Chapter 131: Breaking Through Five Passes and Slaying Six Generals

~9 min read 1,613 words

Inside the Shen Residence, the fragrance of tea curled in the air. Liu Rusi and Shen Shichang sat facing each other. On the rosewood tea table sat a set of exquisite tea utensils. Shen Shichang, in a rare gesture, personally poured a cup of Longjing tea for Liu Rusi.

"Xiao Si, today Dai Laoban called personally. He is extremely dissatisfied with our work, one could even say disappointed. Bureau Chief Wang Xinheng in Shanghai was his trusted aide; now that he has died, Dai Laoban has ordered a thorough investigation."

"Let them investigate, what does that have to do with me?" Liu Rusi's tone was cold, as if this matter had nothing to do with her at all.

"Zhao Ying has been with you for several years after all. With her involved in this incident, it will be very difficult for you to clear your name!" Shen Shichang stared at her with eyes like torches.

"Then let them come and investigate! I think Dai Laoban can barely protect himself!" Liu Rusi retorted without showing any weakness, a cold sneer curling the corner of her mouth.

Shen Shichang sighed, set his teacup heavily on the table, stood up, and walked to the window. Looking at the small bamboo grove outside, he said faintly, "This is not the time to act on impulse. You must prepare early. If orders come from Nanjing, even I will not be able to protect you."

Liu Rusi thought to herself, this old thing wants to cut ties with me! He probably treated Mother the same way back then; he truly has no sense of responsibility. Outwardly, however, she remained composed, instead softening her posture and voice: "Father, what do you think I should do?"

Shen Shichang returned to his seat and said, "Since Zhao Ying is already gone, when the people from above arrive, just push everything that cannot be explained onto her!"

Upon hearing this, Liu Rusi immediately grew anxious. She stood up with a "swish," her skirt knocking over the teacup on the table. The emerald tea soup spread across the rosewood table: "The case this time is very clear. Zhao Ying's father was only a Deputy General Manager at Citibank. Bureau Chief Xiong and Bureau Chief Wang asked him to open a safe deposit box; it was his duty. Since their money is lost, shouldn't they be suing Citibank? Why vent their anger on a Deputy General Manager who has already resigned?"

"I have also heard some rumors about you, saying you have made quite a lot of money. Could it be that you really have nothing to do with this?" Shen Shichang asked, his gaze as sharp as a knife.

"Father, these are two different things! I earn money by my own ability; this has nothing to do with the Zhao family!" Liu Rusi argued.

"Reason is reason, but who talks about reason with you now? A higher official crushes those below; you haven't just learned this today. They are going to use their power to force the issue, so what will you do?"

"But they might not necessarily come out on top either! Didn't Bureau Chief Wang also meet his end?" Liu Rusi said coldly.

Hearing this, Shen Shichang sighed, shook his head, and said, "You young people, you just like to kill and fight! You treat Zhuzi like a killing machine; that is not good!"

Liu Rusi sneered, "Father, you don't need to worry too much. I heard some news that Bureau Chief Dai probably doesn't have much time left."

"Audacious! How dare you speak such nonsense!" Shen Shichang scolded, though a strange look flashed in his eyes. He, too, was hoping for that day! But who was Dai Laoban? How many people had tried to strike at him without success?

"This isn't something I'm just spreading blindly; it came from the Americans."

"Nonsense!" Shen Shichang rebuked, but his voice was clearly a few notches lower.

"Whether it's nonsense or not, just wait and see."

Meanwhile, on a rugged mountain road, He Yuzhu drove the truck, bumping along the way.

"Stop!" Su Qing, in the passenger seat, suddenly shouted.

He Yuzhu slowly brought the vehicle to a halt.

Su Qing led He Yuzhu a short distance forward, where a three-way intersection appeared.

Zhao Ying and Zhao Meiting followed as well.

Su Qing pointed to the two roads ahead and said, "This one leads to Jiangxi. To go to Hong Kong, you must take this road, and to return to Shanghai, you must take that road to Hangzhou."

He Yuzhu suddenly thought of a plan. He spoke up, "We cannot keep driving two vehicles; it not only wastes fuel, but the sedan's chassis is too low, and it cannot handle many of these roads. How about I drive the sedan toward the Jiangxi road? After driving a few dozen miles, I will drive the sedan off the mountain to create the illusion that we had an accident. Perhaps this can deceive them for a few days."

Zhao Ying worriedly said, "That is a good plan, but after you drive a few dozen miles, will you still be able to find us?"

Su Qing was also a bit worried, "Can you really catch up to us on your own two legs?"

He Yuzhu nodded, "Don't worry, I will definitely be fine."

After saying this, He Yuzhu threw a large package to Zhao Ying, "Inside are the uniforms and identification of Bald Party soldiers; they might be useful in an emergency."

Seeing that He Yuzhu's mind was made up, Zhao Ying said nothing more and urged, "Zhuzi, be careful, go quickly and return quickly!"

"Don't worry, I'll be fine!"

After Zhao Ying finished speaking, she drove the truck onto the road, while He Yuzhu drove the small sedan toward the road to Jiangxi.

The small sedan bumped along the mountain road. Sitting in it was truly uncomfortable; He Yuzhu felt like his backside was going to be shaken into eight pieces.

After driving less than twenty miles, the road began to descend. He Yuzhu took out his Telescope and looked down the mountain; about three miles away, there was a checkpoint.

He was now a bit worried for Zhao Ying; the road ahead had so many checkpoints, and the road back likely had just as many.

He Yuzhu did not stop; he floored the gas pedal. The small sedan roared and charged forward at high speed.

The people at the checkpoint saw the small sedan rushing toward them and were about to raise their guns to fire, but He Yuzhu was faster than them. While driving, he fired with his Box Cannon.

He Yuzhu shot and killed three men standing in the middle of the road.

He stopped the small sedan in front of the tent. The three men sleeping inside heard the gunfire and ran out with their guns, only to be quickly dealt with by He Yuzhu.

He quickly cleared the battlefield and was surprised to find a Czech Light Machine Gun inside the tent. He secretly rejoiced to himself—good heavens, if these people had mounted the machine gun at the intersection, he would likely have been turned into a sieve by now.

After clearing the battlefield, He Yuzhu continued forward. The next stretch of road was relatively smooth, and the small sedan moved much faster.

Before long, he spotted a small town.

Unfortunately, another checkpoint appeared ahead, and this time the formation was not small.

He Yuzhu looked through the Telescope and saw there were actually eight people. They had also built a Machine Gun bunker, with two more people hidden inside.

This time, he definitely could not drive through; he would have to ride a horse.

He Yuzhu changed into a Bald Party military uniform and released a horse from his space.

The horse was a bit listless when it first came out, but after a while, it regained its energy, snorted, and pawed the ground a few times.

He Yuzhu rode the horse quickly to the checkpoint and shouted, "Did a Buick sedan pass through here?"

A man who looked like a squad leader stepped forward and said, "Officer, none of us have closed our eyes; absolutely no sedan has passed through!"

He Yuzhu dismounted and asked, "Brother, do you have any food? I've been running for a day and a night without eating a thing; I'm so hungry my chest is sticking to my back."

The squad leader said, "We still have some leftovers. If you don't mind, come into the tent and have some."

He Yuzhu took out a pack of American Camel cigarettes and tossed it to the squad leader, saying, "Then thank you. Distribute these to the brothers; consider it a small token of my appreciation."

Seeing He Yuzhu's generosity, the squad leader shouted, "We've been here all night; everyone gets a pack of cigarettes!"

The machine gunner lying in the bunker and the people in the tent all walked out, gathering around the squad leader, each of them staring eagerly at the pack of cigarettes.

Seeing that the opportunity had arrived, He Yuzhu moved his mind and pulled all ten people into his space. The entire process was clean and efficient; this time, he had actually dealt with so many people without shedding a drop of blood.

He Yuzhu quickly cleared the battlefield, but just as he finished and lay down on a lounge chair to rest for a moment, the sound of a vehicle suddenly rang out from the distance.

He looked up and saw a truck slowly driving toward him.

He Yuzhu's heart sank—this was bad; these people were likely here to change shifts.
