Chapter 13

~6 min read 1,054 words

"I think it'll be about ten minutes."

The people by the river were all waiting to see Jia Dong make a fool of himself and were waiting to see him fall in.

While Jia Dong was looking for wild ducks.

Wan Ping'an arrived at the small tavern.

"Xueru, look who's here?"

Inside the tavern counter, Xu Huirong and Chen Xueru were chatting; Chen Xueru was facing inward, and Xu Huirong was facing the door, seeing Wan Ping'an at a glance.

"Who?"

Chen Xueru turned around and saw Wan Ping'an, stunned for a moment, her face turning slightly red.

"Did I catch you?"

Xu Huirong laughed.

While the two sisters were talking about Wan Ping'an, Wan Ping'an stood still.

He didn't expect that as soon as he arrived at the small tavern, he would see an old acquaintance; wasn't this He Great Qing?

How did he come to Zhengyang Gate?

Then, he saw a shoulder pole, looked at He Great Qing again, and realized; it wasn't He Great Qing, this was Cai Quanwu from under Zhengyang Gate.

The two were played by the same person, both with a paralyzed face.

"Got it!"

"If I find someone to watch my six acres of land, I won't have to worry about anything going wrong."

"Cai Quanwu is a porter with no formal job; if I hire him, he'll have a stable income, and he'll definitely be willing to go."

Wan Ping'an thought of a good way.

"Wait, are you willing to find a stable job?"

Wan Ping'an saw Cai Quanwu put down his things and was about to leave, so he quickly called out to him.

"You want to hire me long-term?"

Cai Quanwu's eyes lit up.

A porter was someone who moved things for others, moved furniture, moved dowries, and he moved anything that could be moved.

When there was work, he could eat and drink his fill.

When there was no work, going hungry for two or three days was very normal.

Of course he wanted to find a stable job, but stable jobs were not easy to find.

He didn't have any savings to buy a job.

"Yes, you go watch the land for me, I'll give you five yuan a month, how about that?"

"The work isn't tiring, but you can't leave without permission."

Wan Ping'an nodded.

Five yuan wasn't much, but it wasn't little either.

Cai Quanwu might not even earn five yuan in a month, and even if he could, it would be tiring work; how could it be as easy as watching land?

Wan Ping'an hiring him was mainly to prevent man-made disasters.

He was currently planting rice and tomatoes, and there would definitely be more varieties in the future; watermelons, pumpkins, and he might even plant fruit trees.

These were all things that would make people jealous.

If he didn't have a reliable person to watch them for him, they might be stolen overnight, and he would be crying by then.

"Ping'an, what do you do?"

"Why do you need to hire someone to watch your land?"

Xu Huirong and Chen Xueru came to Wan Ping'an's side.

Cai Quanwu seemed a bit nervous.

With his paralyzed face, holding a shoulder pole, standing next to a handsome young man and two beauties, he looked a bit out of place!

Cai Quanwu was also curious, what did Wan Ping'an do?

What land did he need to watch?

"I'm just a farmer."

"Otherwise, why would I need to hire Cai Quanwu to watch the land?"

Wan Ping'an answered with a smile.

"A farmer?"

"You're not lying to me, are you?"

Chen Xueru didn't believe him.

From ancient times to the present, farming has never been a profitable business.

Even if you needed to watch the land, you would have your own family do it; if you hired someone to watch the land, the money you earned probably wouldn't be enough to pay the person you hired.

"I really am a farmer, it's just that the things I grow are a bit special and have a relatively high value."

"Cai Quanwu, five yuan a month, are you going or not?"

Wan Ping'an asked again.

"Go, of course I'll go!"

Cai Quanwu agreed very readily.

If he could earn money easily and stably, he'd be a fool not to go!

Watching land was much easier than moving things for others.

As a porter, he often had to trek long distances with one or two hundred pounds on his back, and often after a job, he was so tired he couldn't take another step.

"It's a deal then."

"I'll give you two yuan first, I'll give you the remaining two yuan in the middle of the month, and I'll give you the last yuan at the end of the month, how about that?"

Wan Ping'an had watched the show "Zhengyang Gate Under the Little Woman."

Cai Quanwu was a trustworthy person who kept his promises.

Otherwise.

Wan Ping'an wouldn't have hired him.

Cai Quanwu nodded repeatedly.

Wan Ping'an gave him two yuan directly, agreed on the time, and took him to the fields.

"Ping'an, are you really just a farmer?"

"Or rather, are you only a farmer?"

"Do you have any other jobs?"

Chen Xueru looked at Wan Ping'an.

Wan Ping'an's temperament was very special, not at all like a farmer, yet every time Wan Ping'an came, he was carrying a steel fork on his shoulder.

The mud on the steel fork was still fresh, obviously just used.

"For now, I'm just a farmer; as for the future, who can say for sure?"

"Boss Xu, buy some wine!"

Wan Ping'an answered Chen Xueru's question with a smile.

Wan Ping'an finished buying the wine and turned to leave the small tavern.

He left.

Chen Xueru watched his retreating back for a long time without speaking.

Xu Huirong laughed.

She reached out and waved in front of Chen Xueru's eyes.

"Xueru, your eyes are fixed; did you fall for Ping'an?"

"Do you want me to be the matchmaker?"

Xu Huirong teased her with a smile.

Chen Xueru's face turned red.

"What are you talking nonsense about?"

"I just feel he's a bit strange; his temperament doesn't look like a farmer's at all, but rather has three parts of a scholar's temperament."

Chen Xueru quickly changed the subject.
