Chapter 201: Responsibility

~9 min read 1,634 words

He Yuzhu looked back and saw a group of people surging out from the direction of the prison—over a hundred prison Police, some in vehicles and some running, were closing in from that direction.

He could have turned invisible to hide, turning this prisoner rescue into an inexplicable supernatural event.

But Jin Hai knew his plan; if the prisoners vanished into thin air, his own secret would inevitably be exposed.

While scouting the terrain earlier, He Yuzhu had noticed a prison drainage outlet in the upper reaches of this small river.

It would be better to simply sneak into the prison and cause a scene, letting the pursuers realize this was a meticulously planned operation; by the time they realized it, the people would already be gone!

Having made up his mind, He Yuzhu immediately dashed across the icy surface of the small river.

His speed, five times that of an ordinary person, allowed him to reach the drainage outlet in a few dozen seconds.

He bent down and crawled into the hole; a foul stench rushed toward him, choking him so that he hurriedly took a Gas Mask from his space and put it on.

The drainage channel was iced over, making it a bit slippery to walk, but it saved him from getting covered in filth.

On the ground, the two teams converged.

"Master Jin, what is going on here?" Regimental Commander Li took the cigarette Jin Hai handed him.

Jin Hai lit it for him: "I don't know either. At eight o'clock this morning, the Secret Service Bureau brought soldiers to take away eight high-risk prisoners, and not long after, explosions were heard. And look! You all arrived first."

"I was also preparing for a drill, and when I heard the explosions, I rushed over," Regimental Commander Li said, blowing smoke rings.

Regimental Commander Li glanced at the wrecked truck and said, "It looks like it was hit by a United States-made Bazooka Rocket; these people's equipment is stronger than my regiment's! Who on earth did this?"

Jin Hai shook his head.

At this moment, several escort soldiers who had fled saw the main force arrive and followed them back.

Regimental Commander Li frowned and asked: "Are you responsible for the escort? How many people attacked you?"

"I really didn't see clearly; they blew the truck into the sky with one shot, and we—we just ran. Oh right, they also had snipers!" the deserter replied with a mournful face.

"Someone who knows how to use a Rocket Launcher, plus snipers, at least a platoon, but where did they all go?"

Jin Hai knew in his heart that this was He Yuzhu's handiwork and couldn't help but secretly marvel at how daring the kid was.

"Could they have run away?" Jin Hai added to cover.

"A whole platoon of people with prisoners, how could they have escaped so quickly?" Regimental Commander Li was full of confusion.

Just then, Captain Sun of the Secret Service Bureau ran over, panting.

"Jin Hai! It must be that there is a mole in your prison! Only five members of the Action Team and you knew about this operation; even the Beiping Secret Service Bureau Chief didn't know the details!"

Jin Hai was furious: "Sun, you bastard, stop spouting nonsense here! What does what happens outside the prison have to do with me? Why don't you say it was your own people who leaked the news?"

Captain Sun sneered: "Just wait to be investigated!"

"You think I'm afraid of you?" Jin Hai looked at him viciously.

"Where are the people who attacked us?" Captain Sun asked.

"Who are you asking? You ran away, you bastard, and you still have the nerve to ask me?" Jin Hai retorted sarcastically.

"Gentlemen, I have a mission to attend to, so I must take my team and leave," Regimental Commander Li said, not wanting to participate in this fruitless war of words.

"What does this have to do with me? I'm leaving too!" Jin Hai turned and signaled his men.

Just at this moment, explosions rang out one after another from the direction of the prison, and raging flames soared into the sky.

"It's a trap! Hurry back to reinforce!" Jin Hai exclaimed.

The Police either got into vehicles or ran back.

Regimental Commander Li also realized the severity of the situation—if the prisoners escaped, he, as the Garrison responsible for assisting in the prison's defense, would also be hard-pressed to escape blame.

Three minutes ago, He Yuzhu had already reached the end of the drainage channel.

He pushed open the manhole cover and found himself at the back wall of the prison.

Except for the sentry on the watchtower, the surroundings were empty—evidently, Jin Hai had taken away all available manpower.

He took the opportunity to take Explosive from his space and placed them separately on the thick prison wall.

Afterward, he ran to the location of the prison cells to place more Explosive, and taking advantage of the sentry's distraction, he retreated back into the sewer and pressed the Remote Control Button.

Boom! Boom! Two earth-shattering roars sent bricks and stones flying, and even the sewer shook violently.

He Yuzhu stumbled and nearly fell, with loose dirt constantly falling from the ceiling.

He quickly returned the way he came and peeked at the scene of the incident from the exit; there were still over a dozen people moving the wreckage of the first vehicle and loading the bodies of their brothers onto the second vehicle.

He remembered the unexploded Explosive he had planted earlier, snuck to three hundred meters away under the cover of reeds, and pressed the detonator again.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Three loud bangs blew those Secret Service Bureau personnel to pieces.

Captain Sun's plan to accuse Jin Hai might never be realized.

Jin Hai and Regimental Commander Li heard the explosions at the prison site and were stunned with anger.

"Shiqi, go and see what exactly is going on," Jin Hai ordered.

Regimental Commander Li shook his head and said: "Master Jin, you are in quite a bit of trouble this time; the outer wall is blown down, and several prison cells were also collapsed by the explosions. Fortunately, the prisoners didn't run!"

"Who's to say? If you hadn't brought the Garrison over today, I wouldn't have been able to hold this prison!" Jin Hai flattered.

Regimental Commander Li was very satisfied upon hearing this and said: "That is how we will write our report!"

"Prison Warden, there has been another explosion at the crime scene!" Shiqi came to report.

Regimental Commander Li finally realized: the prisoners hadn't retreated at all at that time; they only escaped after we left!

"These people are too cunning, making us run back and forth! Where do you think they were hiding at the time?" Jin Hai asked.

"They must have dug a tunnel!" Regimental Commander Li said.

The group searched the vicinity and finally discovered that drainage outlet.

Jin Hai sighed: "These people have been planning this for a long time; even I, the Prison Warden, didn't know about this drainage outlet."

"The method is very similar to that explosion case at the end of '45," Regimental Commander Li said thoughtfully, "targeting that bunch from the Secret Service Bureau. However, let's not write this part when we report!"

"Good! It's a deal!" The two high-fived.

Inside the Siheyuan at 91 Luogu Lane, Wang Jiazhi paced anxiously.

She was worried about whether the seven comrades could be rescued, and also anxious about He Yuzhu's safety.

She picked up the teacup and took a sip, but it was so hot that she stuck out her tongue.

"Lao Zhou, why haven't you returned at this critical moment?" she muttered to herself in annoyance.

A knock sounded at the door.

Wang Jiazhi opened the door with two couriers, and seeing He Yuzhu's disguised face, her hanging heart finally settled.

He Yuzhu pointed at the seven wooden crates: "Miss, the goods you wanted have arrived."

Wang Jiazhi glared at him and said, "Aren't you going to come down and move the crates? Do you expect me to move them?"

He Yuzhu had no choice but to help move the seven crates into the courtyard, then drove straight to the Siheyuan at Xinjiekou Baihuashenchu.

Xu Damao was pacing at the entrance with his hands tucked into his sleeves, sniffing constantly from the cold.

"Who are you looking for?" Xu Damao did not recognize the disguised He Yuzhu.

"Mr. He sent me to deliver the goods."

After looking him over carefully, Xu Damao laughed and scolded: "Why did you dress yourself up like this, you brat?"

"It's a matter of life and death, can I afford not to be cautious?" He Yuzhu replied indifferently.

The two of them carried the crates into the house.

He Yuzhu opened a crate lid and saw Hu Yunbin, who was half-awake.

After confirming it was Siqiang, Xu Damao hurriedly pulled He Yuzhu outside.

"This operation was too difficult," He Yuzhu said deliberately. "The other side sent over thirty people, and we lost thirty-nine brothers. The original price won't do; my sister demands double, and she wants me to talk to your Siqiang face-to-face."

Hearing this, Xu Damao panicked even more, terrified that his Siqiang would discover he had embezzled seven thousand Big Ocean.

He thought quickly: "Your appearance isn't fierce enough, and your words lack intimidation. I need to scare my Siqiang by saying there are over a dozen bandits outside, and if he doesn't agree to the terms, they'll take his life. That will work."

He Yuzhu was stunned by this maneuver; he had only been complaining casually and hadn't expected to actually get more payment.

He waited outside the courtyard for five minutes before Xu Damao hurried out.
