Chapter 1000: Distributing Food

~10 min read 1,810 words

At midnight, He Yuzhu took advantage of the heavy darkness to slip silently into the epidemic zone.

This area had no power supply, and everything was pitch black.

Occasionally, fireflies flitted through the air, flickering like ghostly flames; with a single flash of light, one could glimpse haggard faces on the verge of death.

As He Yuzhu walked slowly forward, he took large quantities of food and drinking water—which he had previously seized from the port warehouse—out of his space, box by box and bag by bag, and quietly stacked them on the outskirts of the epidemic zone.

The settlement of the infected was adjacent to a forest; the ground was damp and muddy, weeds grew wildly, and mosquitoes and flies buzzed incessantly.

Many people had already fallen into a deep sleep, while many other patients tossed and turned, constantly emitting painful groans.

Witnessing the miserable plight of the crowd, He Yuzhu felt compassion in his heart. He took a large amount of Spirit Spring Water, filled buckets, and placed them near each tent to make it convenient for everyone to use.

He loathed the warlords who treated human life like grass and despised those lackeys who helped the evildoer, yet he felt sincere sympathy for the weak at the bottom. Regardless of ethnicity or skin color, he only hoped these Spirit Spring Water could save a few more lives.

Once the supplies were all properly placed, he raised his voice and shouted, "The Red Cross Association is distributing food and water to everyone! Hurry over to collect it, or there won't be any left if you're late!"

He knew very well that with the epidemic breaking out in the zone, the surrounding garrison would never dare to rush in, and even if they knew supplies had flowed in, they would not dare enter to seize them.

Sure enough, the shouting awakened the patients in the epidemic zone. Everyone who could still walk rushed over to scramble for the mountain of supplies. Rapid, chaotic footsteps echoed one after another; many people coughed violently while running, gasping for breath.

At first, the scene was one of frantic grabbing and pushing; some fell to the ground, yet still clutched the biscuits in their hands tightly after scrambling back up. Not long after, everyone realized the quantity of supplies was extremely sufficient and there was no need to scramble at all, as everyone could get a share, and the chaotic scene slowly calmed down.

Before long, news of the large amount of supplies in the epidemic zone reached the ears of the surrounding Garrison. Lights turned on in the Military Camp several kilometers away, and officers urgently assembled their troops. But after hearing reports from their subordinates about the commotion in the epidemic zone, not a single soldier dared to step into this infected area.

Immediately after, chaos also erupted in the ordinary refugee area on the outside. He Yuzhu had also dropped off food and water there, but the quantity was limited, and the refugees scrambled against each other again. Those working for the warlords kept trying to maintain order, shouting loudly to stop the crowd from looting.

Taking advantage of the chaos, He Yuzhu silently took care of this group of people, along with the few guards watching the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Dozens of people fell silently in the darkness without attracting anyone's attention. The refugees were starving, their eyes all drawn to the biscuits and fresh water, and the looting became increasingly intense, even leading to loss of life.

Using the cover of night, He Yuzhu released a truck from his space and beckoned Sun Bing and the other Chinese Chamber of Commerce personnel to board quickly.

The moment everyone climbed onto the truck, their hearts were shaken.

The truck was piled high with sandbags, and various types of firearms were placed in the truck bed.

Vice President Sun Bing stepped forward and asked in a low voice, "Mr. Zhou, can we really break out with just this one vehicle?"

He Yuzhu spoke calmly, "You have seen it yourself; right now, the epidemic zone and the refugee area are in a mess, and everyone is busy scrambling for food. Our vehicle is flying the flag of the Youth Party, so even if someone notices us, they won't question us too much."

Sun Bing chose to trust He Yuzhu, then asked again, "Mr. Zhou, do you know the breakout route?"

He Yuzhu nodded and looked around at everyone: "Among you, who can drive?"

A short, stout middle-aged man stood out: "Mr. Zhou, I participated in the self-defense counterattack war; I can drive this kind of truck."

"Remember, this vehicle has been specially modified with excellent shock absorption, so it won't be easily trapped even on bumpy roads, and it has powerful horsepower," He Yuzhu solemnly instructed. "Try not to stop; you can slow down, but you must never come to a standstill."

The short, stout middle-aged man replied in a deep voice, "Don't worry, Mr. Zhou. As long as I am alive, I will never let the vehicle stop."

At He Yuzhu's command, the truck slowly began to move forward.

Sun Bing and the others followed him, crouching behind the makeshift cover built from sandbags.

He Yuzhu looked at the group: "How many of you know how to use a gun?"

A thin, tall man wearing glasses replied, "Mr. Zhou, I haven't been a soldier, but I've been hunting here for years and know how to use an AK47."

He Yuzhu had already prepared the firearms and handed an AK to him: "The gun is yours; don't be timid. Once someone raises a gun to aim at us, you must fire first, or you will be the one who dies."

The thin, tall man hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and agreed: "Mr. Zhou, I will follow your arrangements."

Sun Bing quickly spoke up: "I can shoot too, though my aim is a bit poor; give me one as well."

He Yuzhu handed over an AK47 as well.

The driver followed the direction indicated by He Yuzhu and broke out toward the outside.

The situation was chaotic; many military vehicles were driving inward, brushing past their truck, but no one came forward to inspect them.

The Garrison received news only that riots had broken out in the epidemic zone and the refugee area, and everyone was scrambling for food of unknown origin; rumors said it was supplies sent by the Red Cross, but no one had ever seen a Red Cross vehicle enter.

The truck drove to an intersection, and suddenly a roadblock appeared in front.

Seven or eight armed soldiers were crouching behind sandbags and barbed wire; the headlights illuminated the road ahead, and the opponents had already raised their Rifles one after another.

He Yuzhu immediately mounted the Machine Gun on the roof of the truck and fired fiercely at the crowd blocking the way.

The muzzle spat out dazzling tongues of fire, drawing golden lines in the dark night, and hot Bullet Shells clattered incessantly onto the roof of the truck.

This group of soldiers never expected that a truck flying the Youth Party flag would open fire directly.

Several people were hit and fell to the ground on the spot, with only one person hurriedly diving into the field and lying on the ground, feigning death.

He Yuzhu had long since seen that the person still had breath, so he raised his hand and fired a shot, directly blowing the man's head apart.

He immediately ordered the vehicle to stop, jumped off the truck, and stripped the still-intact military uniform from the corpse.

Sun Bing was confused at first, but a moment later he understood He Yuzhu's intention.

Everyone quickly changed into the captured military uniforms, and He Yuzhu took greasepaint from his backpack, applying it so their skin color resembled the locals.

Once the group was disguised, plus the Somalia Youth Party flag on the vehicle, they looked almost flawless from a distance.

The truck continued to drive forward; after driving about five or six kilometers, a patrol of armed men rushed toward them.

Seeing their attire and the flag on the vehicle, the opponents thought they were their own people.

The leader gave a thumbs-up toward the driver's cab and waved them through nonchalantly.

But just as the vehicle had driven a short distance away, a rapid roar of an engine came from behind.

A car turned around and chased after them; the opponents had already realized what was happening and intended to intercept them.

He Yuzhu immediately mounted the Machine Gun and pulled the trigger.

*Da-da-da*—the violent tongues of fire swept across; the pursuers' headlights went out one after another, and many people hurriedly jumped out of the car and rolled into the roadside ditch.

The armed personnel in the car were soon wiped out by the Machine Gun fire.

At the same time, dense bullets shot toward them, hitting the steel plates of the truck with a *pitter-patter* sound, like a hail of ice.

Fortunately, the truck had been specially reinforced and was equipped with bulletproof glass, so no one was injured.

The pursuers were all annihilated, the sound of gunfire gradually subsided, and only a few damaged vehicles remained tilted on the side of the road, emitting billowing black smoke.

Having briefly shaken off the pursuit, the group had not yet caught their breath when the loud roar of a helicopter came from afar.

The sound traveled from far to near, a dull tremor overwhelming everything.

Sun Bing shouted anxiously, "Mr. Zhou, should we stop the car and hide in the wilderness? The helicopter's machine gun is too powerful!"

He Yuzhu smiled faintly, turned, and took a Stinger Missile launcher from the carriage.

He hoisted the launcher with one hand, the crosshairs in the sight steadily locking onto the steel giant bird hovering in the air, accompanied by a "click" locking sound.

He pulled the trigger.

Whoosh!

The Stinger Missile dragged a crimson tail flame as it shot straight into the night sky, exploding with a roar the moment it hit the helicopter. The entire warplane instantly turned into a huge fireball, exceptionally glaring in the pitch-black night, like a falling giant meteor, followed by a heavy crash onto the ground, with raging flames spreading wantonly.

Rolling heat waves still rushed toward them from hundreds of meters away.

Sun Bing stared with wide eyes and couldn't help but say, "Mr. Zhou, I didn't expect you to be proficient in everything!"

He Yuzhu smiled faintly, "This is nothing to brag about. We haven't completely broken through the enemy's blockade yet; I already scouted it out before coming, and there are still a large number of Youth Party armed forces guarding the road if we want to return to the base."
