Chapter 107: Fishing

"Let's go, Miss Gu. I really don't know why they want me to protect you!"

After receiving the order from the Governor's Office, Gu Xi followed by Shen Yu's side, though she remained silent throughout the entire process, and there was no telling what she was thinking; however, Shen Yu still settled her into the County Government Office.

This time, many factions knew that Gu Xi had entered the County Government Office. However, the news that the experts sent by Golden Rain Tower had been completely wiped out eventually leaked out.

Therefore, even though everyone knew the person they were looking for was in the County Government Office, no one dared to make a move first. Even the Fourth Elder of Golden Rain Tower had been killed; they still had some sense of their own worth.

"Back already?" Shen Yu, who was practicing Martial Arts in the County Government Office, suddenly stopped abruptly; several Scent-Seeking Bees were flying up and down around him.

Previously, Shen Yu had smeared a bit of nectar on the two people who came to deliver the order. After leaving, these two had galloped north all the way, as if they were leaving Sanshui County. Once they were out of the range of the Scent-Seeking Bees' perception, Shen Yu had stopped paying attention to them.

But it had only been a few days, and the two had turned back. This was what truly confirmed to him that the two men heading north before was merely a tactic to mislead people, and the person truly issuing the orders was right here in Sanshui County!

Guided by the Scent-Seeking Bees, Shen Yu found the back hall of a mid-tier Brothel in Sanshui County, where many experts were gathered. And in the very center, protected by layers of experts, he saw a figure he was quite familiar with.

"Mr. Chen, we meet again. I should have guessed it would be you!"

Looking at the Mr. Chen before him, Shen Yu felt somewhat resentful. He used to think he looked kind and benevolent, but now it seemed this guy was truly wicked.

Thinking about it, the reason Gu Xi went to him to set him up must have been due to this Mr. Chen's guidance behind the scenes. His life had been going quite well, yet this guy wanted to drag him into a trap; his conscience was truly rotten to the core.

"I didn't expect you to be able to find this place?" Upon seeing the suddenly appearing Shen Yu, Mr. Chen's face was full of surprise. He had tried his best to hide himself, but he hadn't expected to be found anyway.

Then Mr. Chen shook his head and smiled lightly; this was fine too, the stronger this Magistrate Shen was, the more advantageous it would naturally be for him.

"Magistrate Shen, please sit!"

"Sitting won't be necessary!" Waving his hand, Shen Yu then asked irritably, "Mr. Chen, this Gu Xi is your person, right?"

"No, Gu Xi is the imperial court's person, not mine!"

"Aren't you representing the Governor's Office? Is there a difference?"

"Of course there is a difference; we are merely cooperating!" Looking up and seeing Shen Yu's probing gaze, Mr. Chen smiled slightly, "Magistrate Shen, sit down first. Since you were able to find this place, then we can speak frankly about some matters!"

"Fine!" Sitting down generously, Shen Yu picked up a teacup and poured himself some tea, not treating himself as an outsider at all.

Since this guy had set him up so badly, let alone drinking some of his tea, even if he packed up everything here and took it away, it would be deserved. However, looking around, there wasn't anything valuable anyway. Pfft, what a pauper!

"Mr. Chen, who exactly is this Gu Xi? She shouldn't be the daughter of the Longyuan Escort Agency's Chief Escort, right?"

"No, you are wrong. She is indeed the daughter of the Longyuan Escort Agency's Chief Escort, and at the same time, she is also a Black-Clad Guard Colonel; these two things do not conflict!"

"These two don't conflict? These are completely unrelated, aren't they? Wait, I think I understand. So you're saying that the Longyuan Escort Agency's Chief Escort is also a Black-Clad Guard, and the Longyuan Escort Agency is an asset of the Black-Clad Guard? Tsk tsk, unexpected, yet within reason!"

It was as if he had straightened everything out, but then a series of questions flooded his mind. They had gone to such great lengths to pull this off; surely it wasn't just for fun.

"Mr. Chen, tell me the truth: is what Gu Xi has in her hands a list or a Sword Scripture? These past two days I've used all sorts of methods to ask her, and she hasn't said a single word!"

"That's normal. The Black-Clad Guard has the Black-Clad Guard's rules. Let alone you, even if it were me, they wouldn't reveal a single word. However, there are some things I can tell you: she does indeed have a list in her hands!"

Looking up at Shen Yu, Mr. Chen then said, "You should know about the Hu Family's Bliss Flower. According to Constable Zhan, the fact that this matter could be resolved smoothly was all thanks to Magistrate Shen's help!"

"But hasn't the Hu Family already been wiped out?"

"Although the Hu Family is dead, the Dark Hall still remains. The Dark Hall is composed of high-ranking imperial officials and sect experts that the Hu Family has controlled over the years using the Bliss Flower. It is hard for an ordinary person to imagine what a massive force this is!"

"Impossible!" Upon hearing Mr. Chen's words, Shen Yu shook his head directly, "Just based on a Hu Family, they have the guts for this? Even if they dared, they don't have that much power. How could it take so long to be discovered!"

"A mere Hu Family naturally wouldn't dare, but there is someone supporting the Hu Family from behind!" Saying this, Mr. Chen quietly set down the teacup in his hand and looked up at Shen Yu with both eyes.

"In other words, this Dark Hall is actually managed by the Hu Family for someone else! What Gu Xi has in her hands is indeed a list—it is the Loyalty Blood Letter of the Dark Hall members, not some Sword Scripture written by the Hero of the Long Sky!"

"The reason the rumor about the Sword Scripture spread was simply because some people wanted to muddy the waters. On the other hand, it was also in the hope of using the hands of experts from various sects to firmly lock onto Gu Xi's location so she wouldn't easily escape."

"Hold on, let me sort this out first!" Rolling his eyes slightly, he thought through the events carefully, and then Shen Yu looked up at the other person again with some uncertainty.

"That's not right. If this list were in Gu Xi's hands, and she is being hunted like this now, how could you be so calm? If I'm not mistaken, this list shouldn't be in her hands, or rather, there is no such thing as a list at all, right?"

After saying this, Shen Yu stared straight at the other person. At this moment, the hand of Mr. Chen opposite him, which had just picked up the teacup again, clearly paused, and then he smiled softly.

"Correct, the list is not in Gu Xi's hands; it was long ago transmitted to the Governor's Office by a secret agent! The so-called list is merely a smokescreen to make those people believe that the undercover agent we sent, in their final moments and with no other choice, had to entrust the item to the Longyuan Escort Agency."

"Then why did you have to do this..."

"Because with just a list, we don't have enough evidence to make arrests. Furthermore, the list is only a portion of the people controlled by the person behind the scenes; there is another portion hidden in the shadows. If these people who bring disaster to the land are not removed, they will always be a hidden danger!"

"I understand!" At this point, Shen Yu finally understood the other's plan, "So Gu Xi is just bait, and you are trying to go fishing with this!"

"Smart, you are indeed even smarter than I imagined. And what is even more unexpected to me is that your Martial Arts have progressed so quickly. The dignified Fourth Elder of Golden Rain Tower, who is an expert of note even in the entire Nanhua Domain, died at your hands. I admire you!"

Reaching out to pour a cup of tea for Shen Yu, Mr. Chen then picked up his own teacup and sipped it slowly, a look of comfort appearing on his face. With the other's participation, his plan could be even more perfect.

"So after learning of this, I changed the plan and handed Gu Xi over to you to protect. Magistrate Shen, how many fish we can catch in the end, and how big the fish are, will depend on how long Magistrate Shen can hold out here!"

"Magistrate Shen!" Saying this, Mr. Chen looked up at Shen Yu and then laughed softly, "As long as Magistrate Shen handles this matter beautifully, there is a surprise waiting for you!"

"What surprise?"

"Cannot be said, it cannot be said!"
