.
Even as the Silver Dragon Queen, she could not withstand a century’s worth of longing for her kin.
And this time, Isha did not stop her.
Rosvisser clutched the fabric of her dress and walked up to Cecilia.
After a brief moment of hesitation, Isha followed suit.
They were both significantly taller than Cecilia.
So when they stood face-to-face, Cecilia had to tilt her head slightly to meet their eyes.
“You two… have grown so tall and so beautiful.”
Cecilia reached out with both hands and gently cupped their faces.
“All these years, I’ve dreamed of what it would feel like to touch you.”
“And today, I finally know…”
“A foolish sentiment, isn’t it?”
“May I… may I hold you?”
The sisters didn’t speak. They simply leaned in slightly, closing the distance.
Cecilia opened her arms and pulled her daughters into a warm embrace.
“I’ve missed you both so much, Isha, little Lo… I’ve missed you so, so much…”
They held onto one another, basking in the warmth of a long-overdue reunion.
“I imagine they have a lot to talk about,” Olette murmured, moving toward the door. “Let’s take a walk outside and give them some time.”
With that, she stepped out.
Grandmother Veronica followed her.
Olette glanced at Rosvisser’s back and noticed how her shoulders were trembling ever so slightly.
Seeing this, she smiled in quiet satisfaction.
Then, she withdrew her gaze, stepped out of the Headmaster’s office, and gently closed the door behind her.
