Vol 6. Chapter 157: What a Beautiful World

~7 min read 1,362 words

The Void’s invasion was overwhelming. Just in terms of sheer numbers, they outnumbered the Silver Dragons by three or four times.

Even Milana, a mere maid, had to rush to the front lines at the very first moment.

But Milana’s combat prowess was nowhere near that of elite guards like Sherry. And with the enemy deploying such a terrifyingly overwhelming number of troops, Milana was quickly surrounded by dozens of Void Swarm Bugs.

The insects emitted a chilling, droning hum. Their sharp teeth were bared, rows of them glistening like spikes.

They seized their chance and lunged at the already exhausted Milana.

“Damn it...”

Milana closed her eyes, bracing herself for death.

But in the next instant, two bolts of lightning descended from the sky, obliterating the Void Swarm Bugs in front of her.

Milana slowly opened her eyes. “...Your Highness... Lady Noa!”

Noa didn’t linger. She activated her Primordial Mode and charged straight into the enemy ranks.

Leon crouched down beside Milana, looking her in the eyes. “You did well, Milana. Your mana is depleted — go to the rear and rest. And besides, you can’t afford to get hurt.”

Milana knew exactly what Leon meant by “you can’t afford to get hurt.”

Among the maids, she was the only one who was married {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} and had a child.

So she didn’t refuse. Milana stepped back a few paces and bowed her head. “Thank you, Your Highness.”

With that, she retreated from the battlefield under the protection of a fellow maid.

Leon withdrew his gaze and looked forward.

Noa was already rampaging through the enemy ranks.

Against these otherworldly creatures, the Overachiever Princess showed no mercy.

And Noa knew very well that if the Void wasn’t pushed back, her sister would become the next God of Time — forever trapped on that throne, never able to leave.

She would never allow that to happen.

Her father said he would stake his life to stop the enemy, and Noa would do no less.

Watching his daughter’s back, Leon’s eyes were filled with pride.

The eldest princess who once snuck out on covert missions had now become a formidable protector of her family.

Leon smiled, then charged forward to join Noa and the Silver Dragon warriors in battle.

The sounds of combat echoed endlessly.

Without a doubt, this battle against the Silver Dragons marked the official commencement of the Void’s invasion.

Back in the Far North, that had only been a setup to trap Leon and Rosvisser.

But here — this battlefield was the real, desperate struggle for survival.

More and more Void rifts opened in the sky, and more monstrous creatures poured out from them.

Soon, the Silver Dragon warriors realized that no matter how many enemies they killed, the Void creatures just kept coming.

“Has Princess Isha’s reinforcements not arrived yet?!”

Before the cry could fully escape the warrior’s mouth, Sherry, surrounded by the Swarm Bugs, turned to look at her squad members. “The Red Dragon Sanctuary is also under attack by the Void. While the scale isn’t as large as ours, it’s still enough to keep them tied down for a while.”

Sherry gritted her teeth, the blood trailing down her jaw and dripping to the ground.

With no other choice, she turned around and continued to fight desperately.

Meanwhile, at another section of the battlefield, Leon and Noa had just finished off another wave of enemies.

They stood back to back, breathing heavily.

“These monsters just keep coming, Dad,” Noa said.

“Yeah. Chronoz’s power is fading, and the Void Gates are about to completely break through.”

Leon gripped the Thundercloud Blade, his gaze fixed on the endless wave of Void creatures.

Despite the impending danger, Leon’s mind was still occupied with thoughts of his wife and daughters.

“We still haven't found Aurora... please, let nothing happen to them...”

“They’re coming again, Dad!” Noa warned.

Leon snapped back to the present, nodding firmly. “Alright, keep going!”

From a distance, the entire border of the Silver Dragon Territory was shrouded in a blackish-purple aura.

The battlefield was a sea of flames and clashing magic. Countless Void monsters surged forward, driving the Silver Dragons back toward the forest at the border.

If they crossed the forest, they would reach the sanctuary.

“We can’t let these monsters break through the forest line!”

Anna shouted, her voice echoing across the battlefield.

The warriors and maids responded in unison:

“Understood!”

“We will defend the Silver Dragon Territory to the death!”

If the Void broke through the forest, they would reach the sanctuary, where the princesses and their people were. That was the heart of the Silver Dragons.

Anna, Sherry, and the warriors spread their dragon wings, transforming into massive silver dragons to form a defensive wall.

But Leon, who had already faced these creatures in the Far North, rushed forward and shouted, “No! Don’t transform! Anna!”

Leon bellowed, “These bugs devoured a Dragon King in the Far North! Stay in your human forms as much as possible!”

The more dragonized they were, the more they would attract the Swarm Bugs. Lux and Lokiah had fallen because of that in the Far North.

Anna bit her lip, forcing herself to revert to human form.

But a few Silver Dragon maids weren’t quick enough and were swarmed by the bugs.

Anna watched in horror and fury as her comrades — the maids she had trained and fought alongside — were torn apart.

She could still hear their dying screams echoing in her ears.

Anna clenched her fists, the fire of rage blazing in her eyes. “You monsters... I’ll kill you all!”

Dragonfire erupted, scorching the swarm and burning the creatures to ash.

The sacrifice of their comrades reignited the fighting spirit of every Silver Dragon warrior.

They charged forward, clashing with the Void monsters in a desperate battle.

But the situation remained dire. Blood had already stained the white snow red.

Void rifts continued to open, and despite Leon and Noa’s best efforts, the monsters kept multiplying.

“There’s no end to them, Dad,” Noa said.

Leon stared at the Void rifts in the sky, the dark purple hue dyeing the heavens ominously.

He narrowed his eyes. “I have an idea. I want to try something.”

Noa blinked. “What is it?”

“These Void rifts aren’t stable. If we hit them with a powerful enough force, they’ll be disrupted and temporarily closed.”

Leon explained, “I noticed it during my last fight with a Void warrior. If we use Dragon Annihilation, we might be able to suppress them.”

Noa’s eyes glinted. “Got it. I’ll help.”

The two immediately put their plan into action.

Leon raised his right hand, and the already dark sky grew even darker as storm clouds gathered.

Lightning crackled through the clouds, thunder roaring.

Noa activated her Primordial Power.

They locked eyes, nodded, and unleashed their techniques:

Ultra S-Rank Lightning Magic: Dragon Annihilation!

Primordial Magic: Holy Radiance Absorption!

Thunder roared as a massive dragon of lightning crashed down from the clouds, encased in a blinding holy light.

The combined impact spread across the battlefield, suppressing the Void rifts and severing the supply of reinforcements.

Noa’s eyes shone. “Dad, we did it!”

But Leon’s heart remained heavy. Despite the temporary victory, he could feel it — a deeper, darker power approaching.

Just then, a chilling purple light split the ground open in a cross shape.

Leon tensed, placing Noa behind him as he fixed his eyes on the rift.

A shadow emerged from the rift, spinning through the air before stabbing into the ground with a deafening crash.

The impact blasted away both Void creatures and Silver Dragon warriors alike.

When the smoke cleared, they saw it...

A massive black and red sword, its blade thick and sharp, its surface emanating a sinister, ancient aura.

The hilt bore a crimson eye, a living, twitching organ that scanned the battlefield.

Then, from the rift, a figure emerged.

He walked up to the sword, grasped the hilt, and slung it over his shoulder.

The man looked around at the battlefield, a smile playing on his lips.

“What a beautiful world,” he said softly. “And soon... it will all be mine.”
