Chapter 264: Escape from Desperation

~7 min read 1,347 words

Seeing the trucks getting closer and closer, He Yuzhu said to Hu Yunbin, "Brother Hu, let's split up and run! There are at least dozens of people in those two vehicles; we can't handle them!"

Hu Yunbin shook his head and said, "We really can't run anymore; we haven't slept for a day and a night."

Wang Laoqi, who was standing to the side, interjected, "Brother Hu, why don't we just hide in the woods and not come out? Maybe they're just passing through!"

Hu Yunbin raised his hand and slapped Wang Laoqi, scolding, "Don't you see the cars from the last group parked by the edge of the woods? Their corpses are nearby too. Even if they were idiots, they'd know what happened!"

Wang Laoqi scratched his head with a silly grin.

Zhao Si hurriedly pulled Hu Yunbin aside and lowered his voice to persuade him, "Brother Hu, I've noticed that kid He Yuzhu really likes jade. Why don't you give him some things and see? Maybe he can help us—I see no fear in his eyes at all; perhaps this kid has a way."

Hu Yunbin pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, "Very well! I'll go try."

Gritting his teeth, he took the jade from his pack, put it into a small bundle, walked over to He Yuzhu, and handed it to him: "Brother Zhuzi, I know you have skills. This is just a small token of my appreciation; I beg you to help us one more time."

He Yuzhu took the bundle and opened it, seeing at a glance that this was all of Hu Yunbin's jade. He smiled and said, "You're a man of loyalty, willing to take out your own things for the sake of the group. Just for that, I'll help you!"

"That's great! You've saved us this time; if you need anything in the future, just say the word. I, Hu Yunbin, will not refuse even if it costs me my life!" Hu Yunbin immediately patted his chest to show his commitment.

"No need to be so polite," He Yuzhu waved his hand, "In the future, when you go Doudao, just show me any good jade you find first—my sister likes these, and I'll give you a good price."

He Yuzhu knew that when he upgraded his system later, jade would be much more cost-effective than gold.

"That's no problem!" Hu Yunbin agreed immediately.

After saying this, He Yuzhu ran behind a dirt mound.

As soon as he left, Xu Damao sidled up to Hu Yunbin and muttered, "Siqiang, won't that kid just take your things and run?"

"Unlikely," Hu Yunbin shook his head, "I see that kid has a lot of 'Jianghu' spirit in how he speaks and acts, and he also has something he needs from me."

"He needs something from you? What could he possibly need?" Xu Damao asked with a look of surprise.

"You want to know? But I can't tell you yet!" Hu Yunbin deliberately kept him in suspense.

Zhao Yingzi, standing to the side, curled her lip and said, "Xu Damao, you always think the worst of others. If He Yuzhu hadn't stepped in, we would have been dead long ago, and would we still have our things? Why don't you understand that yet!"

"Him? He's someone with ties to the Communist Party! His father is Communist Party!" Xu Damao couldn't think of any other reason to disparage He Yuzhu for the moment, so he could only trot out this line.

"The Communist Party will make something of themselves sooner or later; this isn't a bad thing." Hu Yunbin spoke calmly, a single sentence that left Xu Damao speechless.

Before long, He Yuzhu came running back carrying a Bazooka rocket launcher.

Zhao Yingzi stared at the thick "big tube" and asked curiously, "Zhuzi, what is this thing called? What exactly is it used for?"

"This is called a Bazooka rocket launcher, made by the Americans, specifically for hitting tanks. But this thing is precious; a single rocket costs three hundred Big Ocean!" He Yuzhu said.

Xu Damao rolled his eyes on the side, not believing a word He Yuzhu said, and even thought Zhao Yingzi was foolish.

He Yuzhu continued, "This thing is good, but its range isn't far. Who among you is good at horsemanship? Someone needs to ride a horse to lure their trucks past this patch of woods."

Wang Laoqi immediately stepped forward and said, "I grew up on the grasslands; I'm quite good at riding. Let me go!"

He Yuzhu nodded, found a concealed position, loaded the Bazooka rocket launcher, connected the wires, and waited quietly for the enemy to take the bait.

Soon, Wang Laoqi rode a horse out of the woods.

He kept his body almost pressed against the horse's back, galloping forward, pretending to be a scout going to deliver a message.

The people in the cars took the bait as expected, firing several shots at him, but they missed. Seeing him running further and further away, they hurriedly stepped on the gas to chase after him.

Just as the cars were over two hundred meters from the woods, He Yuzhu slammed his finger onto the trigger.

"Sss—Boom!" A loud explosion erupted.

The rocket, trailing an orange-red flame, accurately struck the car.

The truck instantly turned into a fireball, flipping over in the air before crashing heavily to the ground.

Xu Damao and Zhao Yingzi were so frightened by the rocket's exhaust that they fell to the ground, staring dumbfounded at everything happening not far away.

"That's too powerful!" Zhao Yingzi exclaimed.

Xu Damao opened his mouth wide, looking at He Yuzhu in disbelief; this kid was simply a god of slaughter—a single rocket had killed a whole truckload of people.

He Yuzhu didn't pay any mind to their reactions; he nimbly reloaded, and just twenty seconds later, the second rocket was loaded.

But when he aimed, he realized that half the people in the second vehicle had already jumped out.

He Yuzhu aimed quickly and pulled the trigger.

"Boom!"

Another loud explosion, and the second truck was also blown into the air, tumbling.

The few people in the woods were stunned by the tragic scene, standing where they were, watching without moving.

After firing the rocket, He Yuzhu shouted, "Brother Hu, we can't let those people run; they'll go back and report this! Hurry and charge over to wipe them out!"

Prompted by him, Hu Yunbin, Cui Dazhi, and Zhao Si finally reacted, rushing out one after another to chase the fleeing enemies.

There were only six enemies who had escaped, and they had already been scared out of their wits by the explosion, thinking only of saving their lives.

At this moment, Wang Laoqi heard the commotion and quickly rode back, chasing the fleeing soldiers on horseback.

Before long, the few who had escaped were wiped out.

Hu Yunbin excitedly grasped He Yuzhu's hand and said, "Thank you, Brother Zhuzi! We've been extorted and bullied by the Bald Party soldiers all along the way; we've finally had our revenge this time. Thank you!"

Zhao Yingzi circled the rocket launcher, squatting in front of He Yuzhu, chattering away with endless questions, full of curiosity.

Xu Damao, however, hid by the edge of the woods, unwilling to get close to He Yuzhu. In his heart, he both hated He Yuzhu for stealing the spotlight and secretly felt lucky—if they hadn't met this kid, their group probably wouldn't have survived. But he comforted himself: he had money, and he would surely do better than He Yuzhu in the future.

He Yuzhu looked at the sky and said, "Brother Hu, we can't stay in this place for long; I have to return to Si Jiu Cheng. What are your plans for the next step?"

"I have an Apprentice in Jixian; we want to go there to hide. Once the world is peaceful, we'll return to Beiping," Hu Yunbin replied.

"That's fine too." After saying goodbye to everyone, He Yuzhu drove off to continue his journey to Beiping.
