Chapter 1022: Using Oneself as Bait

~10 min read 1,926 words

He Yuzhu spotted Ma Rui and Jiang Wanyu walking out hand in hand at a glance, and the string in his mind tightened instantly—this woman was definitely not simple.

He nimbly pulled open the car door, plastering a professional driver's smile on his face: "Boss Ma, where to?"

Ma Rui kept a straight face and said, "I'm going with Miss Jiang to the hotel where she's staying to sign a contract; her agent needs to review the terms. She's already agreed to star in two of our films; this is a massive blessing for our company."

Listening to this high-sounding talk, He Yuzhu almost laughed out loud—this nephew of his could really make things up.

He feigned an offhand tone and asked, "Then, what about Miss Yang... how will you explain it?"

Ma Rui shot him a fierce glare, his voice rising sharply: "I'm handling business, not having an affair; do I need her approval? The company's surname is Ma, not Yang! You'd better get it straight who the real Boss is! Are you trying to ask me for money to gamble again?"

He Yuzhu quickly lowered his head, his posture extremely humble: "Naturally it is you, Boss. I, I, I wasn't trying to ask you for money!"

"That's good! Stop gambling! You're over 30 and don't even have a wife." Ma Rui gave a cold snort and added, "Keep your mouth shut from now on. Don't go blathering about my business to that bunch in the driver's lounge just because you've had a few drinks. Just because you don't say it doesn't mean others won't."

He Yuzhu nodded like a pecking chicken, wishing he could bury his head into his chest: "Understood, understood! Last time, it was, it was because I blacked out from drinking, and those old geezers ganged up on me to pry it out of me, that's how the places you frequent... slipped out..."

Ma Rui stared at him, his tone laced with irritation: "You know you sold me out, so why do you think I still brought you to Hong Kong?"

He Yuzhu put on a foolish look and scratched the back of his head: "Then... why?"

Ma Rui leaned back against the seat and said slowly, "Because those other drivers were bought off by my mother and Yang Jing long ago. You're the only one who hasn't been bought. Besides, you have half-foreign blood; your brain is straightforward."

He Yuzhu curled his lip in disapproval and muttered, "Doesn't that just mean you're calling me stupid?"

Jiang Wanyu, who had been sitting quietly to the side, listened to the two of them going back and forth without a shred of seriousness and finally couldn't hold it in, letting out a laugh.

How could she have imagined that this unremarkable, dusty-looking little driver before her was actually the one who made the M Country intelligence circles tremble with fear.

Jiang Wanyu gave a light cough, interrupting at the right moment: "Alright, enough with the idle chatter; we're here to talk business. No one else has a say!"

Ma Rui immediately followed up, his voice booming: "You heard her! We're talking business!"

He Yuzhu steered the conversation back: "Then... which hotel are we actually going to?"

Jiang Wanyu spoke indifferently: "GoldenCoastHotel, do you know it?"

He Yuzhu shook his head honestly: "I'm not familiar with Hong Kong; I've never been."

Jiang Wanyu didn't mind: "It's fine, I'll give you directions."

He Yuzhu agreed with his mouth, but his mind had already started whirring. He called the system: "What's the background on GoldenCoastHotel?"

The system replied instantly: "Invested in by Black Stone Group; people from the Hong Kong Cultural Representative Office have long-term suites here."

He Yuzhu's heart skipped a beat, then he asked: "What about the geographical location?"

The system laid out the entire orientation and surrounding terrain, finally dropping a remark: "If you were to stage a kidnapping here, you could use the waterway to evacuate Hong Kong by boat, with a clear path all the way."

He Yuzhu's pupils contracted imperceptibly.

Before it was just a guess, but now it was confirmed. This Jiang Wanyu was either an M Country agent, an informant, or at the very least, hired as an accomplice.

The moment he turned the car into the hotel entrance, his nose caught a whiff of something wrong.

The massive parking lot was packed with all sorts of vacation vehicles, a chaotic mix of people. If something really happened, a speedboat could get someone to international waters in minutes, where M Country Warships were permanently docked.

He calmly activated the VehicleScanningSystem; the red dots on the screen were dense, like an anthill—the parking lot, the beach, the security room, even the hotel lobby, were all eyes for the enemy.

He parked the car steadily at the main entrance.

Ma Rui got out of the car but didn't rush inside; he took out a cigarette, lit it, and puffed away slowly.

Jiang Wanyu frowned: "Hurry up, aren't you in a rush to do that thing?"

Ma Rui chuckled: "Are you in a rush?"

"You're annoying, I'm ignoring you." Jiang Wanyu gave him a coquettish glare.

Ma Rui wrapped an arm around her neck, grinning cheekily: "How about we have a three-hundred-round battle later?"

In truth, Ma Rui was stalling to wait for his uncle—the tacit understanding he and his uncle had built over decades was that if his uncle sensed something wrong, he would definitely give a signal.

Jiang Wanyu didn't notice a thing.

"Then give me one too."

Ma Rui shook his head: "It's not good for women to smoke."

Jiang Wanyu glared at him again: "Aren't I just keeping you company?"

Ma Rui nodded and lit one to hand to her. Jiang Wanyu smoked slowly, the smoke swirling around her delicate face.

In less than two minutes, He Yuzhu trotted back and leaned into Ma Rui's ear, lowering his voice: "Boss Ma, the car is parked; let me go up with you."

Jiang Wanyu's expression sank, carrying a hint of annoyance: "What's wrong with your driver? Does he need to go up and inspect our room too?"

Ma Rui laughed, smoothing things over for him: "You're wronging him. Look at his build; he's my driver and also my Bodyguard. The company trained him, and he can't be away from my sight for too long."

Jiang Wanyu leaned into his ear, whispering half-teasingly: "Don't tell me you want him to watch us Kiss?"

Ma Rui chuckled, his voice dropping even lower: "You don't know, there are quite a few people eyeing our family."

Jiang Wanyu blinked, feigning innocence: "How is that possible? Aren't you just a businessman?"

Ma Rui sighed meaningfully: "I am a businessman, but who told me to end up with an uncle who loves to stir up trouble?"

Jiang Wanyu glanced at He Yuzhu, her tone reluctant: "Can't you just let him wait in the lobby?"

Ma Rui shook his head, his voice lowering a few more notches: "He'd lose his job if he did that."

Jiang Wanyu was stunned: "Besides you, who else could fire him?"

Ma Rui gave a bitter smile: "That's where you don't understand. Our entire family's security system is managed by my uncle's people from top to bottom. If something really happens at home, what I say doesn't count."

Jiang Wanyu curled her lip, muttering: "Your family has so much drama."

Ma Rui sighed and compromised: "Fine, I'll book another room next to ours, that's enough, right?"

Although Jiang Wanyu was still unhappy, she didn't push it further and gave a reluctant nod.

The three of them filed into the elevator; the cabin climbed silently, the floor indicator lights jumping one by one until they stopped at the 19th floor.

The elevator doors slid open to reveal a corridor carpeted in thick, dark-patterned rugs, the wall lamps casting a warm yellow glow that made the entire passage quiet and luxurious.

Jiang Wanyu had booked a large suite, the door number gleaming. She swiped her key card, the lock clicked open, and the heavy door pushed open with a very slight sense of resistance.

He Yuzhu's room was right next door, with an equally heavy door and the same crisp electronic lock sound.

He Yuzhu opened the door with a key card, but did not go in, gesturing to Ma Rui: "President Ma, two hours."

Ma Rui waved his hand impatiently and muttered: "So annoying. I've been controlled since I was born, and even at this age, I still have to be watched by a Bodyguard when I go out."

Jiang Wanyu, however, brazenly reached out to wrap her arms around his waist and said coquettishly: "I won't control you."

Ma Rui chuckled: "You're the best."

Jiang Wanyu shot him a glance: "Let's go have three hundred rounds of battle."

Ma Rui laughed exaggeratedly and hurriedly picked her up: "I can't wait."

He Yuzhu stood at the doorway, watching the two of them close the suite door.

He instantly activated his Scanning System and discovered that there were people hiding in the room opposite, the room next door, and even inside the suite—more than one.

He Yuzhu held his breath, his mind calculating rapidly: "What on earth do these people want to do?"

Inside the suite, the moment Ma Rui entered, he threw Jiang Wanyu onto the bed and pressed his lips fiercely against hers.

Jiang Wanyu did not dodge, letting him kiss her.

Suddenly—

Three figures crawled out from under the bed, their gun barrels aimed squarely at Ma Rui's head.

Ma Rui stiffened abruptly, his lips still carrying the warmth of Jiang Wanyu, his pupils instantly shrinking to pinpricks.

He Yuzhu saw it all clearly through Scanning.

But he did not move.

He deliberately did not move because he had already judged that these people were here to take hostages, not to kill.

He also wanted to be a hostage for once to see who the big fish behind this really was. Killing a bunch of small fries was useless.

Just at this moment—

Several doors on both sides of the corridor opened simultaneously, and seven or eight armed figures swarmed out from different directions, their gun barrels aimed squarely at He Yuzhu.

He Yuzhu immediately raised his hands, his voice carrying a perfectly measured amount of panic: "Don't, don't, don't, I'm just a Bodyguard, don't kill me—"

Before he could finish speaking, the heavy door of the suite was pushed open from the inside, and Ma Rui was shoved out by the three men, with three guns pressed against the back of his head, his lower back, and his shoulder blade.

Ma Rui looked up and saw He Yuzhu surrounded by over a dozen guns in the corridor, his heart sinking to the bottom—

It's over, how did Uncle get caught too?

Cold sweat trickled down his back, and his heartbeat pounded like a drum. He bit his lower lip hard, almost drawing blood, but did not utter a single sound.

He still trusted his uncle.

This must be his uncle setting up a bigger trap.

Jiang Wanyu walked out of the suite unhurriedly, strolled to Ma Rui's side, and said in a flat tone: "President Ma, my apologies. I'm just taking money to solve problems for others. Hahaha!"

After she finished speaking, she walked away in her high heels.

Ma Rui threw out a cold remark: "Don't take money you shouldn't take. Otherwise, you might have the life to earn it, but not the life to spend it."
