Chapter 718 : Don't Rush, Dorothy, Take It Slow
Brother Felyn doesn't love me anymore.
Dorothy had known this since the night the contract ended, but she had never really taken it to heart.
Felyn had accompanied Dorothy for several years, slowly opening her heart and allowing her to become a princess who could go outside. Dorothy had grown accustomed to having Felyn by her side; the order of her world had been built, bit by bit, by Felyn.
When Dorothy saw Felyn's smile for Fiorella, it was as if she had been yanked from a warm bed and thrown directly into a lake covered with thin ice in winter.
The surrounding air was like bone-chilling lake water, causing Dorothy's body to go numb, even slowly losing consciousness.
Brother Felyn was still the same Brother Felyn, gentle to those around him.
It was just that he didn't love me anymore, so he was no longer gentle to me.
He doesn't love me anymore.
"Dorothy, are you alright?"
Fiorella, seeing this, knelt on the ground, not daring to stand up. "Your Highness, I, I, I, I, I, Mr. Felyn and I don't have that kind of relationship, just now..."
She knew the princess had different feelings for Felyn, and she had just let Felyn touch her head right in front of the princess.
The princess will surely blame me.
It might even implicate Mr. Felyn. If I had known, I wouldn't have let Mr. Felyn touch me...
"It's alright, Miss Fiorella."
Dorothy's voice came from under her hair, without a tremor, without a sick possessiveness, only the gentleness befitting a princess.
She lifted her face. Although her eyes were already soaked and tears hung at the corners, she still squeezed out a smile, not wanting to worry Fiorella. "I just tripped and fell."
She rubbed her already red forehead and muttered in a low voice, "It hurts... here."
"Fiorella, go downstairs and get a healing spell-inscribed device from Viloti."
Felyn's words gave Fiorella a chance to escape. She quickly got up and went downstairs, only to find that two more people had appeared on the first floor.
One was Miss Adelina, whom she had seen before.
The other was a girl with golden hair and fair skin, as gentle and delicate as a princess.
Fiorella couldn't help but whisper, "So beautiful..."
"Hello, Sister Fiorella. I'm Olivia, my brother's..." Olivia swallowed the word "sister." "I'm my brother's roommate."
Adelina patted Olivia's back. You're being way too obvious about wanting to be with Felyn! What the heck is a roommate!
"So you're Miss Olivia!" Fiorella quickly walked to her side. "Mr. Felyn often talks about you. You're a very important family member to him."
"Really? Did my brother talk about me in front of you?"
Olivia took Fiorella's hands and pulled her to the side, wanting to hear what Felyn had said about her.
"But, Mr. Felyn just asked me to deliver something to Her Highness the Princess." Fiorella glanced at the second floor where only Felyn and Dorothy were.
"It's fine. Let my brother and Her Highness chat. They should have a lot to talk about."
Second floor.
Felyn leaned against one side of the corner, while Dorothy sat slumped on the other side.
This was a true separation of two worlds.
The two of them leaned back against the same wall. Felyn could still hear Dorothy's soft sobs.
"Brother Felyn, Dorothy feels so sad right now."
"Brother Felyn, can you come and comfort me... As long as Brother Felyn says the word, I'll get better immediately. Dorothy is very easy to comfort."
Felyn sighed. "You're treating me like a first-aid kit."
He sat on the floor, leaning against the wall.
Fine, might as well solve Dorothy's matter in this house.
"Dorothy, don't cry."
"Okay..." she said softly, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes with her wrist. "Brother Felyn, I'm not crying. I'm being very good."
"Don't be like this, Dorothy. We're not in that kind of relationship."
She wanted to turn the corner, to throw herself into Felyn's arms, but Felyn's words made her shrink back. "Brother Felyn and I are not lovers yet, I know. But, Brother Felyn, I love you very much."
"That's where the problem lies," Felyn said. "I don't love you."
Dorothy's hands gripped the staircase railing tightly. Her eyes were shut, her face pale, and her lips trembled.
She wanted to cry, but she couldn't.
Because Brother Felyn told me not to cry, so I can't cry.
"Even though you transferred all your magic power to me, giving me the chance to connect with a god; even though it was because of your kiss that I can use divine arts; you've already left your mark inside my body, transforming it to have the potential to use magic; you also spent a lot of money and effort to build me the manor of my dreams."
"But I still say I don't love you."
Felyn held nothing back, saying everything he wanted to say.
He owed Dorothy a lot. Although her crazy love would bring him a lot of trouble, she had indeed brought him many tangible benefits.
If he were to say something like, "I know what I'm doing isn't right, I'm just a scumbag, a liar," then Dorothy would surely rush to say it was all her initiative and not his fault.
That way, Felyn would be forgiven by Dorothy and could enjoy her contributions without any burden on his conscience.
To avoid this situation, Felyn didn't comment on himself at all, but let Dorothy make her own judgment.
See? You've given so much for the 'Brother Felyn' you speak of, but he still doesn't love you, so just give up.
You focus on being a princess, take care of your subjects. If there's anything you need my help with, I will do my best to help you.
Dorothy also understood Felyn's meaning. She didn't answer his question.
"Brother Felyn, in the past... was I wrong?"
A moist voice came over, making Felyn's heart feel a little heavy.
He wanted to turn around to look at Dorothy, but she stopped him by placing a hand on his forehead.
"Brother Felyn, don't look at me. I don't look good right now. If you see me, you'll dislike me even more."
After the contract ended, Dorothy did many things.
And the result?
Felyn got together with Adelina and Viloti.
Fiorella, whom he had only known for a week or two, also received that kind of smile from Felyn.
And yet, Felyn was unwilling to even spare her a glance right now.
Dorothy had done many things, but Felyn was getting farther and farther away from her, so far that if it weren't for the Hero's Festival, Felyn would never look at her again.
Dorothy looked at Felyn's room at this moment and finally realized something.
She realized she was too afraid of Felyn leaving, too afraid she wouldn't be able to find him in the future, so she wanted to capture his heart in the shortest amount of time.
She was too hasty.
So hasty that she wanted to tie Felyn up, so hasty that she wanted to tear out her heart and show it all to Felyn at once.
Her love was fiery and reckless, so her actions were similarly out of line.
This wouldn't make Felyn love her; it would only make him feel pressured and troubled.
Dorothy slowly stood up. "Brother Felyn, I'm fine now. I'll be leaving first."
As she walked downstairs, she urged herself not to be anxious.
I have to make Brother Felyn fall in love with me first, to have good feelings for me. That way, if I do something a little too excessive to Brother Felyn, he won't hate me.
"Dorothy..."
Felyn turned around and saw that Dorothy was already holding her skirt, slowly walking downstairs.
Dorothy... what's wrong with her?
Has she given up on me, has her heart been broken by me?
