Chapter 485
The moment Han Chunming spoke, Han Chunyan couldn't help but stare.
She looked at her brother, eyes full of disbelief, and said:
"I don't believe it—you didn't already drive Su Meng away, did you?"
Han Chunming leaned against the doorframe, his toes scraping the floor, he curled his lip and retorted:
"Just because she left doesn't mean I can't coax her back—I, Han Chunming, am not that incapable."
Full of confidence!
Han Chunyan watched his feigned calm that couldn't hide his excitement, leaned in, and asked earnestly:
"You're not lying to me? Don't let Su Meng end up crying and leaving again—I don't want to have to mediate again."
"Lying to you? I'd be a dog!" Han Chunming could no longer hide his smile; his lips curled up, his eyes shining like he held two stars. "I've thought it all out—I'll see her later and talk to her properly."
Seeing his expression, Han Chunyan knew he was sincere, she nodded, patted the back of his hand, and said earnestly:
"Alright, alright, quit dawdling here—go on."
Han Chunming happily answered with an "eh," turned and ran out the door, his steps lighter than usual.
He had waited far too long for those words.
"Close the door behind you!" He had taken only two steps outside when he suddenly turned back and shouted at the house, afraid his sister would forget to shut the door.
Han Chunyan watched his hurried back, shook her head slightly, and let out a long sigh.
Only after his figure turned the alley corner and vanished from sight did she murmur to herself:
"The War of Resistance took eight years, defeating Chiang Kai-shek only four, but Chunming, Chunming, you've taken twenty years just to court someone—really trying my patience!"
Han Chunming returned to the Siheyuan, glanced toward Su Meng's house—the gate was closed, clearly she hadn't come back yet.
He then crept to the base of his own home's window to listen; hearing no sign of his mother, he felt relieved, stepped back, and sat on the stone pedestal at the Siheyuan gate.
He rested his arms on his knees, propped his chin with his hands, and stared fixedly at the alley mouth; even when neighbors passing by greeted him, he only gave a vague reply.
Hard work pays off.
After about a quarter hour, two short "beep-beep" car horn sounds came from the alley entrance; Han Chunming instantly sat upright, his eyes lighting up.
Soon enough, Su Meng's car slowly approached!
He suddenly felt a stir of excitement inside, but he deliberately kept his face calm, remained seated on the stone pedestal without moving, only raising his hand to start counting his fingers while muttering softly:
"One, two, three..."
He wanted to calculate how many times Su Meng had returned.
Su Meng spotted him from afar, she hummed, slowed the car, and came to a steady stop in front of Han Chunming.
As she got out of the car, Han Chunming was still sitting there counting his fingers; she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
Han Chunming counted to "eighteen" before lifting his head to look at Su Meng, a hint of smug smile on his lips, and said:
"This is your eighteenth triumphant return home!"
Su Meng laughed at his words, covering her mouth, her eyes crescent-shaped.
"What do you mean by that?"
"You're not welcome?"
Han Chunming laughed as he stood, brushed dust off his pants, deliberately moved closer to her, and said, "How dare I not? Su Meng, the young lady, returns—I welcome you with both hands raised!"
Saying that, he paused, then continued:
"If I weren't welcoming, you'd have to turn around and leave."
Saying that, he didn't wait for Su Meng's reply, quickly walked over, opened the trunk, knowing it held Su Meng's luggage.
