Chapter 1076: The Big Birthday

~9 min read 1,616 words

He Yuzhu lingered with Secretary Liu for another two days, discussing the details thoroughly, and headed straight to Pudong early on the third day.

Because the completion ceremony for the urban complex there was about to be held. Hu Bayi insisted that this major shareholder had to attend.

He Yuzhu accompanied the relevant leaders on a brief inspection of the site before officially participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

As he and the city leaders made the cut, the applause was like a pot exploding.

The banquet table was even livelier; after three rounds of drinks, Wang Pangzi approached with his glass, and the two clinked them together before downing them in one go.

Wang Pangzi immediately leaned into his ear and lowered his voice: "Master He, that grandson Xu Damao hooked up with a flight attendant on a plane, and the two of them are stuck together like glue. Since you gave him that Immortal Water last time, he's started acting restless again."

He Yuzhu picked up some food and chewed slowly, "His wife doesn't care, so why should we worry about it? But having said that, I actually do have something I want to discuss with you and Hu."

Wang Pangzi's eyes lit up instantly, and he asked eagerly: "What is it? Are you going to Myanmar to get jade again?"

He Yuzhu shook his head and said with a smile: "No, but this job is quite exciting. Are you still willing to do it?"

Wang Pangzi scratched the back of his head and smacked his lips: "Hey, you don't say—those days in Myanmar were nerve-wracking, but when I think back on it, it was damn exciting! Now that none of us are short on money, what are we brothers looking for? Isn't it just to get together and find some fun? Master He, just give your orders; if I, Wang Pangzi, frown even once, I'm no hero."

He Yuzhu didn't hold anything back and gave him a brief bottom line on what he had discussed with Secretary Liu.

Once Wang Pangzi heard that this was a matter of great responsibility, the playfulness on his face vanished, and he said seriously: "I won't lie to you, I have to discuss this with Lingzi."

He Yuzhu nodded and patted his shoulder: "No pressure, really, no pressure. I just feel that it's a pity for the two of you to let your skills go to waste."

Upon hearing this, Wang Pangzi grinned: "Master He, you hit the nail on the head with that one. Back when Hu and I were doing Doudao, the situations were way more bizarre than that trip to Myanmar—the Corpse Fragrant Konjac, all sorts of traps, deep-sea treasure hunting—which time wasn't a brush with death? Didn't Hu and I settle them all in the end? Oh my, you don't know, there was one time we had those Ghost Cave Tribe patterns growing on us, I damn near wanted to jump off a building, but didn't we end up breaking that lousy curse? But I envy you, Master He; you never get entangled in karma no matter what you do, and you never get hurt—you truly have an immortal constitution."

He Yuzhu chuckled and teased him half-jokingly: "Maybe it's because the Heavens find too many people and things displeasing, so they sent me to deal with them. Do you think I'm the reincarnation of the King of Hell?"

Wang Pangzi was pouring liquor into his mouth when he heard this, and he sputtered it out with a "pfft," laughing so hard he slapped the table.

At this moment, Xu Damao also wandered over and asked: "Yo, what are you two brothers chatting about to be laughing like this?"

Wang Pangzi pointed at He Yuzhu, gasping for air: "Damao, Master He says he's the reincarnation of the King of Hell. You tell me, isn't that a perfect description of him?"

Xu Damao nodded vigorously: "It really is! I learned my lesson going out with Zhuzi this time—one bomb goes off, and hundreds of lives are gone; even the King of Hell doesn't have that kind of efficiency."

Wang Pangzi quickly patted the back of his hand and lowered his voice: "What are you blabbering about! There are government people at the table, watch your mouth."

"They've had plenty to drink too! Their ears aren't sharp right now." Xu Damao chuckled and said: "Zhuzi, you two were whispering just now, were you talking about me and the flight attendant? Don't listen to Wang Pangzi's nonsense; that flight attendant really has taken a liking to me... she's so fresh and lovely, has a great figure, and speaks so sweetly."

He Yuzhu sipped his drink and said slowly: "I don't care about your affairs. But I'll say this first: if you get a divorce, the pharmaceutical factory shares cannot be transferred to outsiders."

Xu Damao nodded repeatedly, "Understood, understood! My wife only cares about money now; she's long since grown tired of this old face of mine. As long as the money is there, she wouldn't even call me once in a few weeks." After saying this, he started chuckling to himself.

He Yuzhu stayed in Pudong for a few more days, mainly because several officials in charge of real estate came directly to him.

Housing prices had been rising a bit too fiercely recently, and He Yuzhu had hoarded a lot of good land a few years ago when the real estate market was sluggish. The government's intention was very clear: they hoped he would develop more residential buildings and rental apartments to cool down the market.

He Yuzhu followed the trend, not only agreeing to their request in one breath but also voluntarily promising not to significantly raise the selling price of the Commodity Housing.

Having traveled through time, He Yuzhu knew the consequences of high housing prices better than anyone—when the common people's wallets are empty, the whole consumption sector stalls. Although he couldn't control the entire country's real estate direction, he would manage his own affairs well.

Once things were straightened out there, he wandered back to the Ninety-Five Courtyard in Si Jiu Cheng.

The courtyard was already filled with a festive atmosphere; in two days, it would be He Daqing's big birthday, and the old man had already declared that everyone who had ever lived in the courtyard must be invited back for a reunion dinner.

Hu Bayi and the others also returned with He Yuzhu, and upon seeing the situation, they immediately signed up for the preparation committee.

He Yuzhu had wanted to be the head of the preparation committee himself, but there were quite a few issues at the pharmaceutical factory, and he needed to go there personally to oversee things.

He had no choice but to dump the burden on Xu Damao. After all, Xu Damao had come out of this courtyard and knew everyone who had ever lived there, so handing this job to him could be considered putting his talents to good use.

The pharmaceutical factory's buildings stretched out in a row, and the machines in the workshops hummed; it now had the scale of a first-class domestic pharmaceutical factory.

In the General Manager's office, Fang Deng was worrying over the computer screen. When she looked up and saw He Yuzhu enter, her eyes lit up: "Dad! You're finally back! I'm so annoyed; several major international companies are suing us."

He Yuzhu smiled and pulled two exquisite jewelry boxes from his pocket, placing them on the table: "Take these, got them in Myanmar; one set for you, one for your mother Wang Xia."

Fang Deng opened them and saw that the jade bracelets were so lustrous they could drip oil; she clapped her hands in delight: "Thank you, Dad! I love jade. These are so beautiful! But... maybe Mom won't want them?"

He Yuzhu waved his hand: "Don't say they're from me; just say they're a gift of filial piety from you."

"Alright, I understand!" Fang Deng quickly put away the two jewelry boxes, the smile on her face not yet faded.

He Yuzhu leaned back on the sofa and asked about the serious business: "Tell me, who is suing us?"

Fang Deng stopped smiling and counted on her fingers: "Liyang Bio from the United States, Rosse Pharmaceutical Group from Germany, Astron Pharmaceuticals from the United Kingdom, Mollen Pharmaceuticals from Sweden, Baistai Group from France..."

When He Yuzhu heard this, he laughed dismissively: "Don't pay them any mind. Our formula has Spirit Spring Water added to it; the efficacy is completely different from theirs, and the ingredients aren't even the same. If they want to sue us domestically, we'll accompany them to the end. Besides, if we produce all these medicines, why would domestic hospitals need to import them?"

Fang Deng's eyes brightened, but she hesitated for a moment: "Dad, that's true, but many doctors still can't change their mindset; they always feel that imported, original-brand medicine is better than ours."

He Yuzhu laughed even more happily: "Once those pharmaceutical companies lose their lawsuits in our country, they will definitely impose sanctions and stop selling medicine to us. When that time comes, our spring will have arrived. India dares to produce generic drugs, why can't we? Besides, we've added good things into ours."

As Fang Deng listened, her expression gradually relaxed, her previous anxiety vanished, and she nodded heavily: "Dad, I understand."

He Yuzhu stood up and patted his pant legs: "Alright, don't worry anymore. Give He Mu a call; he must attend his grandfather's 90th birthday no matter what. If he doesn't come, then in the future..."

Fang Deng said with a smile: "How would he dare!"
