Chapter 1002: Turning Against Someone Faster Than Flipping a Page
He Yuzhu and his group drove forward another ten-plus kilometers; the wheels rolled over the pitted road, the jolting enough to make one's bones feel like they were falling apart.
The salty, fishy smell in the air grew increasingly thick, and from the distance, the low, deep sound of a ship's whistle drifted over from time to time.
Before the group had a chance to catch their breath, a winding long dragon of cars suddenly lit up at the end of the road, and a large number of vehicles came surging toward them in a grand, imposing procession along the main thoroughfare.
Sun Bing caught sight of this troop, his lips instantly turning pale: "It's the Youth Army... at the very least dozens of vehicles, over a thousand people!"
The others in the truck cabin couldn't help but tense up, and the short, stout middle-aged man asked in a low voice: "Mr. Zhou, are we... going to force our way through?"
He Yuzhu was silent for a few seconds, then asked: "What does everyone choose?"
The young man wearing glasses hurriedly said: "Forcing our way through is definitely suicide! It would be better to drive the car into the fields to hide and wait for this troop to pass before doing anything else."
"I'm afraid it's too late! They have most likely already seen us!" the short, stout middle-aged man said urgently.
He Yuzhu suddenly grinned: "Then we'll charge straight up and take a gamble."
"That won't work!" Sun Bing widened his eyes, "This is clearly walking right into the muzzle of a gun!"
"Things have come to this, we have no other way," He Yuzhu said in a deep voice, giving the order.
The short, stout middle-aged man slammed the accelerator to the floor, and the truck sped forward.
The oncoming Youth Army convoy never imagined that someone would charge straight at them in the opposite direction, and they imagined even less that this group of people was the very culprit that had blown up their helicopters.
Sun Bing watched the convoy passing by his side, cold sweat streaming down his body uncontrollably. He caught a glimpse of He Yuzhu smoking one cigarette after another, occasionally even waving at the soldiers along the way. When he encountered someone reaching out to ask for a cigarette, He Yuzhu even generously tossed over a few packs.
The short, stout middle-aged man lowered his voice and muttered to himself: "Mr. Zhou is calm in the face of danger; he truly has the bearing of a great general..."
No sooner had he finished speaking than an officer suddenly rushed out from the Youth Army ranks, quickly stepped in front of the truck's hood, and shouted sternly: "Which unit are you from?"
He Yuzhu jumped down from the driver's cabin with a "thud," walked up with long strides, raised his hand to lightly pat the other man's shoulder, and immediately followed up by fishing a piece of gleaming gold from his pocket and stuffing it into the man's palm, lowering his voice to say: "Black Stone Group, in the diamond business. I'm not at liberty to say more about the rest, but a local official is no match for the one currently in charge. I'm just borrowing the road."
The officer's body gave a violent jolt, and he blurted out: "Why are you coming from the direction of the epidemic zone?"
He Yuzhu sighed: "I had no choice in the matter. When crossing through Ethiopia, we were subjected to inspections, and goods worth a million US dollars were all confiscated. We nearly lost our lives; how could we still care about the epidemic zone's ban?"
"I'm asking you, did you see two destroyed helicopters along the way?" the officer continued to interrogate.
"I saw them; it was done by a hundred-man squad," He Yuzhu answered calmly.
"Do you know which direction that group fled in?" the officer pressed.
"They ran toward the seaside!" He Yuzhu lied casually.
"Did you see clearly how they shot down the aircraft?"
"I didn't see that clearly," He Yuzhu shook his head.
The officer waved his hand: "Go."
He Yuzhu turned around, walked up quickly, and leaped back into the truck.
Sun Bing's face remained deathly pale; he leaned in and asked in a low voice: "Mr. Zhou, what did you just say to him?"
He Yuzhu smiled faintly and said nonchalantly: "Gave him a piece of gold, worth about tens of thousands of US dollars."
After hearing this, Sun Bing remained silent for a long time.
The car roared forward and finally stopped on a piece of wasteland at the edge of the pier.
He dared not rashly drive into the formal pier—because the supplies and diamonds that the Black Stone Group had stored in the pier warehouse had all been taken into his space, and he reckoned the other party must have already discovered the theft by now.
He Yuzhu called Sun Bing over to discuss the route together.
He said with a smile: "Vice President Sun, at the moment we have two paths to choose from. The first is to take the land route I used when I first entered the country; the second is to withdraw by sea."
Sun Bing did not immediately reach a conclusion and asked: "What are the pros and cons of each route?"
He Yuzhu said: "If we take the land route, the Youth Party Army checkpoints are dense, and those militants are unreasonable; they open fire at the slightest disagreement."
Sun Bing heard that He Yuzhu was not inclined toward the land route and asked accordingly: "Then what about the sea route? What are the pros and cons?"
He Yuzhu said: "Taking the sea route, the risk of moving the team is smaller; the only difficulty is finding a suitable boat."
Sun Bing pondered for a moment and nodded: "Then let's choose the sea route. Are boats easy to find?"
He Yuzhu patted Sun Bing on the shoulder: "I can handle the boat."
He had long since made plans in his heart; at the very least, he could take that modified United States patrol boat out of his space.
He could operate this boat all by himself and did not need to rely on a fixed berth at the pier.
Seeing him speak with such certainty, Sun Bing stopped fretting and handed full authority over to He Yuzhu to arrange.
But just as the convoy approached the pier area, the entire pier was already in chaos.
It turned out that the Black Lion Group had finally discovered that the warehouse supplies and entire boxes of diamonds had vanished into thin air, and in their fury, the pier had immediately initiated the highest level of martial law.
He Yuzhu frowned: "It looks like the formal pier won't work. Turn around immediately and drive toward the remote coast on the outskirts of the pier."
The truck drove along, and just as it stopped on a desolate beach, a troop of people followed right behind, numbering fully over thirty.
A black man with a face full of jowls in the lead saw He Yuzhu's group's vehicle, immediately raised his hand to signal, and ordered them to stop for inspection.
He Yuzhu still held a glimmer of hope in his heart; he took the initiative to walk up, a fawning smile plastered on his face, and his right hand took the opportunity to fish a piece of gold from his bosom, handing it toward this officer whose eyes were as sharp as blades.
Unexpectedly, the officer didn't even look at the gold, directly pulling out his Pistol with a "click," the pitch-black muzzle pressing hard against He Yuzhu's forehead: "I am the Commander's Personal Guard; I don't buy that act of yours! Give an honest account, where did you come from?"
The moment the words fell, the fawning smile on He Yuzhu's face instantly dissipated, and a bone-chilling ruthlessness enveloped his entire body.
His body reacted faster than his thoughts; his right hand moved with lightning speed to snatch the other man's Pistol, turned the muzzle to aim at the officer's brow, and decisively pulled the trigger—
"Bang!"
The officer's eyes widened, and he fell straight backward, warm blood constantly bubbling from the hole in his forehead.
But this was merely the beginning.
He Yuzhu flicked his wrist, and as if by magic, a pitch-black, gleaming Submachine Gun appeared in his hand.
He did not retreat a single step, raised the firearm to aim at the thirty-plus guards in front who had not yet fully reacted, and pulled the trigger continuously.
"Da-da-da-da-da—"
The muzzle spat tongues of fire continuously, and bullets swept out like hail.
Although these thirty-plus guards had been on guard, no one had expected that the man who had just been handing over gold to curry favor would turn hostile so rapidly, and that his strikes would be so ferociously extreme.
A dense hail of bullets came crashing down, and one guard after another fell like wheat being harvested; screams and gunfire intertwined, and in the blink of an eye, more than half had fallen.
The remaining few soldiers reacted extremely quickly, swiftly pulling their bolts to prepare for a counterattack, but He Yuzhu's figure could no longer be seen before their eyes.
The crowd hurriedly raised their guns and fired wildly toward the truck.
Just at this moment, a burst of dense gunfire suddenly rang out from behind them: "Rat-tat-tat!"
At the critical juncture, He Yuzhu utilized space traversal to quietly shift behind this group of guards, raised his Submachine Gun, and fired continuously.
A moment later, not a single person from this First Team of guards survived.
